Abstract

We present a quantum theory for a fully coupled hybrid optomechanical system where all mutual couplings between a two-level atom, a confined photon mode, and a mechanical oscillator mode are considered. In such a configuration, new quantum interference effects and correlations arise due to the interplay and competition between the different physical interactions. We present an analytical diagonalization of the related fully coupled Hamiltonian, showing the nature and energy spectra of the tripartite dressed excitations. We determine the driven-dissipative dynamics of such hybrid systems and study phonon blockade effects under resonant excitation. We also study the statistical properties of the photon emission obtained under incoherent pumping of the two-level atom, which is particularly relevant for experiments with solid-state two-level emitters.

Unconventional phonon blockade via atom-photon-phonon interaction in hybrid optomechanical systems

Mei Wang, Tai-Shuang Yin, Zhaoyu Sun +3 more

Phonon nonlinearities play an important role in hybrid quantum networks and on-chip quantum devices. We investigate the phonon statistics of a mechanical oscillator in hybrid systems composed of an atom and one or two standard optomechanical cavities. An efficiently enhanced atom-phonon interaction can be derived via a tripartite atom-photon-phonon interaction, where the atom-photon coupling depends on the mechanical displacement without practically changing a cavity frequency. This novel mechanism of optomechanical interactions, as predicted recently by Cotrufo et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett.118, 133603 (2017)10.1103/PhysRevLett.118.133603], is fundamentally different from standard ones. In the enhanced atom-phonon coupling, the strong phonon nonlinearity at a single-excitation level is obtained in the originally weak-coupling regime, which leads to the appearance of phonon blockade. Moreover, the optimal parameter regimes are presented both for the cases of one and two cavities. We compared phonon-number correlation functions of different orders for mechanical steady states generated in the one-cavity hybrid system, revealing the occurrence of phonon-induced tunneling and different types of phonon blockade. Our approach offers an alternative method to generate and control a single phonon in the quantum regime and could have potential applications in single-phonon quantum technologies.

Real-time emission spectrum of a hybrid atom-optomechanical cavity

Imran M. Mirza

We theoretically investigate the real-time emission spectrum of a two-level atom coupled to an optomechanical cavity (OMC). Using the quantum trajectory approach, we obtain the single-photon time-dependent spectrum in this hybrid system where the influences of a strong atom-cavity coupling and a strong optomechanical interaction are studied. We find that a dressed state picture can explain the spectra by predicting the exact peak locations, as well as the relative peak heights. In our analysis, we also include the effect of mechanical losses (under the weak mechanical damping limit) and single-photon loss through spontaneous emission from the two-level emitter.

Generation of the mechanical Schrödinger cat state in a hybrid atom-optomechanical system

Najmeh Etehadi Abari, M. H. Naderi

In this paper, we propose a new theoretical scheme for generating a macroscopic Schrödinger cat state of a mechanical oscillator in a hybrid optomechanical system where a beam of two-level atoms passes through the cavity. In the model under consideration, the cavity field couples to the macroscopic mirror through the optomechanical interaction while it couples to the atom through a generalized Jaynes–Cummings interaction that involves the cavity-mode structure. The motion of the mirror modifies the cavity-mode function and therefore modulates the atom-field interaction, leading to the three-mode atom-field-mirror coupling or, equivalently, polariton-mirror coupling in a dressed picture. This interaction induces a controllable anharmonicity in the energy spectrum of the mechanical oscillator, which provides the possibility of generating a superposition of two time-dependent coherent states of the mechanical oscillator just by performing a conditional measurement on the internal states of the atoms exiting the optomechanical cavity. We also investigate the tripartite atom-field-mirror entanglement, which is controllable by adjusting the parameters of the system. In addition, we explore the effects of the mechanical dissipation and thermal noise on the tripartite quantum correlation in the system as well as the generated mechanical superposition state.

Unconventional photon blockade in a hybrid optomechanical system with an embedded spin-triplet

Yao Dong, Wang, Jing-jing, Guofeng Zhang

The research article studies the unconventional photon blockade effect in a hybrid optomechanical system with an embedded spin-triplet state. The interaction between the optomechanical system and the spin state generates new transition paths for the destructive quantum interference of the two-photon excitation state. By analytically solving the Schrodinger equation and numerically simulating the master equation, it can be found that the modulated mechanical dissipation is essential for achieving the strong photon blockade in our system. Unlike the conventional cavity optomechanical system, the second-order correlation function g(2)(0) =0 can be obtained with the weak single-photon optomechanical coupling. By adjusting the system parameters, the strong photon blockade and the single-photon resonance can coincide, which indicates the hybrid system has the potential to be a high-quality and efficient single-photon source. Finally, the influence of the thermal noise on photon blockade is investigated. The results show that the second-order correlation function is more robust for the weaker phonon-spin coupling.

Generating macroscopic quantum superposition and a phonon laser in a hybrid optomechanical system

Zhen Yang, Shi‐Lei Chao, Ling Zhou

The generation of a superposition state of a single-mode or two-mode coherent state is always an attractive topic. We propose schemes to generate the Schrödinger cat state and entangled coherent state of a mechanical oscillator in a hybrid optomechanical system. By introducing time-dependent coupling between the atom and photon, an effective Hamiltonian is deduced, where a tripartite interaction with time-dependent coupling is achieved. The effect of relatively high free energy can be cancelled so that we can obtain a relatively large average phonon number. Including dissipation, we derive an analytic solution of the system and further discuss the decoherence and disentanglement. In addition, a steady phonon laser can be reached.
