Non-Local Meta-Conformal Invariance, Diffusion-Limited Erosion and the XXZ Chain

Abstract

Diffusion-limited erosion is a distinct universality class of fluctuating interfaces. Although its dynamical exponent z = 1 , none of the known variants of conformal invariance can act as its dynamical symmetry. In d = 1 spatial dimensions, its infinite-dimensional dynamic symmetry is constructed and shown to be isomorphic to the direct sum of three loop-Virasoro algebras. The infinitesimal generators are spatially non-local and use the Riesz-Feller fractional derivative. Co-variant two-time response functions are derived and reproduce the exact solution of diffusion-limited erosion. The relationship with the terrace-step-kind model of vicinal surfaces and the integrable XXZ chain are discussed.

Dynamic scaling and Family-Vicsek universality in SU ( N ) quantum spin chains

Cătălin Paşcu Moca, Balázs Dóra, Doru Sticlet +3 more

The Family-Vicsek scaling is a fundamental framework for understanding surface growth in non-equilibrium classical systems, providing a universal description of temporal surface roughness evolution. While universal scaling laws are well established in quantum systems, the applicability of Family-Vicsek scaling in quantum many-body dynamics remains largely unexplored. Motivated by this, we investigate the infinite-temperature dynamics of one-dimensional $SU(N)$ spin chains, focusing on the well-known $SU(2)$ XXZ model and the $SU(3)$ Izergin-Korepin model. We compute the quantum analogue of classical surface roughness using the second cumulant of spin fluctuations and demonstrate universal scaling with respect to time and subsystem size. By systematically breaking global $SU(N)$ symmetry and integrability, we identify distinct transport regimes characterized by the dynamical exponent $z$: (i) ballistic transport with $z=1$, (ii) superdiffusive transport with the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang exponent $z=3/2$, and (iii) diffusive transport with the Edwards-Wilkinson exponent $z=2$. Notably, breaking integrability always drives the system into the diffusive regime. Our results demonstrate that Family-Vicsek scaling extends beyond classical systems, holding universally across quantum many-body models with $SU(N)$ symmetry.

Non-Abelian symmetries of the half-infinite XXZ spin chain

Pascal Baseilhac, S. Belliard

The non-Abelian symmetries of the half-infinite XXZ spin chain for all possible types of integrable boundary conditions are classified. For each type of boundary conditions, an analog of the Chevalley-type presentation is given for the corresponding symmetry algebra. In particular, two new algebras arise that are, respectively, generated by the symmetry operators of the model with triangular and special Uq(gl2)-invariant integrable boundary conditions.

Conformal invariance in conditioned stochastic particle systems

Gunter Markus Schutz

Abstract We consider space-time correlations in generic one-dimensional stochastic interacting particle systems with short-range interactions that undergo a fluctuation with an atypically activity of particle jumps or reactions or spin flips. We briefly review the approach in the framework of the quantum Hamiltonian formalism and present examples where the dynamics during such large fluctuations is governed not by the typical stationary dynamics, but by ballistic universality classes with dynamical exponent z = 1 that are described unitary conformally invariant field theories with central charge c . For reaction–diffusion and spin flip dynamics we identify critical points (a) in the Ising universality class with c = 1 / 2 , and (b) in the universality class of the three-states Potts model with c = 4 / 5 . For the Ising universality class we obtain a universal scaling form for the generating function of cumulants of the jump activity. For repulsive driven diffusive systems with one conservation law the regime of an atypically high current or hopping activity is generically conformally invariant with central charge c = 1 .

The action of the Virasoro algebra in quantum spin chains. Part I. The non-rational case

Linnea Grans-Samuelsson, Jesper Lykke Jacobsen, Hubert Saleur

Abstract We investigate the action of discretized Virasoro generators, built out of generators of the lattice Temperley-Lieb algebra (“Koo-Saleur generators” [1]), in the critical XXZ quantum spin chain. We explore the structure of the continuum-limit Virasoro modules at generic central charge for the XXZ vertex model, paralleling [2] for the loop model. We find again indecomposable modules, but this time not logarithmic ones. The limit of the Temperley-Lieb modules Wj,1 for j ≠ 0 contains pairs of “conjugate states” with conformal weights (hr,s, hr,−s) and (hr,−s, hr,s) that give rise to dual structures: Verma or co-Verma modules. The limit of $$ {W}_{0,{\mathfrak{q}}^{\pm 2}} $$ W 0 , q ± 2 contains diagonal fields (hr,1, hr,1) and gives rise to either only Verma or only co-Verma modules, depending on the sign of the exponent in $$ {\mathfrak{q}}^{\pm 2} $$ q ± 2 . In order to obtain matrix elements of Koo-Saleur generators at large system size N we use Bethe ansatz and Quantum Inverse Scattering methods, computing the form factors for relevant combinations of three neighbouring spin operators. Relations between form factors ensure that the above duality exists already at the lattice level. We also study in which sense Koo-Saleur generators converge to Virasoro generators. We consider convergence in the weak sense, investigating whether the commutator of limits is the same as the limit of the commutator? We find that it coincides only up to the central term. As a side result we compute the ground-state expectation value of two neighbouring Temperley-Lieb generators in the XXZ spin chain.

Scaling limit of Q-functions for the Z r invariant inhomogeneous XXZ spin- 1 2 chain near free fermion point

Gleb A. Kotousov, Sergei L. Lukyanov, Daria A. Shabetnik

At the beginning of the 70’s, Baxter introduced a multiparametric generalization of the six-vertex model. This integrable system has been found to exhibit a remarkable variety of critical behaviors. The work is part of a series of papers devoted to their systematic study. We focus on the case when the lattice model possesses an additional Z r symmetry and consider the critical behavior near the so-called free fermion point. Among other things, discussed is the algebra of extended conformal symmetry underlying the universal behavior. The main result of the paper is the class of differential equations that describe the scaling limit of the solutions to the Bethe Ansatz equations. This is an instance of the correspondence between Ordinary Differential Equations and Integrable Quantum Field Theory (ODE/IQFT correspondence).
