Abstract

We apply the Matrix Product Ansatz to study the Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process on a ring with a generalized discrete-time dynamics depending on two hopping probabilities, $p$ and $\tilde{p}$. The model contains as special cases the TASEP with parallel update, when $\tilde{p} =0$, and with sequential backward-ordered update, when $\tilde{p} =p$. We construct a two-dimensional matrix-product representation and use it to obtain exact finite-size expressions for the partition function, the current of particles and the two-point correlation function. Our main new result is the derivation of the finite-size pair correlation function. Its behavior is analyzed in different regimes of effective attraction and repulsion between the particles, depending on whether $\tilde{p} >p$ or $\tilde{p} < p$. In particular, we explicitly obtain an analytic expression for the pair correlation function in the limit of irreversible aggregation $\tilde{p}\rightarrow 1$, when the stationary configurations contain just one cluster.

Matrix-product ansatz for the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with a generalized update on a ring

Boyka Aneva, J.G. Brankov

We apply the matrix-product ansatz to study the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process on a ring with a generalized discrete-time dynamics depending on two hopping probabilities, $p$ and $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}$. The model contains as special cases the TASEP with parallel update, when $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}=0$, and with sequential backward-ordered update, when $\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{p}=p$. We construct a quadratic algebra and its two-dimensional matrix-product representation to obtain exact finite-size expressions for the partition function, the current of particles, and the two-point correlation function. Determinant solution for the TASEP with particle-dependent hopping probabilities on a ring

Vahagn Poghosyan, V. B. Priezzhev

We consider the totally asymmetric exclusion process on a ring in discrete time with the backward-ordered sequential update and particle-dependent hopping probabilities. Using a combinatorial treatment of the Bethe ansatz, we derive the determinant expression for the non-stationary probability of transitions between particle configurations. In the continuous-time limit, we find a generalization of the recent result, obtained by A. Rákos and G.M. Schütz for infinite lattice, to the case of ring geometry.

Multi-species asymmetric exclusion process in ordered sequential update

M. Ebrahim Fouladvand, Farhad H Jafarpour

A multi-species generalization of the asymmetric simple exclusion process is studied with ordered sequential and sub-lattice parallel updating schemes. In this model, particles hop with their own specific probabilities to their rightmost empty site and fast particles overtake slow ones with a definite probability. Using the matrix product ansatz technique, we obtain the relevant algebra and study the uncorrelated stationary state of the model both for an open system and on a ring. A complete comparison between the physical results in these updates and those of random sequential introduced in Karimipour V 1999 A multi-species ASEP and its relation to traffic flow Phys. Rev. E 59 205 and Karimipour V 1998 A multi-species ASEP, steady state and correlation functions on a periodic lattice Preprint cond-mat/9809193, is made.

Recursive structures in the multispecies TASEP

Chikashi Arita, Arvind Ayyer, Kirone Mallick +1 more

We consider a multispecies generalization of the totally asymmetric simple exclusion process (TASEP) with the simple hopping rule: for the α and βth-class particles (α < β), the transition αβ → βα occurs with a rate independent from the values α and β. Ferrari and Martin (2007 Ann. Prob. 35 807) obtained the stationary state of this model thanks to a combinatorial algorithm, which was subsequently interpreted as a matrix product representation by Evans et al (2009 J. Stat. Phys. 135 217). This 'matrix ansatz' shows that the stationary state of the multispecies TASEP with N classes of particles ( N -TASEP) can be constructed algebraically by the action of an operator on the ( N − 1)-TASEP stationary state. Besides, Arita et al ( 2009 J. Phys. A. Math Theor. 45 345002 ) analyzed the spectral structure of the Markov matrix: they showed that the set of eigenvalues of the N -TASEP contains those of the ( N − 1)-TASEP and that the various spectral inclusions can be encoded in a hierarchical set-theoretic structure known as the Hasse diagram. Inspired by these works, we define nontrivial operators that allow us to construct eigenvectors of the N -TASEP by lifting the eigenvectors of the ( N − 1)-TASEP. This goal is achieved by generalizing the matrix product representation and the Ferrari–Martin algorithm. In particular, we show that the matrix ansatz is not only a convenient tool to write the stationary state but in fact intertwines Markov matrices of different values of N .

Phase diagram of generalized TASEP on an open chain: Liggett-like boundary conditions

Nadezhda Bunzarova, Nina Pesheva, Alexander M. Povolotsky

The totally asymmetric simple exclusion process with generalized update is a version of the discrete time totally asymmetric exclusion process with an additional inter-particle interaction that controls the degree of particle clustering. Though the model was shown to be integrable on the ring and on the infinite lattice, on the open chain it was studied mainly numerically, while no analytic results existed even for its phase diagram. In this paper we introduce new boundary conditions associated with the infinite translation invariant stationary states of the model, which allow us to obtain the exact phase diagram analytically. We discuss the phase diagram in detail and confirm the analytic predictions by extensive numerical simulations.

Partially asymmetric simple exclusion model in the presence of an impurity on a ring

Farhad H Jafarpour

We study a generalized two-species model on a ring. The original model (Mallick K 1996 J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 29 5375) describes ordinary particles hopping exclusively in one direction in the presence of an impurity. The impurity hops with a rate different from that of ordinary particles and can be overtaken by them. Here we let the ordinary particles also hop backward with rate q . Using the matrix product ansatz we obtain the relevant quadratic algebra. A finite-dimensional representation of this algebra enables us to compute the stationary bulk density of the ordinary particles, as well as the speed of impurity on a set of special surfaces of the parameter space. We will obtain the phase structure of this model in the accessible region and show how the phase structure of the original model is modified. In the infinite-volume limit this model presents a shock in one of its phases.
