Abstract

A detailed study of a model for strongly-interacting fermions with exclusion rules and lattice $\mathcal N=2$ supersymmetry is presented. A submanifold in the space of parameters of the model where it is Bethe-ansatz solvable is identified. The relation between this manifold and the existence of additional, so-called dynamic, supersymmetries is discussed. The ground states are analysed with the help of cohomology techniques, and their exact finite-size Bethe roots are found. Moreover, through analytical and numerical studies it is argued that the model provides a lattice version of the $\mathcal N=1$ super-sine-Gordon model at a particular coupling where an additional $\mathcal N=(2,2)$ supersymmetry is present. The dynamic supersymmetry is shown to allow an exact determination of the gap scaling function of the model.

Lattice Models with N=2 Supersymmetry

Paul Fendley, Kareljan Schoutens, Jan De Boer A

We introduce lattice models with explicit N=2 supersymmetry. In these interacting models, the supersymmetry generators Q+/- yield the Hamiltonian H=(Q(+),Q(-)) on any graph. The degrees of freedom can be described as either fermions with hard cores, or as quantum dimers; the Hamiltonian of our simplest model contains a hopping term and a repulsive potential. We analyze these models using conformal field theory, the Bethe ansatz, and cohomology. The simplest model provides a manifestly supersymmetric lattice regulator for the supersymmetric point of the massless (1+1)-dimensional Thirring (Luttinger) model. Generalizations include a quantum monomer-dimer model on a two-leg ladder.

Time dynamics of Bethe ansatz solvable models

Igor Ermakov, Tim Byrnes

We develop a method for finding the time evolution of exactly solvable models by Bethe ansatz, with Hilbert space linear in excitation number. The dynamical Bethe wave function takes the same form as the stationary Bethe wave function, except for time-varying Bethe parameters and a complex phase prefactor. From this, we derive a set of first-order nonlinear coupled differential equations for the Bethe parameters, called the dynamical Bethe equations. We find that this gives the exact solution to particular types of exactly solvable models, including the Bose-Hubbard dimer. The developed formalism allows us to demonstrate analytically that time dynamics of the detuning-quenched Bose-Hubbard dimer occurs in the subspace which dimensionality is less than that of the physical Hilbert space. This allows for calculation of the time dynamics within a reduced problem dimensionality.

Supersymmetry Breaking in a Generalized Nicolai Model with Fermion Pairing

Urei Miura, Keisuke Totsuka

We introduce a supersymmetric lattice fermion model that contains both fermion pairing and the interacting Nicolai model. This model possesses a single control parameter, $g$, introduced through the anticommutator of the supersymmetry generators (supercharge), and it is shown that supersymmetry is broken in both finite and infinite systems as long as $g$ is finite. Additionally, the single-mode approximation is employed to establish an upper bound on the dispersion relation of Nambu-Goldstone (NG) fermions, demonstrating their gaplessness. Finally, it is shown, through numerical and analytic calculations, that the anticipated extensive ground-state degeneracy and a zero-energy flat band does not occur for generic values of the parameter $g$.

Lattice supersymmetry in the open XXZ model: an algebraic Bethe Ansatz analysis

Robert Weston, Junye Yang

Abstract We reconsider the open XXZ chain of Yang and Fendley. This model possesses a lattice supersymmetry which changes the length of the chain by one site. We perform an algebraic Bethe ansatz analysis of the model and derive the commutation relations of the lattice SUSY operators with the four elements of the open-chain monodromy matrix. Hence we give the action of the SUSY operator on off-shell and on-shell Bethe states. We show that this action generally takes one on-shell Bethe eigenstate to another. The exception is that a zero-energy vacuum state will be a SUSY singlet. The SUSY pairings of Bethe roots we obtain are analogous to those found previously for closed chains by Fendley and Hagendorf by analysing the Bethe equations.

Exact solvable model of coupled supersymmetric t-J chains

Igor N. Karnaukhov

An exact solvable model of the coupled supersymmetric t - J chains interacting via the spin exchange interaction is proposed and solved by the means of the nested Bethe ansatz. It is shown, that in addition to the direct spin-exchange interaction an effective interaction between fermions of different chains called as "an effective attractive hard-core interaction" is realized in the model. The critical exponents describing asymptotic behavior of the correlation functions are calculated using the Bethe ansatz equations and the finite-state scaling analysis in conformal field theory. It is shown that the two-component Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid with the dominating correlations of fermion pairs is realized in the low-density region. This non-traditional behavior of the correlation functions is realized due to the effective attractive hard-core interaction between particles.

Lattice fermion models with supersymmetry

Paul Fendley, Bernard Nienhuis, Kareljan Schoutens

We investigate a family of lattice models with manifest supersymmetry. The models describe fermions on a 1D lattice, subject to the constraint that no more than k consecutive lattice sites may be occupied. We discuss the special properties arising from the supersymmetry, and present Bethe ansatz solutions of the simplest models. We display the connections of the k = 1 model with the spin- antiferromagnetic XXZ chain at Δ = −1/2, and the k = 2 model with both the su (2|1)-symmetric tJ model in the ferromagnetic regime and the integrable spin-1 XXZ chain at . We argue that these models include critical points described by the superconformal minimal models.
