A q-difference Baxter operator for the Ablowitz–Ladik chain

Abstract

We construct the Baxter operator and the corresponding Baxter equation for a quantum version of the Ablowitz–Ladik model. The result is achieved in two different ways: by using the well-known Bethe ansatz technique and by looking at the quantum analogue of the classical Bäcklund transformations. General results about integrable models governed by the same r -matrix algebra will be given. Baxter's equation comes out to be a q-difference equation involving both the trace and the quantum determinant of the monodromy matrix. The spectrality property of the classical Bäcklund transformations gives a trace formula representing the classical analogue of Baxter's equation. A q-integral representation of the Baxter operator is discussed.

From quantum Bäcklund transforms to topological quantum field theory

Christian Korff

Abstract We derive the quantum analogue of a Bäcklund transformation for the quantized Ablowitz–Ladik chain, a space discretization of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The quantization of the Ablowitz–Ladik chain leads to the q -boson model. Using a previous construction of Baxter’s Q -operator for this model by the author, a set of functional relations is obtained which matches the relations of a one-variable classical Bäcklund transform to all orders in . We construct also a second Q -operator and show that it is closely related to the inverse of the first. The multi-Bäcklund transforms generated from the Q -operator define the fusion matrices of a 2D TQFT and we derive a linear system for the solution to the quantum Bäcklund relations in terms of the TQFT fusion coefficients.

Quantum inverse problem for the Ablowitz-Ladik open chain

Asesh Roy Chowdhury, N Dasgupta

The integrable nonlinear discrete system of Ablowitz-Ladik (1975) is investigated from the viewpoint of the quantum inverse scattering transform with non-trivial boundary conditions at the two ends. A new type of quantum R-matrix is obtained, which has been used to set up the algebraic Bethe ansatz equations. The asymptotic R-matrices R +or- (as lambda , or mu +or- infinity ) are similar to the non-standard solution of the Yang-Baxter equation.

DISCRETE KAUP–NEWELL EQUATION, CANONICAL BÄCKLUND TRANSFORMATION AND BAXTER'S Q-OPERATOR

A. Ghose Choudhury, Asesh Roy Chowdhury

We consider the Bäcklund transformation (BT) for a discretized version of the integrable Kaup–Newell equation, obtained recently by Tsuchida through a generalization of the Ablowitz–Ladik equation. The canonical nature of the classical Bäcklund transformation is proved by determining a suitable generating function. The corresponding Q-operator is determined by means of a quantization procedure proposed by Sklyanin et al. The latter's connection with Baxter's t - Q relation is explored and a comparison with the corresponding relation for the Bethe eigenvalue is made by solving the quantum inverse problem.

Baxter Operator and Baxter Equation for q-Toda and Toda2 Chains

O. Babelon, Karol Kajetan Kozlowski, Vincent Pasquier

We construct the Baxter operator [Formula: see text] for the [Formula: see text]-Toda chain and the Toda2 chain (the Toda chain in the second Hamiltonian structure). Our construction builds on the relation between the Baxter operator and Bäcklund transformations that were unravelled in [13]. We construct a number of quantum intertwiners ensuring the commutativity of [Formula: see text] with the transfer matrix of the models and of the [Formula: see text]’s between each other. Most importantly, [Formula: see text] is modular invariant in the sense of Faddeev. We derive the Baxter equation for the eigenvalues [Formula: see text] of [Formula: see text] and show that these are entire functions of [Formula: see text]. This last property will ultimately lead to the quantization of the spectrum for the considered Toda chains, in a subsequent publication [1]. This work is dedicated to the memory of L. D. Faddeev

The Quantum Auxiliary Linear Problem & Darboux-Backlund Transformations

Anastasia Doikou, Iain Findlay

We explore the notion of the quantum auxiliary linear problem and the associated problem of quantum Backlund transformations (BT). In this context we systematically construct the analogue of the classical formula that provides the whole hierarchy of the time components of Lax pairs at the quantum level for both closed and open integrable lattice models. The generic time evolution operator formula is particularly interesting and novel at the quantum level when dealing with systems with open boundary conditions. In the same frame we show that the reflection $K$-matrix can also be viewed as a particular type of BT, fixed at the boundaries of the system. The $q$-oscillator ($q$-boson) model, a variant of the Ablowitz-Ladik model, is then employed as a paradigm to illustrate the method. Particular emphasis is given to the time part of the quantum BT as possible connections and applications to the problem of quantum quenches as well as the time evolution of local quantum impurities are evident. A discussion on the use of Bethe states as well as coherent states and the path integral formulation for the study of the time evolution is also presented.

A shortcut to theQ-operator

Vladimir V. Bazhanov, Tomasz Łukowski, Carlo Meneghelli A +1 more

Baxter's Q -operator is generally believed to be the most powerful tool for the exact diagonalization of integrable models. Curiously, it has hitherto not yet been properly constructed in the simplest such system, the compact spin- Heisenberg–Bethe XXX spin chain. Here we attempt to fill this gap and show how two linearly independent operatorial solutions to Baxter's TQ equation may be constructed as commuting transfer matrices if a twist field is present. The latter are obtained by tracing over infinitely many oscillator states living in the auxiliary channel of an associated monodromy matrix. We furthermore compare our approach to and differentiate it from earlier articles addressing the problem of the construction of the Q -operator for the XXX chain. Finally we speculate on the importance of Q -operators for the physical interpretation of recent proposals for the Y -system of AdS/CFT.
