Abstract

We explore entanglement negativity, a measure of the distillable entanglement contained in a quantum state, in relativistic field theories in various dimensions. We first give a general overview of negativity and its properties and then explain a well known result relating (logarithmic) negativity of pure quantum states to the Rényi entropy (at index 1/2), by exploiting the simple features of entanglement in thermal states. In particular, we show that the negativity of the thermofield double state is given by the free energy difference of the system at temperature T and 2 T respectively. We then use this result to compute the negativity in the vacuum state of conformal field theories in various dimensions, utilizing results that have been derived for free and holographic CFTs in the literature. We also comment upon general lessons to be learnt about negativity in holographic field theories.

Entanglement negativity, holography and black holes

Pankaj Chaturvedi, Vinay Malvimat, Gautam Sengupta

We investigate the application of our recent holographic entanglement negativity conjecture for higher dimensional conformal field theories to specific examples which serve as crucial consistency checks. In this context we compute the holographic entanglement negativity for bipartite pure and finite temperature mixed state configurations in d-dimensional conformal field theories dual to bulk pure $$AdS_{d+1}$$ geometry and $$AdS_{d+1}$$ -Schwarzschild black holes respectively. It is observed that the holographic entanglement negativity characterizes the distillable entanglement for the finite temperature mixed states through the elimination of the thermal contributions. Significantly our examples correctly reproduce universal features of the entanglement negativity for corresponding two dimensional conformal field theories, in higher dimensions.

Derivation of Holographic Negativity in AdS 3 / CFT 2

Yuya Kusuki, Jonah Kudler-Flam, Shinsei Ryu

We present a derivation of the holographic dual of logarithmic negativity in AdS_{3}/CFT_{2} that was recently conjectured in Phys. Rev. D 99, 106014 (2019PRVDAQ2470-001010.1103/PhysRevD.99.106014). This is given by the area of an extremal cosmic brane that terminates on the boundary of the entanglement wedge. The derivation consists of relating the recently introduced Rényi reflected entropy to the logarithmic negativity in holographic conformal field theories. Furthermore, we clarify previously mysterious aspects of negativity at a large central charge seen in conformal blocks and comment on generalizations to generic dimensions, dynamical settings, and quantum corrections.

Universal corner contributions to entanglement negativity

Keun-young Kim A, Chao Niu, Da-Wei Pang

It has been realised that corners in entangling surfaces can induce new universal contributions to the entanglement entropy and Rényi entropy. In this paper we study universal corner contributions to entanglement negativity in three- and four-dimensional CFTs using both field theory and holographic techniques. We focus on the quantity χ defined by the ratio of the universal part of the entanglement negativity over that of the entanglement entropy, which may characterise the amount of distillable entanglement. We find that for most of the examples χ takes bigger values for singular entangling regions, which may suggest increase in distillable entanglement. However, there also exist counterexamples where distillable entanglement decreases for singular surfaces. We also explore the behaviour of χ as the coupling varies and observe that for singular entangling surfaces, the amount of distillable entanglement is mostly largest for free theories, while counterexample exists for free Dirac fermion in three dimensions. For holographic CFTs described by higher derivative gravity, χ may increase or decrease, depending on the sign of the relevant parameters. Our results may reveal a more profound connection between geometry and distillable entanglement.

Holographic quantum entanglement negativity

Pankaj Chaturvedi, Vinay Malvimat, Gautam Sengupta

Abstract We advance a holographic conjecture for the entanglement negativity of bipartite quantum states in (1 + 1)-dimensional conformal field theories in the AdS 3 /CF T 2 framework. Our conjecture exactly reproduces the replica technique results in the large central charge limit, for both the pure state described by the CF T 1+1 vacuum dual to bulk the pure AdS 3 geometry and the finite temperature mixed state dual to a Euclidean BTZ black hole respectively. The holographic entanglement negativity characterizes the distillable entanglement and reduces to a specific sum of holographic mutual informations. We briefly allude to a possible higher dimensional generalization of our conjecture in a generic AdS d+1 /CF T d scenario.

Entanglement negativity and minimal entanglement wedge cross sections in holographic theories

Jonah Kudler-Flam, Shinsei Ryu

We calculate logarithmic negativity, a quantum entanglement measure for mixed quantum states, in quantum error-correcting codes and find it to equal the minimal cross sectional area of the entanglement wedge in holographic codes with a quantum correction term equal to the logarithmic negativity between the bulk degrees of freedom on either side of the entanglement wedge cross section. This leads us to conjecture a holographic dual for logarithmic negativity that is related to the area of a cosmic brane with tension in the entanglement wedge plus a quantum correction term. This is closely related to (though distinct from) the holographic proposal for entanglement of purification. We check this relation for various configurations of subregions in ${\mathrm{AdS}}_{3}/{\mathrm{CFT}}_{2}$. These are disjoint intervals at zero temperature, as well as a single interval and adjacent intervals at finite temperature. We also find this prescription to effectively characterize the thermofield double state. We discuss how a deformation of a spherical entangling region complicates calculations and speculate how to generalize to a covariant description.
