Abstract

Abstract The nineteen-vertex model of Fateev and Zamolodchikov on a periodic lattice with an anti-diagonal twist is investigated. Its inhomogeneous transfer matrix is shown to have a simple eigenvalue, with the corresponding eigenstate displaying intriguing combinatorial features. Similar results were previously found for the same model with a diagonal twist. The eigenstate for the anti-diagonal twist is explicitly constructed using the quantum separation of variables technique. A number of sum rules and special components are computed and expressed in terms of Kuperberg’s determinants for partition functions of the inhomogeneous six-vertex model. The computations of some components of the special eigenstate for the diagonal twist are also presented. In the homogeneous limit, the special eigenstates become eigenvectors of the Hamiltonians of the integrable spin-one XXZ chain with twisted boundary conditions. Their sum rules and special components for both twists are expressed in terms of generating functions arising in the weighted enumeration of various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices (ASMs). These include half-turn symmetric ASMs, quarter-turn symmetric ASMs, vertically symmetric ASMs, vertically and horizontally perverse ASMs and double U-turn ASMs. As side results, new determinant and pfaffian formulas for the weighted enumeration of various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices are obtained.

The nineteen-vertex model and alternating sign matrices

Christian Hagendorf

It is shown that the transfer matrix of the inhomogeneous nineteen-vertex model with certain diagonal twisted boundary conditions possesses a simple eigenvalue. This is achieved through the identification of a simple and completely explicit solution of its Bethe equations. The corresponding eigenvector is computed by means of the algebraic Bethe ansatz and both a simple component and its square norm are expressed in terms of the Izergin–Korepin determinant. In the homogeneous limit, the vector coincides with a supersymmetry singlet of the twisted spin-one XXZ chain. It is shown that in a natural polynomial normalisation scheme its square norm and the simple component coincide with generating functions for weighted enumeration of alternating sign matrices.

The eight-vertex model with quasi-periodic boundary conditions

Giuliano Niccoli, V. Terras

Abstract We study the inhomogeneous eight-vertex model (or equivalently the XYZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain) with all kinds of integrable quasi-periodic boundary conditions: periodic, -twisted, -twisted or -twisted. We show that in all these cases but the periodic one with an even number of sites , the transfer matrix of the model is related, by the vertex-IRF transformation, to the transfer matrix of the dynamical six-vertex model with antiperiodic boundary conditions, which we have recently solved by means of Sklyanin’s separation of variables approach. We show moreover that, in all the twisted cases, the vertex-IRF transformation is bijective. This allows us to completely characterize, from our previous results on the antiperiodic dynamical six-vertex model, the twisted eight-vertex transfer matrix spectrum (proving that it is simple) and eigenstates. We also consider the periodic case for odd. In this case we can define two independent vertex-IRF transformations, both not bijective, and by using them we show that the eight-vertex transfer matrix spectrum is doubly degenerate, and that it can, as well as the corresponding eigenstates, also be completely characterized in terms of the spectrum and eigenstates of the dynamical six-vertex antiperiodic transfer matrix. In all these cases we can adapt to the eight-vertex case the reformulations of the dynamical six-vertex transfer matrix spectrum and eigenstates that had been obtained by T – Q functional equations, where the Q -functions are elliptic polynomials with twist-dependent quasi-periods. Such reformulations enable one to characterize the eight-vertex transfer matrix spectrum by the solutions of some Bethe-type equations, and to rewrite the corresponding eigenstates as the multiple action of some operators on a pseudo-vacuum state, in a similar way as in the algebraic Bethe ansatz framework.

The XXZ spin chain at Δ=−1/2: Bethe roots, symmetric functions, and determinants

Jan de Gier, Murray T. Batchelor, Bernard Nienhuis +1 more

A number of conjectures have been given recently concerning the connection between the antiferromagnetic XXZ spin chain at Δ=−1/2 and various symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices. Here we use the integrability of the XXZ chain to gain further insight into these developments. In doing so we obtain a number of new results using Baxter’s Q function for the XXZ chain for periodic, twisted and open boundary conditions. These include expressions for the elementary symmetric functions evaluated at the ground state solution of the Bethe roots. In this approach Schur functions play a central role and enable us to derive determinant expressions which appear in certain natural double products over the Bethe roots. When evaluated these give rise to the numbers counting different symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices.

Thesl2loop algebra symmetry of the twisted transfer matrix of the six-vertex model at roots of unity

Tetsuo Deguchi

We discuss a family of operators which commute or anti-commute with the twisted transfer matrix of the six-vertex model at q being roots of unity, q 2 N = 1. The operators commute with the Hamiltonian of the XXZ spin chain under the twisted boundary conditions, and they are also valid for the inhomogeneous case. For the case of the anti-periodic boundary conditions, we show explicitly that the operators generate the sl 2 loop algebra in the sector of the total spin operator S Z ≡ N /2(mod N ). The infinite-dimensional symmetry leads to exponentially-large spectral degeneracies, as shown for the periodic boundary conditions (Deguchi T, Fabricius K and McCoy B M 2001 J. Stat. Phys. 102 701). Furthermore, we derive explicitly the sl 2 loop algebra symmetry for the periodic XXZ spin chain with an odd number of sites in the sector S Z ≡ N /2(mod N ) when q is a primitive N th root of unity with N odd. Interestingly, in the case of N = 3, various conjectures of combinatorial formulae for the XXZ spin chain with odd sites have been given by Stroganov and other authors. We also note a connection to the spectral degeneracies of the eight-vertex model.

Domain-wall boundaries through non-diagonal twists in the six-vertex model

W. Galléas

Abstract In this work we elaborate on a previous result relating the partition function of the six-vertex model with domain-wall boundary conditions to eigenvalues of a transfer matrix. More precisely, we express the aforementioned partition function as a determinant of a matrix with entries that are eigenvalues of the transfer matrix of the anti-periodic six-vertex model.

POLYNOMIAL SOLUTIONS OF qKZ EQUATION AND GROUND STATE OF XXZ SPIN CHAIN AT ∆ = −1/2

A. V. Razumov, Yu. G. Stroganov, Paul Zinn-Justin

Abstract. Integral formulae for polynomial solutions of the quantum Knizhnik– Zamolodchikov equations associated with the R-matrix of the six-vertex model are considered. It is proved that when the deformation parameter q is equal to e ±2πi/3 and the number of vertical lines of the lattice is odd, the solution under consideration is an eigenvector of the inhomogeneous transfer matrix of the six-vertex model. In the homogeneous limit it is a ground state eigenvector of the antiferromagnetic XXZ spin chain with the anisotropy parameter ∆ equal to −1/2 and odd number of sites. The obtained integral representations for the components of this eigenvector allow to prove some conjectures on its properties formulated earlier. A new conjecture relating the ground state components of XXZ spin chains and Temperley–Lieb loop models is formulated and proved. 1.
