Abstract

We show how the Weyl quantum walk derived from principles in D'Ariano & Perinotti (D'Ariano & Perinotti 2014Phys. Rev. A90, 062106. (doi:10.1103/PhysRevA.90.062106)), enjoying a nonlinear Lorentz symmetry of dynamics, allows one to introduce Hopf algebras for position and momentum of the emerging particle. We focus on two special models of Hopf algebras-the usual Poincaré and theκ-Poincaré algebras.

Symmetries of the Dirac quantum walk and emergence of the de Sitter group

Luca Apadula, Alessandro Bisio, Giacomo Mauro D’Ariano +1 more

A quantum walk describes the discrete unitary evolution of a quantum particle on a discrete graph. Some quantum walks, referred to as the Weyl and Dirac walks, provide a description of the free evolution of relativistic quantum fields in the small wave-vector regime. The clash between the intrinsic discreteness of quantum walks and the continuous symmetries of special relativity is resolved by giving a definition of change of inertial frame in terms of a change of values of the constants of motion, which leaves the walk operator unchanged. Starting from the family of 1 + 1 dimensional Dirac walks with all possible values of the mass parameter, we introduce a unique walk encompassing the latter as an extra degree of freedom, and we derive its group of changes of inertial frames. This symmetry group contains a non-linear realization of SO+(2,1)⋉R3; since one of the two space-like dimensions does not correspond to an actual spatial degree of freedom but rather the mass, we interpret it as a 2 + 1 dimensional de Sitter group. This group also contains a non-linear realization of the proper orthochronous Poincaré group SO+(1,1)⋉R2 in 1 + 1 dimension, as the ones considered within the framework of doubly special relativity, which recovers the usual relativistic symmetry in the limit of small wave-vectors and masses. Surprisingly, for the Dirac walk with a fixed value of the mass parameter, the group of allowed changes of reference frame does not have a consistent interpretation in the limit of small wave-vectors.

Quantum Evolution of Hopf Algebra Hamiltonians

Michele Arzano, Antonio Del Prete, Domenico Frattulillo

In recent years, growing attention has been devoted to the possibility that theories with deformed symmetries, associated with certain models of non-commutative spacetime, may encode a fundamental form of decoherence. This effect should be described by a Lindblad-like evolution governed by the non-trivial Hopf algebra structure of the time-evolution generators. In this work we provide a detailed analysis of such possibility for similar Hopf algebra deformations of the Hamiltonian of a qubit. Starting from a critical examination of the very definition of time evolution through the generalized adjoint action, we explore whether a coherent and physically viable framework can be established. In particular, our analysis shows that a more general combination of adjoint actions always guarantees a von Neumann dynamics and, also in the case of deformed spacetime symmetries considered in the literature, a physically viable Lindblad evolution cannot be established.

Quantum Diffusions and Appell Systems

Demosthenes Ellinas

Within the algebraic framework of Hopf algebras, random walks and associated diffusion equations (master equations) are constructed and studied for two basic operator algebras of Quantum Mechanics i.e the Heisenberg-Weyl algebra (hw) and its q-deformed version hw_q. This is done by means of functionals determined by the associated coherent state density operators. The ensuing master equations admit solutions given by hw and hw_q-valued Appell systems.

Angularly Deformed Special Relativity and its Results for Quantum Mechanics

Łukasz Andrzej Glinka

In this paper, the deformed Special Relativity, which leads to an essentially new theoretical context of quantum mechanics, is presented. The formulation of the theory arises from a straightforward analogy with the Special Relativity, but its foundations are laid through the hypothesis on breakdown of the velocity-momentum parallelism which affects onto the Einstein equivalence principle between mass and energy of a relativistic particle. Furthermore, the derivation is based on the technique of an eikonal equation whose well-confirmed physical role lays the foundations of both optics and quantum mechanics. As a result, we receive the angular deformation of Special Relativity which clearly depicts the new deformation-based theoretical foundations of physics, and, moreover, offers both constructive and consistent phenomenological discussion of the theoretical issues such like imaginary mass and formal superluminal motion predicted in Special Relativity for this case. In the context of the relativistic theory, presence of deformation does not break the Poincaré invariance, in particular the Lorentz symmetry, and provides essential modifications of both bosons described through the Klein-Gordon equation and fermions satisfying the Dirac equation. On the other hand, on the level of discussion of quantum theory, there arises the concept of emergent deformed space-time, wherein the presence of angular deformation elucidates a certain new insight into the nature of spin, as well as both the Heisenberg uncertainty principle and the Schrödinger wave equation.

A unified representation of the q-oscillator and the q-plane

T. Rador

Using deformations inspired by relativistic considerations and phase space symmetry, we deform the position and momentum operators in one dimension. The resulting algebra is shown to yield the q-oscillator algebra in one limiting case and the q-plane commutation relation in another.

New Dynamical Group for the Relativistic Quantum Mechanics of Elementary Particles

J. J. Aghassi, P. Román, Ruggero María Santilli

Nonrelativistic Galilean quantum mechanics and the standard transition to relativistic Poincar\'e quantum mechanics is analyzed in terms of group theory. Special emphasis is given to the discussion of the relation between dynamics and geometry. Certain unsatisfactory features are pointed out and a new relativistic group ${\mathcal{G}}_{5}$ is suggested as the symmetry group of dynamics. ${\mathcal{G}}_{5}$ contains both the nonrelativistic Galilei group and the Poincar\'e group as subgroups, and it is a group extension of the restricted Lorentz group. For use in relativistic quantum mechanics, the central extension of ${\mathcal{G}}_{5}$ by a phase group must be employed. The Lie algebra of this relativistic quantum-mechanical Galilei group ${\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{\mathcal{G}}}_{5}$ contains an acceptable covariant space-time position operator and a nontrivial relativistic mass operator. The latter also serves to describe dynamical development. The irreducible unitary projective representations of ${\stackrel{\ifmmode \tilde{}\else \~{}\fi{}}{\mathcal{G}}}_{5}$ correspond to infinite towers of states with increasing spin.
