Abstract

We establish a procedure to find the extremal density matrices for any finite Hamiltonian of a qudit system. These extremal density matrices provide an approximate description of the energy spectra of the Hamiltonian. In the case of restricting the extremal density matrices by pure states, we show that the energy spectra of the Hamiltonian is recovered for $d=2$ and $3$. We conjecture that by means of this approach the energy spectra can be recovered for the Hamiltonian of an arbitrary finite qudit system. For a given qudit system Hamiltonian, we find new inequalities connecting the mean value of the Hamiltonian and the entropy of an arbitrary state. We demonstrate that these inequalities take place for both the considered extremal density matrices and generic ones.

Extremal Density Matrices for Qudit States

Armando Figueroa, Julio A. López-Saldívar, Octavio Castaños +1 more

An algebraic procedure to find extremal density matrices for any Hamiltonian of a qudit system is established. The extremal density matrices for pure states provide a complete description of the system, that is, the energy spectra of the Hamiltonian and their corresponding projectors. For extremal density matrices representing mixed states, one gets mean values of the energy in between the maximum and minimum energies associated to the pure case. These extremal densities give also the corresponding mixture of eigenstates that yields the corresponding mean value of the energy. We enhance that the method can be extended to any hermitian operator.

Extremal Density Matrices for the Expectation Value of a Qudit Hamiltonian

Octavio Castaños, Armando Figueroa, Julio A. López-Saldívar +1 more

An algebraic procedure to find extremal density matrices for the expectation value of a finite Hamiltonian matrix is established. The extremal density matrices for pure states provide a complete description of the system, that is, its corresponding energy spectrum and projectors. For density matrices representing mixed states, one gets the most probable eigenstates that yield extremal mean values of the energy. The procedure uses mainly the stationary solutions of the von Neumann equation of motion, the orbits of the Hamiltonian, and the positivity conditions of the density matrix. The method is illustrated for matrix Hamiltonians of dimensions d = 2 and d = 3.

Properties of Nonnegative Hermitian Matrices and New Entropic Inequalities for Noncomposite Quantum Systems

Margarita A. Man’ko, Vladimir I. Man’ko

We consider the probability distributions, spin (qudit)-state tomograms and density matrices of quantum states, and their information characteristics, such as Shannon and von Neumann entropies and q-entropies, from the viewpoints of both well-known purely mathematical features of nonnegative numbers and nonnegative matrices and their physical characteristics, such as entanglement and other quantum correlation phenomena. We review entropic inequalities such as the Araki–Lieb inequality and the subadditivity and strong subadditivity conditions known for bipartite and tripartite systems, and recently obtained for single qudit states. We present explicit matrix forms of the known and some new entropic inequalities associated with quantum states of composite and noncomposite systems. We discuss the tomographic probability distributions of qudit states and demonstrate the inequalities for tomographic entropies of the qudit states. In addition, we mention a possibility to use the discussed information properties of single qudit states in quantum technologies based on multilevel atoms and quantum circuits produced of Josephson junctions.

Weighted information and weighted entropic inequalities for qutrit and ququart states

Vladimir I. Man’ko, Zhanat Batyrbekuly Seilov

The notion of weighted quantum entropy is reviewed and considered for bipartite and noncomposite quantum systems. The known for the weighted entropy information inequality (subadditivity condition) is extended to the case of indivisible qudit system on example of qutrit. This new inequality for qutrit density matrix is discussed for different cases of weights and states. The role of weighted entropy is discussed in connection with studies of nonlinear quantum channels.

New Minkowski type inequalities and entropic inequalities for quantum states of qudits

Vladimir I. Man’ko, Liubov A. Markovich

The two-parameter Minkowski like inequality written for composite quantum system state is obtained for arbitrary Hermitian non-negative matrix with trace equal to unity. The inequality can be used as entropic and information inequality for density matrix of noncomposite finite quantum system, e.g. for a single qudit state. The analogs of strong subadditivity condition for the single qudit is discussed in context of obtained Minkowski like inequality.

New Entropic Inequalities and Hidden Correlations in Quantum Suprematism Picture of Qudit States

Margarita A. Man’ko, Vladimir I. Man’ko

We study an analog of Bayes’ formula and the nonnegativity property of mutual information for systems with one random variable. For single-qudit states, we present new entropic inequalities in the form of the subadditivity and condition corresponding to hidden correlations in quantum systems. We present qubit states in the quantum suprematism picture, where these states are identified with three probability distributions, describing the states of three classical coins, and illustrate the states by Triada of Malevich’s squares with areas satisfying the quantum constraints. We consider arbitrary quantum states belonging to N-dimensional Hilbert space as ( N 2 − 1 ) fair probability distributions describing the states of ( N 2 − 1 ) classical coins. We illustrate the geometrical properties of the qudit states by a set of Triadas of Malevich’s squares. We obtain new entropic inequalities for matrix elements of an arbitrary density N×N-matrix of qudit systems using the constructed maps of the density matrix on a set of the probability distributions. In addition, to construct the bijective map of the qudit state onto the set of probabilities describing the positions of classical coins, we show that there exists a bijective map of any quantum observable onto the set of dihotomic classical random variables with statistics determined by the above classical probabilities. Finally, we discuss the physical meaning and possibility to check derived inequalities in the experiments with superconducting circuits based on Josephson junction devices.
