Abstract

We present an efficient scheme for the preparing and purifying of the four-photon Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state based on linear optics and postselection. First, we describe how to create a four-photon GHZ state in both polarization and spatial degrees of freedom from two pairs. Moreover, in the presence of depolarization noise our scheme is capable of purifying the desired state. In the regime of weak nonlinearity we design an indirect photon number-resolving detection to distinguish two states of the two pairs. At last, a fourfold coincidence detector click indicates the creation of a polarization-entangled four-photon GHZ state.

Complete Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger state analyzer using hyper-entanglement

Jiaming Wang, Meng-Zheng Zhu, Liu Ye

In this paper, we design a scheme where a polarization Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (GHZ) state can be completely and deterministically distinguished by adopting linear momentum degree of freedom as the ancillary qubits or change of roles between the momentum and polarization degrees of freedom. Two ways for distinguishing three-photon GHZ state can be achieved in just one quantum circuit.

Generation of four-photon hyperentangled state using spontaneous parametric down-conversion source with the second-order term

Ying-Qiu He, Ding Dong, Peng Tao +2 more

Nowadays, the generation of multiphoton entangled states is almost realized by combining the coupled entangled photons emitted from spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) with the first-order term.In this case, one may focus mainly on the first-order term, and then avoid multipair emission events by restricting experimental parameters. On the other hand, for the higher-order terms in SPDC source, these emitted entangled photons have interesting features. For example, they are entangled maximally not only in photon number for the spatial modes, but also in polarization degree of freedom. In general, two photons, which are entangled in two or more degrees of freedom, are called hyperentangled pair of photons or hyperentangled state. We present a scheme to generate the four-photon hyperentangled state based on four indistinguishable photons emitted from SPDC source with the second-order term.Consider two SPDC sources with equal probability of emission of photons in respective spatial modes. With the passive linear optical devices,i.e., beam splitters, half wave plates, polarizing beam splitters, etc.,under the condition of registering a specified four-photon coincidence,we can obtain the four-photon hyperentangled state in which the photons are entangled in both polarization and spatial-mode degrees of freedom. Here,of course, for an arbitrary fourfold coincidence detection, one obtains a canonical four-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state. Then we show the results of fourfold coincidence detections and the corresponding probabilities for the four-photon GHZ states, where the generation of the four-photon hyperentangled state is included as long as we are not to distinguish the two detectors located at the same locations. As a result, our scheme has two notable features. When we only consider the second-order emission, since it is not needed for us to distinguish between the two SPDC sources, the present scheme is simple and feasible. Also, based on the postselection with fourfold coincidence detection, our scheme is suitable for the normal first-order emission where we restrict the four photons emitted from the same source. In this sense, our scheme is efficient. In a word,we describe a method to generate the four-photon hyperentangled state with the second-order emission in SPDC source, which may contribute to the exploration of multipair entanglement with higher-order emissions from the SPDC source.

High efficient multipartite entanglement purification using hyperentanglement

Lan Zhou, Peishun Yan, Wei Zhong +1 more

Multipartite entanglement plays an important role in controlled quantum teleportation, quantum secret sharing, quantum metrology and some other important quantum information branches. However, the maximally multipartite entangled state will degrade into the mixed state because of the noise. We present an efficient multipartite entanglement purification protocol (EPP) which can distill the high quality entangled states from low quality entangled states for N-photon systems in a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state in only linear optics. After performing the protocol, the spatial-mode entanglement is used to purify the polarization entanglement and one pair of high quality polarization entangled state will be obtained. This EPP has several advantages. Firstly, with the same purification success probability, this EPP only requires one pair of multipartite GHZ state, while existing EPPs usually require two pairs of multipartite GHZ state. Secondly, if consider the practical transmission and detector efficiency, this EPP may be extremely useful for the ratio of purification efficiency is increased rapidly with both the number of photons and the transmission distance. Thirdly, this protocol requires linear optics and does not add additional measurement operations, so that it is feasible for experiment. All these advantages will make this protocol have potential application for future quantum information processing.

Generating Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states using multiport splitters

Daniel Bhatti, Stefanie Barz

Symmetric multiport splitters are versatile tools in optical quantum information processing. They can be used for studying multiparticle scattering, for studying distinguishability and mixedness, and also for the generation of multipartite entangled quantum states. Here, we show that $N$-photon $N$-mode Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) states can be generated using symmetric multiport beam splitters. Varying the input states' internal degrees of freedom and postselecting onto certain photon-number distributions allows the probabilistic generation of GHZ states with arbitrary photon numbers. We present two schemes, one for odd and one for even numbers of photons, to generate GHZ states using symmetric multiport splitters and compare them to a strategy utilizing a $2N$-port network as well as the standard postselection method.

Quantum nondemolition measurement of two-photon Bell-state and three-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-state based on weak nonlinearities

Ding Dong, Yan Feng-Li

The scheme for quantum nondemolition measurement of two-photon Bell-state and three-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ)-state is proposed based on weak nonlinearities and linear-optics elements. We first describe a scheme of the symmetry analyzer for two-photon Bell-state by using beam splitters and cross-Kerr nonlinear medium. According to this symmetry analyzer for two-photon Bell-state and the controlled-NOT gates we construct a three-photon state analyzer which can completely and nondestructively discriminate eight three-photon GHZ states.

Preparation of km-photon concatenated Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger states for observing distinctive quantum effects at macroscopic scales

Dong Ding, Fengli Yan, Ting Gao

Multipartite concatenated Greenberger–Horne–Zeilinger (C-GHZ) states, a class of multipartite entangled states, have superior stability under the influence of decoherence. We propose two means of constructing multiphoton C-GHZ states based on entanglers of multiphoton GHZ states that are both experimentally realizable and scalable. Given a km-photon GHZ state as an input state, if m is odd, one can create a km-photon C-GHZ state. In addition, we have designed a scheme to prepare km-photon C-GHZ states from km single-photon states by using k entanglers of m-photon GHZ states and km-control Toffoli gates.
