Various notions of positivity for bi-linear maps and applications to tri-partite entanglement

Abstract

We consider bi-linear analogues of s-positivity for linear maps. The dual objects of these notions can be described in terms of Schmidt ranks for tri-tensor products and Schmidt numbers for tri-partite quantum states. These tri-partite versions of Schmidt numbers cover various kinds of bi-separability, and so we may interpret witnesses for those in terms of bi-linear maps. We give concrete examples of witnesses for various kinds of three qubit entanglement.

Three-qubit entanglement witnesses with the full spanning properties

Seung-Hyeok Kye

We construct three-qubit entanglement witnesses with the full spanning property, by which we mean that all the partial transposes have the spanning properties. These witnesses determine faces for separable states whose interior lies in the interior of positive partial transposes (PPT) states, and so they detect sets of PPT entangled states with nonempty interiors. These witnesses also detect fully bi-separable states as well as all kinds of bi-separable pure product states. Our construction depends on the observation that multi-partite entanglement witnesses correspond to positive multi-linear maps.

Schmidt states and positivity of linear maps

Aik-meng Kuah, E. C. G. Sudarshan

Using pure entangled Schmidt states, we show that m-positivity of a map is bounded by the ranks of its negative Kraus matrices. We also give an algebraic condition for a map to be m-positive. We interpret these results in the context of positive maps as entanglement witnesses, and find that only 1-positive maps are needed for testing entanglement.

Families of $k$-positive maps and Schmidt number witnesses from generalized equiangular measurements

Katarzyna Siudzińska

Quantum entanglement is an important resource in many modern technologies, like quantum computation or quantum communication and information processing. Therefore, most interest is given to detect and quantify entangled states. Entanglement degree of bipartite mixed quantum states can be measured using the Schmidt number. Witnesses of the Schmidt number are closely related to $k$-positive linear maps, for which there is no general construction. Here, we use the generalized equiangular measurements to define a family of $k$-positive linear maps and the corresponding Schmidt number witnesses. We present examples of witnesses that detect two-parameter entangled states with Schmidt number $k+1$ in any dimension. Our approach allows for a more efficient entanglement quantification than other known Schmidt number witnesses constructed from symmetric measurement operators.

Dualities and positivity in the study of quantum entanglement

Łukasz Skowronek

We present a survey on mathematical topics relating to separable states and entanglement witnesses. The convex cone duality between separable states and entanglement witnesses is discussed and later generalized to other families of operators, leading to their characterization via multiplicative properties. The condition for an operator to be an entanglement witness is rephrased as a problem of positivity of a family of real polynomials. By solving the latter in a specific case of a three-parameter family of operators, we obtain explicit description of entanglement witnesses belonging to that family. A related problem of block positivity over real numbers is discussed. We also consider a broad family of block positivity tests and prove that they can never be sufficient, which should be useful in case of future efforts in that direction. Finally, we introduce the concept of length of a separable state and present new results concerning relationships between the length and Schmidt rank. In particular, we prove that separable states of length lower of equal 3 have Schmidt ranks equal to their lengths. We also give an example of a state which has length 4 and Schmidt rank 3.

A note on Schmidt-number witnesses based on symmetric measurements

Xiao-Qian Mu, Hao-Fan Wang, Shao-Ming Fei

The Schmidt number is an important kind of characterization of quantum entanglement. Quantum states with higher Schmidt numbers demonstrate significant advantages in various quantum information processing tasks. By deriving a class of k-positive linear maps based on symmetric measurements, we present new Schmidt-number witnesses of class (k + 1). By detailed example, we show that our Schmidt number witnesses identify better the Schmidt number of quantum states in high-dimensional systems. Furthermore, we note that the Fedorov ratio, which coincides with the Schmidt number for pure Gaussian states and provides a close approximation in non-Gaussian cases such as spontaneous parametric down-conversion, serves as an experimentally accessible tool for validating the proposed (k +1)-class Schmidt-number witnesses.
