Abstract

We study the constructions of Dicke states of identical particles of spin-$1$, $3/2$ and $2$ in the number representation with given particle number $N$ and magnetic quantum number $M$. The complete bases and corresponding coefficients in the Dicke states are given, in terms of which the Dicke states are explicitly expressed in the number representation. As a byproduct, a rule of how to construct all the anti-symmetric states in these high spin systems is given. Finally, by employing the negativity as the entanglement measure, we explore the entanglement properties for spin-$1$ cases including certain pure states of two particles and many-particle Dicke states.

Quantum entanglement of identical particles

Yu Shi

We consider entanglement in a system with a fixed number of identical particles. Since any operation should be symmetrized over all the identical particles and there is the precondition that the spatial wave functions overlap, the meaning of identical-particle entanglement is fundamentally different from that of distinguishable particles. The identical-particle counterpart of the Schmidt basis is shown to be the single-particle basis in which the one-particle reduced density matrix is diagonal. But it does not play a special role in the issue of entanglement, which depends on the single-particle basis chosen. The nonfactorization due to (anti)symmetrization is naturally excluded by using the (anti)symmetrized basis or, equivalently, the particle number representation. The natural degrees of freedom in quantifying the identical-particle entanglement in a chosen single-particle basis are occupation numbers of different single-particle basis states. The entanglement between effectively distinguishable spins is shown to be a special case of the occupation-number entanglement.

Entanglement in the Dicke subspace

Aabhas Gulati, Ion Nechita, Clément Pellegrini

We provide a complete mathematical theory for the entanglement of mixtures of Dicke states. These quantum states form an important subclass of bosonic states arising in the study of indistinguishable particles. We introduce a tensor-based parametrization where the diagonal entries of these states are encoded as a symmetric tensor, enabling a direct translation between entanglement properties and well-studied convex cones of tensors. Our results bridge multipartite entanglement theory with semialgebraic geometry and the theory of completely positive and copositive tensors. This dictionary maps separability to completely positive tensors, the PPT property to moment tensors, entanglement witnesses to copositive tensors, and decomposable witnesses to sum of squares tensors. Using this framework, we construct explicit PPT entangled states in three or more qutrits, disproving a recent conjecture. We establish that PPT entanglement exists for all multipartite systems with local dimension d >= 3 and n >= 3 parties. We also show that, for mixtures of Dicke states, the PPT condition with respect to the most balanced bipartition implies all other PPT conditions. We further connect bosonic extendibility of mixtures of Dicke states to the duals of known hierarchies for non-negative polynomials, such as the ones by Reznick and Polya. We thus provide semidefinite programming relaxations for separability and entanglement testing in the Dicke subspace.

Characterizing the entanglement of symmetric many-particle spin- 1 2 systems

John K. Stockton, J. M. Geremia, Andrew C. Doherty +1 more

Analyzing the properties of entanglement in many-particle spin-1/2 systems is generally difficult because the system's Hilbert space grows exponentially with the number of constituent particles, N. Fortunately, it is still possible to investigate a many-particle entanglement when the state of the system possesses sufficient symmetry. In this paper, we present a practical method for efficiently computing various bipartite entanglement measures for states in the symmetric subspace and perform these calculations for $N\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{3}.$ By considering all possible bipartite splits, we construct a picture of the multiscale entanglement in large symmetric systems. In particular, we characterize dynamically generated spin-squeezed states by comparing them to known reference states (e.g., Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger and Dicke states), and families of states with near-maximal bipartite entropy. We quantify the trade-off between the degree of entanglement and its robustness to particle loss, emphasizing that substantial entanglement need not be fragile.

Entanglement witness via symmetric two-body correlations

Ernest Y.-Z. Tan, Dagomir Kaszlikowski, L. C. Kwek

We construct an entanglement witness for many-qubit systems, based on symmetric two-body correlations with two measurement settings. This witness is able to detect the entanglement of some Dicke states for any number of particles and such detection exhibits some robustness against white noise and thermal noise under the Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Hamiltonian. In addition, it detects the entanglement of spin-squeezed states, with a detection strength that approaches the maximal value for sufficiently large numbers of particles. As spin-squeezed states can be experimentally generated, the properties of the witness with respect to these states may be amenable to experimental investigation. We show that while the witness is unable to detect Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states, it is instead able to detect superpositions of Dicke states with GHZ states.

Generalized Weyl-Heisenberg Algebra, Qudit Systems and Entanglement Measure of Symmetric States via Spin Coherent States. Part II: The Perma-Concurrence Parameter

Mohammed Daoud A, M. Kibler

This paper deals with separable and entangled qudits | ψ d ⟩ (quantum states in dimension d) constructed from Dicke states made of N = d − 1 qubits. Such qudits present the property to be totally symmetric under the interchange of the N qubits. We discuss the notion of perma-concurrence P d for the qudit | ψ d ⟩ , introduced by the authors (Entropy 2018, 20, 292), as a parameter for characterizing the entanglement degree of | ψ d ⟩ . For d = 3 , the perma-concurrence P 3 constitutes an alternative to the concurrence C for symmetric two-qubit states. We give several expressions of P d (in terms of matrix permanent and in terms of unit vectors of R 3 pointing on the Bloch sphere) and precise the range of variation of P d (going from separable to maximally entangled states). Numerous examples are presented for P d . Special attention is devoted to states of W type and to maximally entangled states of Bell and Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger type.

Construction and Characterization of Symmetrical States for Multiqubit Systems

P. J. Lin‐Chung

A general method in constructing a complete set of wave functions for multipartite identical qubits is presented based on the irreducible representations of the permutation group and the nth rank tensors. Particular examples for n =2, 3, and 4 are derived and the entanglement behavior for each state is examined from several criteria. It is found that the states so constructed are all bound entangled states. For the case of even n, all the states are found to have maximum "n-tangle". The symmetry in spin space is found to increase the n-tangle in general. The "n-tangle" for n = 4 is found not always representing 4-way entanglement. It measures the degree of spin-space symmetry instead. A useful relationship in the classification between systems containing different number of qubits is given in terms of the Young's Tableaux based on our analysis.
