Evaluation of variational quantum states entanglement on a quantum computer by the mean value of spin

Kh. P. Gnatenko

The geometric measure of entanglement of variational quantum states is studied on the basis of its relation with the mean value of spin. We examine n-qubit quantum states prepared by a variational circuit with a layer formed by the rotational gates and two-qubit controlled phase gates. The variational circuit is a generalization of that used for preparing quantum Generative Adversarial Network states. The entanglement of a qubit with other qubits in the variational quantum states is determined by the angles of rotational gates that act on the qubit and qubits entangled with it by controlled phase gates and also their parameters. In the case of one layer variational circuit, the states can be associated with graphs with vertices representing qubits and edges corresponding to two-qubit gates. The geometric measure of entanglement of a qubit with other qubits in the quantum graph state depends on the properties of the vertex that represents it in the graph, namely it depends on the vertex degree. The dependence of the geometric measure of entanglement of variational quantum states on their parameters is quantified on IBM's quantum computer.

Geometric measure of entanglement for pure states and mean value of spin

Andrzej Frydryszak, V. M. Tkachuk

We derive an explicit expression for geometric measure of entanglement for spin and other quantum system. A relation of entanglement in pure state with the mean value of spin is given, thus, at the experimental level the local measurement of spin may allow to find the value of entanglement. The obtained form of the measure is applied to the explicit characterization of bipartite entanglement for $n$-qubit systems in the Werner state, Dicke state, GHZ state and trigonometric states. In particular for Werner-like states the rule of sums is found and it is shown that deviations from the symmetricity of such states diminishes the amount of entanglement. For Dicke states the maximal value of bipartite entanglement is achieved when number of excitations is half of the total number of qubits in these states. For trigonometric states the bipartite entanglement is maximal and does not depend on the number of qubits. We also consider entanglement of discrete-continuous systems on the example of entanglement of spin with continuous variables of electron. The relation of entanglement with the mean value of spin is very useful for calculation of entanglement. With the help of this relation we find in explicit form the entanglement of the one spin with the rest in a spin chain during the evolution determined by the Ising Hamiltonian.

Electron Spin Correlations: Probabilistic Description and Geometric Representation

Ana Marı́a Cetto

The electron spin correlation is shown to be expressible in terms of a bona fide probability distribution function with an associated geometric representation. With this aim, an analysis is presented of the probabilistic features of the spin correlation within the quantum formalism, which helps clarify the concepts of contextuality and measurement dependence. The dependence of the spin correlation on conditional probabilities allows for a clear separation between system state and measurement context; the latter determines how the probability space should be partitioned in calculating the correlation. A probability distribution function ρ(ϕ) is then proposed, which reproduces the quantum correlation for a pair of single-particle spin projections and is amenable to a simple geometric representation that gives meaning to the variable ϕ. The same procedure is shown to be applicable to the bipartite system in the singlet spin state. This endows the spin correlation with a clear probabilistic meaning and leaves the door open for a possible physical picture of the electron spin, as discussed at the end of the paper.
