Abstract

The concept of coherence is one of cornerstones in physics. The development of quantum information science has lead to renewed interest in properly approaching the coherence at the quantum level. Various measures could be proposed to quantify coherence of a quantum state with respect to the prescribed orthonormal basis. To be a proper measure of coherence, each candidate should enjoy certain properties. It seems that the monotonicity property plays a crucial role here. Indeed, there is known an intuitive measure of coherence that does not share this condition. We study coherence measures induced by quantum divergences of the Tsallis type. Basic properties of the considered coherence quantifiers are derived. Tradeoff relations between coherence and mixedness are examined. The property of monotonicity under incoherent selective measurements has to be reformulated. The proposed formulation can naturally be treated as a parametric extension of its standard form. Finally, two coherence measures quadratic in moduli of matrix elements are compared from the monotonicity viewpoint.

Quantum coherence measures based on the Tsallis relative entropies

Indeed, there is known an intuitive measure of coherence that does not share this condition. We study coherence measures induced by quantum divergences of the Tsallis type. It is proved that considered measures of coherence satisfy all the required properties. The only point is that monotonicity under incoherent selective measurements has to be reformulated. The proposed formulation can naturally be treated as a parametric extension of its standard form. This extension is reduced to the standard form when the standard relative entropy is dealt. Finally, two coherence measures quadratic in moduli of matrix elements are compared from the monotonicity viewpoint.

Coherence measure in terms of the Tsallis relative α entropy

Haiqing Zhao, Chang‐shui Yu

Coherence is the most fundamental quantum feature of the nonclassical systems. The understanding of coherence within the resource theory has been attracting increasing interest among which the quantification of coherence is an essential ingredient. A satisfactory measure should meet certain standard criteria. It seems that the most crucial criterion should be the strong monotonicity, that is, average coherence doesn't increase under the (sub-selective) incoherent operations. Recently, the Tsallis relative α entropy has been tried to quantify the coherence. But it was shown to violate the strong monotonicity, even though it can unambiguously distinguish the coherent and the incoherent states with the monotonicity. Here we establish a family of coherence quantifiers which are closely related to the Tsallis relative α entropy. It proves that this family of quantifiers satisfy all the standard criteria and particularly cover several typical coherence measures.

Abstract The resource theories of quantum coherence attract a lot of attention in recent years. Especially, the monotonicity property plays a crucial role here. In this paper we investigate the monotonicity property for the coherence measures induced by the Rényi α-relative entropy, which present in [Phys. Rev. A 94 (2016) 052336]. We show that the Rényi α-relative entropy of coherence does not in general satisfy the monotonicity requirement under the subselection of measurements condition and it also does not satisfy the extension of monotonicity requirement, which presents in [Phys. Rev. A 93 (2016) 032136]. Due to the Rényi α-relative entropy of coherence can act as a coherence monotone quantifier, we examine the trade-off relations between coherence and mixedness. Finally, some properties for the single qubit of Rényi 2-relative entropy of coherence are derived .

Uncertainty relations for coherence quantifiers based on the Tsallis relative 1/2-entropies

Alexey E. Rastegin

Abstract In quantum information science, systems with incomplete information are typically dealt with. To characterize quantumness from different viewpoints, several kinds of non-classical correlations should be described quantitatively. The concept of coherence within purely quantum framework is currently the subject of active research. A certain attention is paid to coherence quantifiers averaged with respect to a set of quantum ensembles or special measurements. Mutually unbiased bases and symmetric informationally complete measurements are important examples. We present uncertainty relations for quantum-coherence quantifiers based on the Tsallis relative 1/2-entropies. Together with mutually unbiased bases, the paper also deals with a measurement built of the states of an equiangular tight frame. The derived inequalities are exemplified with mutually unbiased bases and symmetric informationally complete measurement in two dimensions.

Coherence quantifiers from the viewpoint of their decreases in the measurement process

Alexey E. Rastegin

Abstract Measurements can be considered as a genuine example of processes that crush quantum coherence. In the case of an observable with degeneracy, the formulations of Lüders and von Neumann are known. These pictures postulate the two different states of a system immediately following the act of measurement. Hence, they are associated with divers variants of coherence losses during the measurement. Recent studies have focused on several ways to characterize quantum coherence appropriately. One of the existing types of quantifier is based on quantum α -divergences of the Tsallis type. In this paper, we introduce coherence quantifiers associated with the Lüders picture of quantum measurements. The are shown to satisfy the same properties as coherence α -quantifiers related to some orthonormal basis. Further, we consider losses of quantum coherence during a generalized measurement. The proposed approach is exemplified with unambiguous state discrimination; extreme properties of the states to be discriminated are clearly shown.
