Abstract

We investigate the static and dynamical patterns of entanglement in an anisotropic $XY$ model with an alternating transverse magnetic field, which is equivalent to a two-component one-dimensional Fermi gas on a lattice, a system realizable with current technology. Apart from the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases, the model possesses a dimer phase which is not present in the transverse $XY$ model. At zero temperature, we find that the first derivative of bipartite entanglement can detect all the three phases. We analytically show that the model has a ``factorization line'' on the plane of system parameters, in which the zero-temperature state is separable. Along with investigating the effect of temperature on entanglement in a phase plane, we also report a nonmonotonic behavior of entanglement with respect to temperature in the antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases, which is surprisingly absent in the dimer phase. Since the time dynamics of entanglement in a realizable physical system plays an important role in quantum information processing tasks, the evolutions of entanglement at small as well as large time are examined. Consideration of large-time behavior of entanglement helps us to prove that in this model, entanglement is always ergodic. We observe that other quantum correlation measures can qualitatively show similar features in zero and finite temperatures. However, unlike nearest-neighbor entanglement, the nearest-neighbor information-theoretic measures can be both ergodic as well as nonergodic, depending on the system parameters.

Phase boundaries in an alternating-field quantum XY model with Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction: Sustainable entanglement in dynamics

Saptarshi Roy, Titas Chanda, Tamoghna Das +3 more

We report all phases and corresponding critical lines of the quantum anisotropic transverse XY model with uniform and alternating transverse magnetic fields (ATXY) in the presence of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction by using appropriately chosen order parameters. We prove that when DM interaction is weaker than the anisotropy parameter, it has no effect at all on the zero-temperature states of the XY model with uniform transverse magnetic field (UXY), which is not the case for the ATXY model. However, when DM interaction is stronger than the anisotropy parameter, we show the appearance of a new gapless chiral phase---in the XY model with uniform as well as alternating field. We further observe that first derivatives of nearest neighbor two-site entanglement with respect to magnetic fields can detect all the critical lines present in the system. We also find that the factorization surface at zero temperature present in this model without DM interaction becomes a volume on the introduction of the latter. Moreover, DM interaction turns out to be good to generate bipartite entanglement sustainable at large times, leading to a proof of ergodic nature of bipartite entanglement in this system.

Spin dynamics in the XY model

Rong-Chun Ge, Chuan‐Feng Li, Guang‐Can Guo

We study the evolution of entanglement, quantum correlation and classical correlation for the one dimensional XY model in external transverse magnetic field. The system is initialized in the full polarized state along the z axis, after annealing, different sites will become entangled. We study the three kinds of correlation for both the nearest and the next-nearest neighbor sites. We find that for large anisotropy parameter the quantum phase transition can be indicated by the dynamics of classical correlation between the nearest neighbor sites. We find that the dynamics of entanglement for both the nearest and next-nearest neighbor sites show significantly different behaviors with different values of magnetic field. We also find that the evolution of quantum correlation and classical correlation of the nearest neighbor sites are obviously different from those of the next-nearest neighbor sites.

Survival of time-evolved quantum correlations depending on whether quenching is across a critical point in an XY spin chain

Utkarsh Mishra, Debraj Rakshit, R. Prabhu

The time dynamics of quantum correlations in the quantum transverse anisotropic $XY$ spin chain of infinite length is studied at zero and finite temperatures. The evolution occurs due to the instantaneous quenching of the coupling constant between the nearest-neighbor spins of the model, which is performed either within the same phase or across the quantum phase-transition point connecting the order-disorder phases of the model. We characterize the time-evolved quantum correlations, viz., entanglement and quantum discord, which exhibit varying behavior depending on the initial state and the quenching scheme. We show that the system is endowed with enhanced nearest-neighbor bipartite quantum correlations compared to that of the initial state, when quenched from the ordered to the deep disordered phase. However, nearest-neighbor quantum correlations are almost washed out when the system is quenched from the disordered to the ordered phase with the initial state being at the zero temperature. We also identify the condition for the occurrence of enhanced bipartite correlations when the system is quenched within the same phase. Moreover, we investigate the bipartite quantum correlations when the initial state is a thermal equilibrium state with finite temperature, which reveals the effects of thermal fluctuation on the phenomena observed at zero temperature. Finally, an analogous analysis is carried out for zero-temperature next-nearest-neighbor quantum correlations.

Magnetic quantum correlations in the one-dimensional transverse-field XXZ model

Salimeh Mahdavifar, S. Mahdavifar, Rouhollah Jafari

One-dimensional spin-$\frac{1}{2}$ systems are well-known candidates to study the quantum correlations between particles. In condensed matter physics, studies often are restricted to first-neighbor particles. In this work, we consider the one-dimensional $XXZ$ model in a transverse magnetic field (TF) which is not integrable except at specific points. Analytical expressions for quantum correlations (entanglement and quantum discord) between spin pairs at any distance are obtained for both zero and finite temperature by using the analytical approach proposed by Caux et al. [Phys. Rev. B 68, 134431 (2003)]. We compare the efficiency of the quantum discord (QD) with respect to the entanglement in the detection of critical points as the neighboring spin pairs go farther than the next-nearest neighbors. In the absence of the TF and at zero temperature, we show that the QD for spin pairs farther than the second neighbors is able to capture the critical points while the pairwise entanglement is absent. In contrast with the pairwise entanglement, two-site QD is effectively long range in the critical regimes where it decays algebraically with the distance between pairs. We also show that the thermal QD between neighbor spins possesses strong distinctive behavior at the critical point that can be seen at finite temperature and, therefore, spotlights the critical point while the entanglement fails in this task.

Tuning interaction strength leads to an ergodic-nonergodic transition of quantum correlations in the anisotropic Heisenberg spin model

Utkarsh Mishra, R. Prabhu, Aditi Sen +1 more

We investigate the time dynamics of quantum correlations of the anisotropic Heisenberg model in a time-dependent magnetic field in one-dimensional, ladder, and two-dimensional lattices. We find that quantum correlation measures in the entanglement-separability paradigm are ergodic in these systems irrespective of system parameters. However, information-theoretic quantum correlation measures can also be nonergodic and exhibit a transition from nonergodic to ergodic behavior with the change of interaction strength in the direction of the magnetic field. We also observe that the transition point changes drastically as we go from one-dimensional and ladder lattices to the two-dimensional one.

Predicting Critical Phases from Entanglement Dynamics in XXZ Alternating Chain

Keshav Das Agarwal, Leela Ganesh Chandra Lakkaraju, Aditi Sen De

The quantum XXZ spin model with alternating bond strengths under magnetic field has a rich equilibrium phase diagram which includes Haldane, Luttinger liquid, singlet, and paramagnetic phases. We show that the nearest neighbor bipartite and multipartite entanglement can detect quantum critical lines and phases in this model. We determine a region in parameter space in which the dynamical states, starting from the ground state of the Haldane (dimer) phase can create highly multipartite entangled states for any time period, thereby establishing it as a potential candidate for the implementation of quantum information tasks. We also exhibit that if the initial and evolved states are in two different phases, the nonanalytic behavior of multipartite entanglement and the rate function based on Loschmidt echo can signal quantum phase transition happened at zero temperature. In a similar spirit, we report that from the product state, the patterns of block entanglement entropy of the evolved state with time can also infer the phase transition at equilibrium.
