Abstract

Abstract We introduce the anisotropic two-photon Rabi model in which the rotating and counter rotating terms enters the Hamiltonian with two different coupling constants. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors are studied with exact means. We employ a variation of the Braak method based on Bogolubov rotation of the underlying su (1, 1) Lie algebra. Accordingly, the spectrum is provided by the analytical properties of a suitable meromorphic function. Our formalism applies to the two-modes Rabi model as well, sharing the same algebraic structure of the two-photon model. Through the analysis of the spectrum, we discover that the model displays close analogies to many-body systems undergoing quantum phase transitions.

Analytical solution and spectral structure of the two-photon anisotropic Rabi-Stark model

Zhan-Yuan Yan, Jiaxin Cheng, Fangcheng Qiu +3 more

Abstract Since the realization of the strong coupling between light and matter in experimental setups, the quantum Rabi model and its generalized models describing the interaction between the boson field and the two-level system have attracted extensive interest again. The study of anisotropic generalized Rabi models enables us to better understand the novel physical properties of the interaction between light and matter in the ultra-strong and deep-strong coupling regions. In this work, the two-photon anisotropic Rabi-Stark model (tpARSM) is analytically solved by using the Bogoliubov operator approach and the su(1, 1) Lie algebra. We derive the G-function, whose zeros give the regular spectrum of the system. By studying the pole structure of the G-function and the coefficients in the function, exceptional solutions, including the first-order quantum phase transition points, doubly degenerate exceptional solutions and nondegenerate exceptional solutions, are obtained. By discussing the spectral structure, we give the conditions for the first-order quantum phase transition of tpARSM. Furthermore, we find that the property that all of the lowest doubly degenerate crossing points in the two-photon Rabi-Stark model have the same energy only holds for the special case of the tpARSM in which the anisotropy parameter is equal to 1. Finally, from the perspective of first-order quantum phase transitions, concise conditions for the ground state energy level to collapse to or escape from the collapse point for the tpARSM are presented. A good understanding of the tpARSM will lay a good foundation for studying the extended two-photon systems involving multiple levels and multiple bosonic modes, and even the relevant open quantum systems.

Two-photon Rabi model: analytic solutions and spectral collapse

Liwei Duan, You-Fei Xie, Daniel Braak +1 more

Abstract The two-photon quantum Rabi model is analyzed using the Z 4 -symmetry and su ( 1 , 1 ) -algebra. We derive the G -function whose zeros give the exact eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian. The singularity structure of the G -function allows to draw conclusions about the distribution of these eigenvalues along the real axis and we derive the spectral collapse phenomenon at critical coupling g c , found numerically before. The spectrum at g c consists of a discrete and a continuous part: the ground state is always separated from the continuum by a finite excitation gap, ruling out a quantum phase transition in the usual sense. For large qubit splitting, also other low lying states split off from the continuum. However, perturbation theory predicts the vanishing of the gap to all orders, demonstrating its non-perturbative nature. We corroborate this result with a variational calculation for the ground state.

Analytical Solution for the Anisotropic Rabi Model: Effects of Counter-Rotating Terms

Guofeng Zhang, Han‐Jie Zhu

The anisotropic Rabi model, which was proposed recently, differs from the original Rabi model: the rotating and counter-rotating terms are governed by two different coupling constants. This feature allows us to vary the counter-rotating interaction independently and explore the effects of it on some quantum properties. In this paper, we eliminate the counter-rotating terms approximately and obtain the analytical energy spectrums and wavefunctions. These analytical results agree well with the numerical calculations in a wide range of the parameters including the ultrastrong coupling regime. In the weak counter-rotating coupling limit we find out that the counter-rotating terms can be considered as the shifts to the parameters of the Jaynes-Cummings model. This modification shows the validness of the rotating-wave approximation on the assumption of near-resonance and relatively weak coupling. Moreover, the analytical expressions of several physics quantities are also derived, and the results show the break-down of the U(1)-symmetry and the deviation from the Jaynes-Cummings model.

Unified approach to the nonlinear Rabi models

Liwei Duan

Abstract An analytical approach is proposed to study the two-photon, two-mode and intensity-dependent Rabi models. By virtue of the su(1, 1) Lie algebra, all of them can be unified to the same Hamiltonian with Z 2 symmetry. There exist exact isolated solutions, which are located at the level crossings between different parities and correspond to eigenstates with finite dimension. Beyond the exact isolated solutions, the regular spectrum can be achieved by finding the roots of the G-function. The corresponding eigenstates are of infinite dimension. It is noteworthy that the expansion coefficients of the eigenstates present an exponential decay behavior. The decay rate decreases with increasing coupling strength. When the coupling strength tends to the spectral collapse point g → ω/2, the decay rate tends to zero which prevents the convergence of the wave functions. This work paves a way for the analysis of novel physics in nonlinear quantum optics.

Quantum dynamics of two-photon quantum Rabi model

Zhiguo Lü, Chunjian Zhao, Hang Zheng

Abstract We apply a simple analytical method based on a unitary transformation to calculate the ground state, its excitation spectrum and quantum dynamic evolution of physical quantities for the double-photon quantum Rabi Hamiltonian over the wide coupling-strength range. The concise analytical method possesses the same mathematical simplicity as the approach of the rotating wave approximation (RWA). By quantitative comparison with the numerically exact result obtained by matrix diagonalization, we confirm that our calculated results obtained by transformed rotating-wave method are not only accurate in the weak coupling regime but also correct in intermediate strong-coupling case. In the intermediate ultrastrong-coupling regime, the calculated values of the ground state and lower lying excited states are nearly the same as the exact ones. It turns out that our calculation for the energy spectrum is beyond the ordinary-RWA. Meanwhile, we demonstrate the signatures resulting from the counter-rotating wave terms by monitoring the population, the coherence, the squeezing of the photon under the ultra-strong conditions. In particular, we find that when the frequency of the photon is much larger than the transition frequency of the system, the lineshape of the time evolution becomes complicated with the increase of the coupling strength, which may be verified experimentally.

Exact solutions of the full two-photon Rabi model

Xinghan Chen, Jiong Li

The full two-photon quantum Rabi model describes the nonlinear coupling between a superconducting qubit and a resonator. It possesses [Formula: see text] symmetry, in contrast to the conventional two-photon quantum Rabi model in cavity quantum electrodynamics systems, which exhibits [Formula: see text] symmetry. Using the su(1,1) Lie algebra and [Formula: see text] symmetry, we derive a transcendental function whose zeros yield the exact eigenvalues. The spectral collapse phenomenon at the critical coupling [Formula: see text] is derived analytically. At [Formula: see text], the model can be mapped to an inverse-square potential well, where an infinite number of bound states approach the threshold energy exponentially. Our results may provide new insights into spectral phenomena in practical experimental realizations of superconducting circuits with nonlinear coupling.
