Abstract

This volume contains the proceedings of the 12th International Workshop on Quantum Physics and Logic (QPL 2015), which was held July 15-17, 2015 at Oxford University. The goal of this workshop series is to bring together researchers working on mathematical foundations of quantum physics, quantum computing, spatio-temporal causal structures, and related areas such as computational linguistics. Of particular interest are topics that use logical tools, ordered algebraic and category-theoretic structures, formal languages, semantical methods and other computer science methods for the study of physical behaviour in general.

Logic and Algebraic Structures in Quantum Computing

Jennifer Chubb, Eskandarian, Ali, Harizanov, Valentina S

Arising from a special session held at the 2010 North American Annual Meeting of the Association for Symbolic Logic, this volume is an international cross-disciplinary collaboration with contributions from leading experts exploring connections across their respective fields. Themes range from philosophical examination of the foundations of physics and quantum logic, to exploitations of the methods and structures of operator theory, category theory, and knot theory in an effort to gain insight into the fundamental questions in quantum theory and logic. The book will appeal to researchers and students working in related fields, including logicians, mathematicians, computer scientists, and physicists. A brief introduction provides essential background on quantum mechanics and category theory, which, together with a thematic selection of articles, may also serve as the basic material for a graduate course or seminar.

Quantum Physics and Nuclear Engineering

related areas, ordered algebraic, category-theoretic structures +1 more

The conference brings together researchers working on mathematical foundations of quantum physics, quantum computing, and related areas, with a focus on structural perspectives and the use of logical tools, ordered algebraic and category-theoretic structures, formal languages, semantically methods, and other computer science techniques applied to the study of physical behaviour in general. Work that applies structures and methods inspired by quantum theory to other fields (including computer science) is also welcome. With members from around the world focused on Quantum physics and Nuclear Engineering this is your best opportunity to reach the largest assemblage of participants from the universities, colleges, research centres, societies, institutions, labs, associations, communities and companies etc. We want to make a worldwide meet in which data between researchers from the different controls can be effectively traded. The explanation behind bringing the general population at the meetings together is to catalyse empowering trades and connections between experts in different fields, from physical science to engineering. It will make new interdisciplinary systems and permit members to trade know-how and data to accomplish speedier and better results.

Mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics: An advanced short course

Valter Moretti

This paper collects and extends the lectures I gave at the “XXIV International Fall Workshop on Geometry and Physics” held in Zaragoza (Spain) during September 2015. Within these lectures I review the formulation of Quantum Mechanics, and quantum theories in general, from a mathematically advanced viewpoint, essentially based on the orthomodular lattice of elementary propositions, discussing some fundamental ideas, mathematical tools and theorems also related to the representation of physical symmetries. The final step consists of an elementary introduction the so-called ([Formula: see text]-) algebraic formulation of quantum theories.

This volume represents the talks given at the Conference on Interactions between Representation Theory, Quantum Field Theory, Category Theory, Mathematical Physics, and Quantum Information Theory, held in September 2007 at the University of Texas at Tyler. The papers in this volume, written by top experts in the field, address physical aspects, mathematical aspects, and foundational issues of quantum computation. This volume will benefit researchers interested in advances in quantum computation and communication, as well as graduate students who wish to enter the field of quantum computation.
