Uncertainty Relation of Functions for Kernel-based Transforms Obtained in Quantum Mechanics

Abstract

In this paper, the generic uncertainty relation (UR) for kernel-based transformations (KT) of signals is derived. Instead of using the statistics approach as shown in the literature before, here we employ quantum mechanical operator approach for directly deriving the UR for KT's. We are able to do this because we have found the quantum operator realization of KT. Our new method is concise and applicable to any kinds of KT's with continuous and discrete parameters and variables. An explicit result of UR for a family of KT's including FrFT, generalized fractional transformation (GFrT) and linear canonical transformation (LCT) is provided as an application of our new method.

Generalized uncertainty relations

Andrzej Herdegen, Piotr Ziobro

The standard uncertainty relations (UR) in quantum mechanics are typically used for unbounded operators (like the canonical pair). This implies the need for the control of the domain problems. On the other hand, the use of (possibly bounded) functions of basic observables usually leads to more complex and less readily interpretable relations. In addition, UR may turn trivial for certain states if the commutator of observables is not proportional to a positive operator. In this letter we consider a generalization of standard UR resulting from the use of two, instead of one, vector states. The possibility to link these states to each other in various ways adds additional flexibility to UR, which may compensate some of the above-mentioned drawbacks. We discuss applications of the general scheme, leading not only to technical improvements, but also to interesting new insight.

Quantum mechanical perspectives and generalization of the fractional Fourier Transformation

Junhua Chen, Hong-Yi Fan

Fourier and fractional-Fourier transformations are widely used in theoretical physics. In this paper we make quantum perspectives and generalization for the fractional Fourier transformation (FrFT). By virtue of quantum mechanical representation transformation and the method of integration within normal ordered product (IWOP) of operators, we find the key point for composing FrFT, and reveal the structure of FrFT. Following this procedure, a full family of generalized fractional transformations are discovered with the usual FrFT as one special case. The eigen-functions of arbitrary GFrT are derived explicitly.

A Generalized Uncertainty Principle Involving Fractional Fourier Transform

Marni Rezki, Mawardi Bahri, Muhammad Zakir

It is well known that the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is a non-trivial generalization of the classical Fourier transform. This transform has been extensively utilized in signal analysis and image processing. The uncertainty principle is one of the fundamental results related to the FrFT. In the present paper, we first propose the different method in proving a variant of Heisenberg uncertainty principles associated with the FrFT. This method combines the Heisenberg-type uncertainty principle pertaining to the FrFT and the additive property of the FrFT. We then provide an alternative proof of the logarithmic inequality for the FRFT and find that this result differs slightly that in the literature. Finally, we explicitly expand the variant of Heisenberg uncertainty principle to a more general case.

Bi-dimensional Generalized Uncertainty Relations Associated with Hilbert Transform in LCT Domain

Guanlei Xu, Shao Limin, Xiaotong Wang +1 more

This paper discusses the Heisenberg’s uncertainty relations associated with two types of 2D LCT (linear canonical transform). These uncertainty bounds are related with the transform parameters of LCT. In addition, we show that the certainty bounds for the complex signals derived by LCT are different with that for the general complex signals in most cases. The special cases of these principles in traditional domains are provided as well. First, these new uncertainty relations enrich the ensemble of uncertainty principles. Second, these derived bounds yield new viewpoint of complex signals via 2D Hilbert transform.

Discrete uncertainty relations

Dorje C. Brody, Bernhard K. Meister

Generalized uncertainty relations based upon Fourier transforms of both discrete and continuous functions are briefly reviewed. We extend these results in order to establish discrete versions of the angular momentum uncertainty relations, based upon SU (2) transformations. Possible applications in quantum signal processing and computations are briefly discussed.

An uncertainty principle for the basic wavelet transform

Javid Ahmad Ganie, Renu Jain

The aim of this paper is to derive the uncertainty principle which has implications in signal analysis and in quantum mechanics. First, we derive the definition of the wavelet transform in [Formula: see text]-calculus by using some weight function. Certain properties like linearity, scaling, translation, etc. were discussed. Later on, to illustrate this integral transform several results were derived for the effectiveness and performance of the proposed method. Also, this paper surveys recent applications to establish generalized uncertainty principle.
