Abstract

We construct clusters of bound particles for a quantum integrable derivative δ- function Bose gas in one dimension. It is found that clusters of bound particles can be constructed for this Bose gas for some special values of the coupling constant, by taking the quasi-momenta associated with the corresponding Bethe state to be equidistant points on a single circle in the complex momentum plane. Interestingly, there exists a connection between the above mentioned special values of the coupling constant and some fractions belonging to the Farey sequences in number theory. This connection leads to a classification of the clusters of bound particles for the derivative S-function Bose gas and the determination of various properties of these clusters like their size and their stability under a variation of the coupling constant.

Statistical Mechanics of Quantum Integrable Systems

Miki Wadati, Go Kato, Toshiaki Iida

Recent developments in statistical mechanics of quantum integrable systems are reviewed. Those studies are fundamental and have a renewed interest related to newly developing fields such as atomic Bose-Einstein condensations, photonic crystals and quantum computations. After a brief summary of the basic concepts and methods, the following three topics are discussed. First, by the thermal Bethe ansatz (TBA), a hard-core Bose gas is exactly solved. The model includes fully the effect of excluded volume and is identified to be a c=1 conformal field theory. Second, the cluster expansion method based on the periodic boundary condition for the Bethe wave function, which we call the Bethe ansatz cluster expansion (BACE) method, is developed for a δ-function gas and the XXX Heisenberg chain. This directly proves the TBA and reveals intrinsic properties of quantum integrable systems. Third, for a δ-function gas, the integral equations for the distribution functions of the quasi-momentum and the quasi-particle energy are solved in the form of power series. In the weak coupling case, the results reproduce those of Bogoliubov theory.

Singular Cluster Interactions in Few-Body Problems

Sergio A Albeverio, Pavel Kurasov

The present paper is devoted to the study of the few–body quantum mechanical problem with singular finite rank cluster interactions. The corresponding Hamiltonians play an important role in mathematical physics, since few body Hamiltonians with more regular interactions present considerable difficulties which make impossible a detailed analytic study [ 13 ]. Also a numerical study of such Hamiltonians using Faddeev equations present very hard problems, since the interaction between the particles does not vanish at large distances. On the other hand few-body problems with singular cluster interaction are useful and intensively studied in statistical physics, since the corresponding Hamiltonians can be analyzed in detail even if the number of particles is very large. Models describing one dimensional particles are of particular interest, since the eigenfunctions of the many body Hamiltonians can often be calculated using Bethe Ansatz [ 14 ]. In fact the well-known Yang-Baxter equation was first written in connection with the study of system of several one-dimensional particles with pairwise delta interactions. Similar methods were used in atomic physics to study collisions of several particles [ 12 ] (in three dimensions). Few-body systems in applications are usually investigated by combining the classical description of the dynamics of heavy atoms with the quantum description of the dynamics of electrons and other light particles. The first attempt to construct a three body Hamiltonian describing three quantum particles in R 3 interacting through pairwise delta functional potentials is due to G.V. Skorniakov and K.A.Ter-Martirosian [ 29 ]. R.A.Minlos and L.D.Faddeev proved that the corresponding Hamiltonian is not bounded from below and therefore cannot be used in 278 the originally intended physical applications [ 24 , 25 ]. The operator was defined using the method of self–adjoint perturbations used by F.A.Berezin and L.D.Faddeev for investigating Schödinger operators with delta potential in R 3 [ 10 ]. Almost three decades later semibounded three-body operators in dimension three with generalized two-body interactions were constructed by extending the standard Hilbert space of square integrable functions in R 9 [ 17 , 18 , 19 , 27 , 30 ]. The most interesting model considered used the theory of generalized extensions suggested by B.Pavlov [ 7 , 26 ]. Different aspects of these models were analyzed recently [ 8 , 23 , 20 ]. A general approach to these operators is described in [ 7 , 22 ]. Let us mention that a realization of a many-body lower bounded Hamiltonian with point interactions for particles in R 3 has been obtained in the original Hilbert space by using the theory of Dirichlet forms [ 2 ]. The few-body systems of two dimensional particles with two-body interactions was studied in [ 11 ], where it was proven that the corresponding Hamiltonian is semibounded.

Graphical representation of the partition function of a one-dimensional δ-function Bose gas

Go Kato, Miki Wadati

The one-dimensional repulsive δ-function bose system is studied. By only using the Bethe ansatz equation, n-particle partition functions are exactly calculated. From this expression for the n-particle partition function, the n-particle cluster integral is derived. The results completely agree with those of the thermal Bethe ansatz (TBA). This directly proves the validity of the TBA. The theory of partitions and graphs is used to simplify the discussion.

Partition function for a one-dimensional δ-function Bose gas

Go Kato, Miki Wadati

The N-particle partition function of a one-dimensional delta-function Bose gas is calculated explicitly using only the periodic boundary condition (the Bethe ansatz equation). The N-particles cluster integrals are shown to be the same as those by the thermal Bethe ansatz method.

FERMIONIC DUAL OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL BOSONIC PARTICLES WITH DERIVATIVE DELTA FUNCTION POTENTIAL

B. Basu-Mallick, Tanaya Bhattacharyya

We investigate the boson–fermion duality relation for the case of quantum integrable derivative δ-function Bose gas. In particular, we find a dual fermionic system with nonvanishing zero-range interaction for the simplest case of two bosonic particles with derivative δ-function interaction. The coupling constant of this dual fermionic system becomes inversely proportional to the product of the coupling constant of its bosonic counterpart and the center-of-mass momentum of the corresponding eigenfunction.

One-particle dynamical correlations in the one-dimensional Bose gas

Jean-Sébastien Caux, Pasquale Calabrese, Nikita A

Abstract. The momentum- and frequency-dependent one-body correlation function of the one-dimensional interacting Bose gas (Lieb-Liniger model) in the repulsive regime is studied using the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz and numerics. We first provide a determinant representation for the field form factor which is welladapted to numerical evaluation. The correlation function is then reconstructed to high accuracy for systems with finite but large numbers of particles, for a wide range of values of the interaction parameter. Our results are extensively discussed, in particular their specialization to the static case. One-particle dynamical correlations in the one-dimensional Bose gas 2 1.
