Abstract

Routing of photon play a key role in optical communication and quantum networks. Although the quantum routing of signals has been investigated in various systems both in theory and experiment. However, no current theory can route quantum signals between microwave and optical light. Here, we propose an experimentally accessible tunable multi-channel quantum routing proposal using photon-phonon translation in a hybrid opto-electromechanical system. It is the first demonstration that the single-photon of optical frequency can be routed into three different output ports by adjusting microwave power. More important, the two output signals can be selected according to microwave power. Meanwhile, we also demonstrate the vacuum and thermal noise will be insignificant for the optical performance of the single-photon router at temperature of the order of 20 mK. Our proposal may have paved a new avenue towards multi-channel router and quantum network.

Routing of photon play a key role in optical communication networks and quantum networks. Although the quantum routing of signals has been investigated in various systems both in theory and experiment, the general form of quantum routing with multi-output terminals still needs to be explored. Here, we propose an experimentally accessible tunable single-photon multi-channel routing scheme using a optomechanics cavity coulomb coupling to a nanomechanical resonator. The router can extract a single-photon from the coherent input signal directly modulate into three different output channels. More important, the two output signal frequencies can be selected by adjusting Coulomb coupling strength. We also demonstrate the vacuum and thermal noise will be insignificant for the optical performance of the single-photon router at temperature of the order of 20 mK. Multi-functional quantum router using hybrid opto-electromechanics

Peng-Cheng Ma, L.-L. Yan, Guibin Chen +3 more

Abstract Quantum routers engineered with multiple frequency bands play a key role in quantum networks. We propose an experimentally accessible scheme for a multi-functional quantum router, using photon–phonon conversion in a hybrid opto-electromechanical system. Our proposed device functions as a bidirectional, tunable multi-channel quantum router, and demonstrates the possibility to route single optical photons bidirectionally and simultaneously to three different output ports, by adjusting the microwave power. Further, the device also behaves as an interswitching unit for microwave and optical photons, yielding probabilistic routing of microwave (optical) signals to optical (microwave) outports. With respect to potential application, we verify the insignificant influence from vacuum and thermal noises in the performance of the router under cryogenic conditions.

Multi-outlet single photon quantum router between optics and microwave based on a hybrid optomechanical system

Qiong Wang, Lan Xu

Abstract A Multi-outlet single photon quantum router between microwave and optical frequency domain is investigated in a system consisting of a superconducting microwave cavity and an optical nanomechanical cavity coupled to a commom nanomechanical resonator (NAMR). It is demonstration that the single-photon of optical frequency can be routed into three different output ports by adjusting microwave power. More importantly, the two output signals can be selected according to microwave power. Meanwhile, we also show that thermal noise will be insignificant for the optical performance of the single-photon router at temperature of the order of 20 mK. Our proposal may have paved a new avenue towards multi-channel router and quantum network.

Abstract An experimentally accessible tunable single-photon multi-channel quantum router is investigated in a system consisting of an optomechanics cavity coulomb coupling to a nano-mechanical resonator. The router can extract a single-photon from the coherent input signal directly modulate into three different output channels, and the output probability is all close to 1. More important, the two output signal frequencies can be selected by adjusting Coulomb coupling strength. We also demonstrate the vacuum and thermal noise will be insignificant for the optical performance of the single-photon router at temperature of the order of 20 mK. Quantum filter routing of single photons

Xingmin Li, Jun Xin, Guolong Li +2 more

A quantum router takes the central role in an optical quantum network. However, how to route the expected photons with different frequencies to the targeted output ports of the quantum network is still a basic challenge. Here, we propose an effective approach, by setting the proper cavity-atom and photon-cavity chiral interactions, to realize quantum filter routing of single photons with different frequencies in a multi-channel quantum network. With the frequency serving as the signpost, the photons can be effectively routed to the targeted output ports by modulating the detunings between the cavities and the auxiliary atoms. Hopefully, this technique can play an important role in the construction of a highly efficient optical quantum network.
