Azimuthal entanglement and multichannel Schmidt-type decomposition of noncollinear biphotons

Abstract

Purely azimuthal entanglement is analyzed for noncollinear frequency-degenerate biphoton states. The degree of azimuthal entanglement is found to be very high, with the Schmidt parameter $K$ on the order of the ratio of the pump waist to its wavelength. A scheme is suggested for partial realization of this high entanglement resource in the form of a multichannel Schmidt-type decomposition.

Azimuthal entanglement and multimode schmidt decompositions for noncollinear biphotons

Mikhail Vladimirovich Fedorov

Noncollinear biphoton states are found to possess a very high degree of azimuthal entanglement with typical values of ~10 4 for Schmidt parameter K (the ratio of the pump wavelength to its waist). A scheme that provides conditions for Schmidt-type mode separation and multichannel Schmidt-type decomposition is proposed for the partial use of this enormous high-entanglement resource.

Schmidt decomposition for non-collinear biphoton angular wave functions

Mikhail Vladimirovich Fedorov

Schmidt modes of non-collinear biphoton angular wave functions are found analytically. The experimentally realizable procedure for their separation is described. Parameters of the Schmidt decomposition are used to evaluate the degree of the biphoton's angular entanglement.

The Schmidt modes of biphoton qutrits: Poincaré-sphere representation

Maria V. Chekhova, M V Fedorov

For a general-form polarization biphoton qutrit, physically corresponding to a pair of arbitrarily polarized photons in a single frequency and wavevector mode, we explicitly find polarization Schmidt modes. A simple method is suggested for factorizing the state vector and the explicit expressions for the factorizing photon creation operators are found. The degrees of entanglement and polarization of a qutrit are shown to depend directly on the commutation features of the factorizing operators. Clear graphic representations for the Stokes vectors of the qutrit state as a whole, its Schmidt modes and factorizing single-photon creation operators are given based on the Poincaré sphere. An experimental scheme is proposed for measuring the parameters of the Schmidt decomposition as well as for demonstrating the operational meaning of qutrit entanglement.

Radial Schmidt mode detector of entangled photons

Radhika Prasad, Nilakshi Senapati, Abhinandan Bhattacharjee +1 more

High-dimensional spatially entangled two-photon state generated by spontaneous parametric down-conversion process (SPDC) has become a promising resource for several quantum information science applications. For harnessing high-dimensional entanglement advantages, detection capability in the Schmidt basis is a necessity. Spatial entanglement has been explored in several modal bases, such as pixel, azimuthal, and radial modes. Among them, pixel and azimuthal entanglement have been widely utilized due to efficient access to their Schmidt modes, while radial-mode entanglement remains underexploited. This is because for radial coordinates, there is neither a Schmidt-decomposed form for the SPDC photons nor is there a technique for measuring high-dimensional radial Schmidt modes, which is a major roadblock in harnessing radial mode advantages. In this work, we first theoretically show that the azimuthal averaging of SPDC two-photon state yields a radial Schmidt-decomposed form under typical experimental situations. We then demonstrate an innovative approach for extracting the radial Schmidt modes and their spectrum by characterizing the density matrix in the radial basis of one of the SPDC photons. Finally, we report the first-ever measurement of radial Schmidt spectrum of upto 50 radial Schmidt modes with about 98\% fidelity.

We demonstrated high-dimensional time-frequency entanglement with a mode-locked biphoton frequency comb. Hong-Ou-Mandel interference and joint spectral intensity measurements are performed, and we estimated Hilbert space dimensionality of at least 3481 via Schmidt mode decompositions.
