Abstract

We derive an adiabatic theory for a stochastic differential equation, $ \varepsilon\, \mathrm{d} X(s) = L_1(s) X(s)\, \mathrm{d} s + \sqrt{\varepsilon} L_2(s) X(s) \, \mathrm{d} B_s, $ under a condition that instantaneous stationary states of $L_1(s)$ are also stationary states of $L_2(s)$. We use our results to derive the full statistics of tunneling for a driven stochastic Schrödinger equation describing a dephasing process.

Adiabatic theorem for a class of stochastic differential equations on a Hilbert space

Martin Fraas

We derive an adiabatic theory for a stochastic differential equation, $$ \varepsilon, \d X(s) = L\_1(s) X(s), \d s + \sqrt{\varepsilon} L\_2(s) X(s) , \d B\_s, $$ under a condition that instantaneous stationary states of $L\_1(s)$ are also stationary states of $L\_2(s)$. We use our results to derive the full statistics of tunneling for a driven stochastic Schrödinger equation describing a dephasing process.

Large deviation full counting statistics in adiabatic open quantum dynamics

Paulo J. Paulino, Igor Lesanovsky, Federico Carollo

The state of an open quantum system undergoing an adiabatic process evolves by following the instantaneous stationary state of its time-dependent generator. This observation allows one to characterize, for a generic adiabatic evolution, the average dynamics of the open system. However, information about fluctuations of dynamical observables, such as the number of photons emitted or the time-integrated stochastic entropy production in single experimental runs, requires controlling the whole spectrum of the generator and not only the stationary state. Here, we show how such information can be obtained in adiabatic open quantum dynamics by exploiting tools from large deviation theory. We prove an adiabatic theorem for deformed generators, which allows us to encode, in a biased quantum state, the full counting statistics of generic time-integrated dynamical observables. We further compute the probability associated with an arbitrary "rare" time-history of the observable and derive a dynamics which realizes it in its typical behavior. Our results provide a way to characterize and engineer adiabatic open quantum dynamics and to control their fluctuations.

Invariant measure for stochastic Schrödinger equations

Tristan Benoist, Martin Fraas, Yan Pautrat +1 more

Quantum trajectories are Markov processes that describe the time-evolution of a quantum system undergoing continuous indirect measurement. Mathematically, they are defined as solutions of the so-called "Stochastic Schrödinger Equations", which are nonlinear stochastic differential equations driven by Poisson and Wiener processes. This paper is devoted to the study of the invariant measures of quantum trajectories. Particularly, we prove that the invariant measure is unique under an ergodicity condition on the mean time evolution, and a "purification" condition on the generator of the evolution. We further show that quantum trajectories converge in law exponentially fast towards this invariant measure. We illustrate our results with examples where we can derive explicit expressions for the invariant measure.

Stochastic Schrodinger equations and applications to Ehrenfest-type theorems

Franco Fagnola, Carlos M. Mora

We study stochastic evolution equations describing the dynamics of open quantum systems. First, using resolvent approximations, we obtain a suf- ficient condition for regularity of solutions to linear stochastic Schrodinger equa- tions driven by cylindrical Brownian motions applying to many physical systems. Then, we establish well-posedness and norm conservation property of a wide class of open quantum systems described in position representation. Moreover, we prove Ehrenfest-type theorems that describe the evolution of the mean value of quantum observables in open systems. Finally, we give a new criterion for the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to non-linear stochastic Schrequations. We apply our results to physical systems such as fluctuating ion traps and quantum measurement processes of position.

Quantum Statistical Mechanics. II. Stochastic Schrodinger Equation

Phil Attard

The stochastic dissipative Schrodinger equation is derived for an open quantum system consisting of a sub-system able to exchange energy with a thermal reservoir. The resultant evolution of the wave function also gives the evolution of the density matrix, which is an explicit, stochastic form of the Lindblad master equation. A quantum fluctuation-dissipation theorem is also derived. The time correlation function is discussed.
