Bright dipolar Bose-Einstein-condensate soliton mobile in a direction perpendicular to polarization

Abstract

We demonstrate stable, robust, bright one-dimensional dipolar Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) solitons, moving in a direction perpendicular to the polarization direction, formed due to dipolar interaction for repulsive contact interaction. At medium velocity the head on collision of two such solitons is found to be quasielastic with practically no deformation. Upon small perturbation the solitons are found to exhibit sustained breathing oscillation. The findings are illustrated by numerical simulation using the three-dimensional mean-field Gross-Pitaevskii equation and a reduced two-dimensional model in three and two spatial dimensions employing realistic interaction parameters for a dipolar $^{164}\mathrm{Dy}$ BEC.

Stable, mobile, dark-in-bright, dipolar Bose-Einstein-condensate solitons

Sadhan K. Adhikari

We demonstrate robust, stable, mobile, quasi-one-dimensional, dark-in-bright dipolar Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) solitons with a notch in the central plane formed due to dipolar interaction for repulsive contact interaction. At medium velocity the head-on collision of two such solitons is found to be quasielastic with practically no deformation. A proposal for creating dipolar dark-in-bright solitons in laboratories by phase imprinting is also discussed. A rich variety of such solitons can be formed in dipolar binary BECs, where one can have a dark-in-bright soliton coupled to a bright soliton or two coupled dark-in-bright solitons. The findings are illustrated using numerical simulation in three spatial dimensions by employing realistic interaction parameters for a dipolar ${}^{164}$Dy BEC and a binary ${}^{164}$Dy-${}^{162}$Dy BEC.

Two-dimensional bright and dark-in-bright dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate solitons on a one-dimensional optical lattice

S K Adhikari

Abstract We study the statics and dynamics of anisotropic, stable, bright and dark-in-bright dipolar quasi-two-dimensional Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) solitons on a one-dimensional (1D) optical-lattice (OL) potential. These solitons mobile in a plane perpendicular to a 1D OL trap can have both repulsive and attractive contact interactions. Dark-in-bright solitons are the excited states of bright solitons. The solitons, when subjected to a small perturbation, exhibit sustained breathing oscillation. Dark-in-bright solitons can be created by phase imprinting a bright soliton. At medium velocities the collision between two solitons is found to be quasi-elastic. Results are demonstrated by a numerical simulation of the three-dimensional mean-field Gross–Pitaevskii equation in three spatial dimensions employing realistic interaction parameters for a dipolar 164 Dy BEC.

Stable and mobile excited two-dimensional dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate solitons

Sadhan K. Adhikari, Paulo São Paulo

We demonstrate robust, stable, mobile excited states of quasi-two-dimensional (quasi-2D) dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) solitons for repulsive contact interaction with a harmonic trap along the x direction perpendicular to the polarization direction z. Such a soliton can freely move in the y − z plane. A rich variety of such excitations is considered: one quanta of excitation for movement along (i) y axis or (ii) z axis or (iii) both. A proposal for creating these excited solitonic states in a laboratory by phase imprinting is also discussed. We also consider excited states of quasi-2D dipolar BEC soliton where the sign of the dipolar interaction is reversed by a rotating orienting field. In this sign-changed case the soliton moves freely in the x − y plane under the action of a harmonic trap in the z direction. At medium velocity the head-on collision of two such solitons is found to be quasi elastic with practically no deformation. The findings are illustrated using numerical simulation in three and two spatial dimensions employing realistic interaction parameters for a dipolar 164Dy BEC.

Dynamics of quasi-one-dimensional bright and vortex solitons of a dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate with repulsive atomic interaction

Luis E. Young-S., Paulsamy Muruganandam, Sadhan K. Adhikari

By numerical and variational analysis of the three-dimensional Gross–Pitaevskii equation, we study the formation and dynamics of bright and vortex-bright solitons in a cigar-shaped dipolar Bose–Einstein condensate for large repulsive atomic interactions. A phase diagram showing the region of stability of the solitons is obtained. We also study the dynamics of breathing oscillation of the solitons as well as the collision dynamics of two solitons. At large velocities the frontal collision is elastic and the two three-dimensional solitons pass through each other undeformed. Two solitons placed side by side at rest coalesce to form a stable bound soliton molecule due to dipolar attraction. Movie clips illustrating collision and molecule-formation dynamics of two bright and vortex-bright solitons are included.

Stable and mobile two-dimensional dipolar ring-dark-in-bright Bose–Einstein condensate soliton

Sadhan K. Adhikari

Abstract We demonstrate robust, stable, mobile two-dimensional (2D) dipolar ring-dark-in-bright (RDB) Bose–Einstein condensate (BEC) solitons for repulsive contact interaction, subject to a harmonic trap along the y direction perpendicular to the polarisation direction z . Such a RDB soliton has a ring-shaped notch (zero in density) imprinted on a 2D bright soliton free to move in the x − z plane. At medium velocity the head-on collision of two such solitons is found to be quasi-elastic with practically no deformation. The possibility of creating the RDB soliton by phase imprinting is demonstrated. The findings are illustrated using numerical simulation employing realistic interaction parameters in a dipolar 164 Dy BEC.
