Abstract

Abstract We present protocols for the generation of high-dimensional entangled states of anharmonic oscillators by means of coherent manipulation of light-matter systems in the ultrastrong coupling regime. Our protocols consider a pair of ultrastrong coupled qubit-cavity systems, each coupled to an ancilla qubit, and combine classical pulses plus the selection rules imposed by the parity symmetry. We study the robustness of the entangling protocols under dissipative effects. This proposal may have applications within state-of-art circuit quantum electrodynamics.

Parity-Assisted Generation of Nonclassical States of Light in Circuit Quantum Electrodynamics

Cárdenas López, Francisco A., Guillermo Romero, Lamata Manuel, Lucas +2 more

We propose a method to generate nonclassical states of light in multimode microwave cavities. Our approach considers two-photon processes that take place in a system composed of N extended cavities and an ultrastrongly coupled light-matter system. Under specific resonance conditions, our method generates, in a deterministic manner, product states of uncorrelated photon pairs, Bell states, and W states in different modes on the extended cavities. Furthermore, the numerical simulations show that the generation scheme exhibits a collective effect which decreases the generation time in the same proportion as the number of extended cavity increases. Moreover, the entanglement encoded in the photonic states can be transferred towards ancillary two-level systems to generate genuine multipartite entanglement. Finally, we discuss the feasibility of our proposal in circuit quantum electrodynamics. This proposal could be of interest in the context of quantum random number generator, due to the quadratic scaling of the output state.

Multiphoton quantum Rabi oscillations in ultrastrong cavity QED

Luigi Garziano, Roberto Stassi, Vincenzo Macrí +3 more

When an atom is strongly coupled to a cavity, the two systems can exchange a single photon through a coherent Rabi oscillation. This process enables precise quantum-state engineering and manipulation of atoms and photons in a cavity, which play a central role in quantum information and measurement. Recently, a new regime of cavity QED was reached experimentally where the strength of the interaction between light and artificial atoms (qubits) becomes comparable to the atomic transition frequency or the resonance frequency of the cavity mode. Here we show that this regime can strongly modify the concept of vacuum Rabi oscillations, enabling multiphoton exchanges between the qubit and the resonator. We find that experimental state-of-the-art circuit-QED systems can undergo two- and three-photon vacuum Rabi oscillations. These anomalous Rabi oscillations can be exploited for the realization of efficient Fock-state sources of light and complex entangled states of qubits.

Entangling polaritons via dynamical Casimir effect in circuit quantum electrodynamics

Daniel Z. Rossatto, Simone Felicetti, Hodei Eneriz +3 more

We investigate theoretically how the dynamical Casimir effect can entangle quantum systems in different coupling regimes of circuit quantum electrodynamics, and show the robustness of such entanglement generation against dissipative effects, considering experimental parameters of current technology. We consider two qubit-resonator systems, which are coupled by a SQUID driven with an external magnetic field, and explore the entire range of coupling regimes between each qubit and its resonator. In this scheme, we derive a semianalytic explanation for the entanglement generation between both superconducting qubits when they are coupled to their resonators in the strong coupling regime. For the ultrastrong and deep strong coupling regimes, we design experimentally feasible theoretical protocols to generate maximally entangled polaritonic states.

Generation and Manipulation of Entanglement in Quantum Optical Systems

Dan E. Browne

In this thesis, several new procedures for the generation and manipulation of entangled states in quantum optical systems are introduced. Each is evaluated in terms of realistic models of the imperfect apparatus of any real laboratory implementation. The first half of the thesis considers entanglement generation in Cavity QED, introducing several proposals for the creation of maximally entangled two-qubit states. The second half of the thesis focuses on the manipulation of entangled states of light pulses. In particular, an entanglement distillation procedure for Gaussian states is introduced. This combines a Procrustean protocol for the generation of highly entangled non-Gaussian states, with a "Gaussification" procedure, which allows more highly entangled approximately Gaussian states to be distilled from a non-Gaussian supply.

Dynamic generation of multi-qubit entanglement in the ultrastrong-coupling regime

Xin Liu, Qinghong Liao, Guangyu Fang +1 more

Abstract We propose a dynamic evolution protocol for generating multi-qubit GHZ states in the ultrastrong-coupling regime of circuit QED. By varying the time length of sequences, the protocol works for any coupling strength g/ωr ≥ 0.25. The time for generating the GHZ states in our protocol can be in the subnanoseconds. By taking into account realistic parameters of circuit QED, the degeneracy of fidelity due to decoherence can be as low as 0.02%.
