Abstract

We study low-energy excitations of one-dimensional Galilean-invariant models integrable by Bethe ansatz and characterized by nonsingular two-particle scattering phase shifts. We prove that the curvature of the excitation spectra is described by the recently proposed phenomenological expression for the effective mass. Our results apply to such models as the repulsive Lieb-Liniger model and the hyperbolic Calogero-Sutherland model.

Spectrum of Elementary Excitations in Galilean-Invariant Integrable Models

Aleksandra Petković, Zoran Ristivojević

The spectrum of elementary excitations in one-dimensional quantum liquids is generically linear at low momenta. It is characterized by the sound velocity that can be related to the ground-state energy. Here we study the spectrum at higher momenta in Galilean-invariant integrable models. Somewhat surprisingly, we show that the spectrum at arbitrary momentum is fully determined by the properties of the ground state. We find general exact relations for the coefficients of several terms in the expansion of the excitation energy at low momenta and arbitrary interaction and express them in terms of the Luttinger liquid parameter. We apply the obtained formulas to the Lieb-Liniger model and obtain several new results.

Exact Results for the Moments of the Rapidity Distribution in Galilean-Invariant Integrable Models

Zoran Ristivojević

We study a class of Galilean-invariant one-dimensional Bethe ansatz solvable models in the thermodynamic limit. Their rapidity distribution obeys an integral equation with a difference kernel over a finite interval, which does not admit a closed-form solution. We develop a general formalism enabling one to study the moments of the rapidity distribution, showing that they satisfy a difference-differential equation. The derived equation is explicitly analyzed in the case of the Lieb-Liniger model and the moments are analytically calculated. In addition, we obtained the exact information about the ground-state energy at weak repulsion. The obtained results directly enter a number of physically relevant quantities.

Bethe-ansatz study of the Bose-Fermi mixture

Soham Chandak, Aleksandra Petković, Zoran Ristivojević

We consider a one-dimensional mixture of bosons and spinless fermions with contact interactions. In this system, the elementary excitations at low energies are described by four linearly dispersing modes characterized by two excitation velocities. Here we study the velocities in a system with equal interaction strengths and equal masses of bosons and fermions. The resulting model is integrable and admits an exact Bethe-ansatz solution. We analyze it and analytically derive various exact results, which include the Drude weight matrix. We show that the excitation velocities can be calculated from the knowledge of the matrices of compressibility and the Drude weights, as their squares are the eigenvalues of the product of the two matrices. The elements of the Drude weight matrix obey certain sum rules as a consequence of Galilean invariance. Our results are consistent with the presence of a momentum-momentum coupling term between the two subsystems of bosons and fermions in the effective low-energy Hamiltonian. The analytical method developed in the present study can be extended to other models that possess a nested Bethe-ansatz structure.

Mobile impurities in integrable models

Andrew Campbell, Dimitri M. Gangardt

We use a mobile impurity or depleton model to study elementary excitations in one-dimensional integrable systems. For Lieb-Liniger and bosonic Yang-Gaudin models we express two phenomenological parameters characterising renormalised interactions of mobile impurities with superfluid background: the number of depleted particles, N N and the superfluid phase drop \pi J π J in terms of the corresponding Bethe Ansatz solution and demonstrate, in the leading order, the absence of two-phonon scattering resulting in vanishing rates of inelastic processes such as viscosity experienced by the mobile impurities.

Scattering particles in quantum spin chains

Laurens Vanderstraeten, Frank Verstraete, Jutho Haegeman

Using a variational ansatz based on matrix product states, the authors present a methodology for determine the elementary excitations and their low energy scattering matrices of general quasi-one-dimensional spin systems. From these scattering matrices, the authors map the system unto an effective integrable model and then employ the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz so as to determine thermodynamic properties of the spin system. As a demonstration of the method, the authors apply it to a Heisenberg spin ladder.

Lectures on Integrable Systems

Gleb Eduardovich Arutyunov

In these lectures we cover the basic concepts of integrability including elements of the geometric approach based on the hamiltonian reduction, the classical and quantum factorised scattering theory and the coordinate Bethe Ansatz. The main features of the formalism are demonstrated on the examples of the Lieb-Liniger delta-interaction model and multi-body systems of the Calogero-Moser-Sutherland type.
