On the RG Flow in the Two-Dimensional Coset Models

Abstract

We consider a RG flow in a general $\hat{su}(2)$ coset model perturbed by the least relevant field. The perturbing field as well as some particular fields of dimension close to one are constructed recursively in terms of lower level fields. Using this construction we obtain the structure constants and the four-point correlation functions in the leading order. This allows us to compute the mixing coefficients among the fields in the UV and the IR theory.

Reflection and transmission of conformal perturbation defects

Ilka Brunner A, Cornelius Schmidt-Colinet

Abstract We consider reflection and transmission of interfaces which implement renormalisation group flows between conformal fixed points in two-dimensions. Such an RG interface is constructed from the identity defect in the ultraviolet CFT by perturbing the theory on one side of the defect line. We compute reflection and transmission coefficients in perturbation theory to third order in the coupling constant and check our calculations against exact constructions of RG interfaces between coset models.

RG flow from ϕ 4 theory to the 2D Ising model

Nikhil Anand, Vincent X. Genest, Emanuel Katz +2 more

We study 1+1 dimensional ϕ 4 theory using the recently proposed method of conformal truncation. Starting in the UV CFT of free field theory, we construct a complete basis of states with definite conformal Casimir, $$ \mathcal{C} $$ . We use these states to express the Hamiltonian of the full interacting theory in lightcone quantization. After truncating to states with $$ \mathcal{C}\le {\mathcal{C}}_{\max } $$ , we numerically diagonalize the Hamiltonian at strong coupling and study the resulting IR dynamics. We compute non-perturbative spectral densities of several local operators, which are equivalent to real-time, infinite-volume correlation functions. These spectral densities, which include the Zamolodchikov C-function along the full RG flow, are calculable at any value of the coupling. Near criticality, our numerical results reproduce correlation functions in the 2D Ising model.

Renormalization group defects for boundary flows

Anatoly Konechny

Recently, Gaiotto (2012 arXiv:1201.0767) considered conformal defects which produce an expansion of infrared local fields in terms of the ultraviolet (UV) ones for a given renormalization group flow. In this paper, we propose that for a boundary RG flow in two dimensions there exist boundary condition changing fields (RG defect fields) linking the UV and the infrared (IR) conformal boundary conditions which carry similar information on the expansion of boundary fields at the fixed points. We propose an expression for a pairing between IR and UV operators in terms of a four-point function with two insertions of the RG defect fields. For the boundary flows in minimal models triggered by ψ13 perturbation, we make an explicit proposal for the RG defect fields. We check our conjecture by a number of calculations done for the example of (p, 2) → (p − 1, 1)⊕(p + 1, 1) flows.

Non-invertible symmetries and selection rules for RG flows of coset models

Valentín Benedetti, Paul Fendley, Javier M. Magán

We analyze superselection sectors, non-invertible symmetries and selection rules for RG flows triggered via perturbations of a UV two-dimensional conformal field theory (CFT$_2$). To this end we describe a method whose input is the local data, and whose output is the set of submodels of the modular invariant completions. We explain how this output set provides a classification of superselection sectors (DHR categories and Q-systems) and of topological defect lines, leading to a unified and potentially complete approach to selection rules for RG flows. This method is applied to scenarios in which the UV is a coset or a parafermion model. For these CFT$_2$ we explicitly find all submodels of the diagonal modular invariants. Our results gives selection rules that unify several known facts about such RG flows, while also allowing us to find new aspects.

Properties of RG interfaces for 2D boundary flows

Anatoly Konechny

Abstract We consider RG interfaces for boundary RG flows in two-dimensional QFTs. Such interfaces are particular boundary condition changing operators linking the UV and IR conformal boundary conditions. We refer to them as RG operators. In this paper we study their general properties putting forward a number of conjectures. We conjecture that an RG operator is always a conformal primary such that the OPE of this operator with its conjugate must contain the perturbing UV operator when taken in one order and the leading irrelevant operator (when it exists) along which the flow enters the IR fixed point, when taken in the other order. We support our conjectures by perturbative calculations for flows between nearby fixed points, by a non-perturbative variational method inspired by the variational method proposed by J. Cardy for massive RG flows, and by numerical results obtained using boundary TCSA. The variational method has a merit of its own as it can be used as a first approximation in charting the global structure of the space of boundary RG flows. We also discuss the role of the RG operators in the transport of states and local operators. Some of our considerations can be generalised to two-dimensional bulk flows, clarifying some conceptual issues related to the RG interface put forward by D. Gaiotto for bulk 𝜙1,3 flows.
