Abstract

We propose to produce five-partite entanglement via cascaded four-wave mixing in a high-$Q$ microresonator that may become a key to future one-way quantum computation on chip. A theoretical model is presented for the underlying continuous-variable entanglement among the generated comb modes that is expansible to more complicated scenarios. We analyze the entanglement condition when the van Loock and Furusawa criteria are violated and discuss the device parameters for potential experimental realization that may be utilized to build an integrated compact five-partite entanglement generator. The proposed approach exhibits great potential for future large-scale integrated full optical quantum computation on chip.

Five-partite continuous-variable entanglement generated by cascaded nonlinear processes in only one optical superlattice

Youbin Yu, Renhao Chu, Xingbo Fan +8 more

Abstract We theoretically investigate the generation of five-partite continuous-variable (CV) entanglement through injection-seeded non-degenerate optical parametric amplification cascaded two sum-frequency processes in only one optical superlattice without optical cavities. The idle can be generated by optical parametric amplification of pump and signal. Then, one beam will be generated by the cascaded sum-frequency process of pump and idle, and another beam will be produced by the cascaded sum-frequency process of pump and signal in the same optical superlattice. The phase-mismatching in the cascaded nonlinear processes can be compensated by three reciprocals of the optical superlattice by a quasi-phase-matching technique. The conversion dynamics among the cascaded nonlinear processes is analyzed by using a quantum stochastic method. The five-partite entanglement among pump, signal, idle, and two sum-frequency beams are discussed by applying a sufficient inseparability criteria for the five-partite CV entanglement proposed by Van Loock and Furusawa. This scheme of five-partite entanglement generation with different frequencies has potential applications in quantum communication and computation networks.

Continuous-variable multipartite entanglement in an integrated microcomb

Xinyu Jia, Chonghao Zhai, Xuezhi Zhu +11 more

The generation of large-scale entangled states is crucial for quantum technologies, such as quantum computation1, communication2 and metrology3. Integrated quantum photonics that enables on-chip encoding, processing and detection of quantum light states offers a promising platform for the generation and manipulation of large-scale entangled states4,5. Generating entanglement between qubits encoded in discrete variables within single photons is challenging, owing to the difficulty of making single photons interact on photonic chips6–11. Devices that operate with continuous variables are more promising, as they enable the deterministic generation and entanglement of qumodes, in which information is encoded in light quadratures. Demonstrations so far have been limited to entanglement between two qumodes12–20. Here we report the deterministic generation of a continuous-variable eight-mode entanglement on an integrated optical chip. The chip delivers a quantum microcomb that produces multimode squeezed-vacuum optical frequency combs below the threshold. We verify the inseparability of our eight-mode state and demonstrate supermode multipartite entanglement over hundreds of megahertz sideband frequencies through violation of the van Loock–Furusawa criteria. By measuring the full matrices of nullifier correlations with sufficiently low off-diagonal noises, we characterize multipartite entanglement structures, which are approximate to the expected cluster-type structures for finite squeezing. This work shows the potential of continuous-variable integrated photonic quantum devices for facilitating quantum computing, networking and sensing. Deterministic generation of a continuous-variable eight-mode entanglement on an integrated optical chip is reported.

Bright six-partite continuous variable entanglement using cascaded four-wave mixing processes in a four-level atomic system

Guangqiang He, Xuefei Wu, Yi Gu

We theoretically show that bright six-partite continuous-variable entanglement can be generated using cascaded four-wave mixing effects of third-order nonlinearity atomic systems above threshold. The six-partite continuous-variable entanglement among the six cavity fields with different frequencies is analyzed by applying optimized inseparability criteria proposed by Van Loock and Furusawa.

Five-partite entanglement generation between two optical frequency combs in a quasi-periodic χ (2) nonlinear optical crystal

Guangqiang He, Yu Sun, Linxi Hu +3 more

We theoretically prove five-partite entanglement can be produced among modes of two simultaneously generated optical frequency combs via second-order nonlinear interaction in a designed periodically poled lithium niobat (PPLN) crystal. An extendible model is proposed to analyze the entanglement characteristics of generated comb modes by applying van Loock and Furusawa criteria. Our proposal provides a potential approach for generating multipartite entangled states, the so-called cluster states, which are the key resources for quantum computation. Moreover, simultaneously generation of two entangled combs can provide much higher efficiency to generate cluster states.

Generation of continuous-variable tripartite entanglement using cascaded nonlinearities

Juan Guo, Hongxin Zou, Zehui Zhai +2 more

It is theoretically shown that tripartite entanglement with different wavelengths can be generated by cascaded nonlinear interaction in an optical parametric oscillator cavity with parametric down conversion and sum-frequency generation. A sufficient inseparability criterion for continuous-variable tripartite entanglement proposed by van Loock and Furusawa was used to evaluate the degree of the quadrature-phase amplitude correlations between the three modes. The dependences of correlation on the cavity parameters and pump intensity are discussed.

Multipartite Entanglement in Bright Frequency Combs from Microresonators

Adrien Bensemhoun, Carlos González-Arciniegas, Olivier Pfister +6 more

We present a theoretical model of multimode quantum correlations in bright frequency combs generated in continuous-wave regime by microresonators above threshold. Our analysis shows how these correlations emerge from cascading four-wave mixing processes fed by the input pump as well as the generated bright beams. Logarithmic negativity criterion is employed to quantify entanglement between partitions of modes, demonstrating the transition from a bipartite regime just above the oscillation threshold to the multipartite one at higher input pump powers. Due to its generality, our model can be safely used to describe other kinds of non-linear $χ$ (3) cavities.
