A parafermionic generalization of the Jaynes–Cummings model

Abstract

We introduce a parafermionic version of the Jaynes–Cummings Hamiltonian, by coupling k Fock parafermions (nilpotent of order F ) to a 1D harmonic oscillator, representing the interaction with a single mode of the electromagnetic field. We argue that for k = 1 and F ⩽ 3 there is no difference between Fock parafermions and quantum spins . We also derive a semiclassical approximation of the canonical partition function of the model by assuming ℏ to be small in the regime of the large enough total number of excitations n , where the dimension of the Hilbert space of the problem becomes constant as a function of n . We observe in this case an interesting behaviour of the average of the bosonic number operator showing a single crossover between regimes with different integer values of this observable. These features persist when we generalize the parafermionic Hamiltonian by deforming the bosonic oscillator with a generic function Φ( x ); the q -deformed bosonic oscillator corresponds to a specific choice of the deformation function Φ. In this particular case, we observe, at most k ( F − 1), crossovers in the behaviour of the mean bosonic number operator, suggesting a phenomenology of superradiance similar to the k -atoms Jaynes–Cummings model.

Underlying SUSY in a generalized Jaynes–Cummings model

We present a general qubit-boson interaction Hamiltonian that describes the Jaynes-Cummings model and its extensions as a single Hamiltonian class. Our model includes non-linear processes for both the free qubit and boson field as well as non-linear, multi-boson excitation exchange between them. It shows an underlying algebra with supersymmetric quantum mechanics features allowing an operator based diagonalization that simplifies the calculations of observables. As a practical example, we show the evolution of the population inversion and the boson quadratures for an initial state consisting of the qubit in the ground state interacting with a coherent field for a selection of cases covering the standard Jaynes-Cummings model and some of its extensions including Stark shift, Kerr-like, intensity dependent coupling, multi-boson exchange and algebraic deformations.

A two-parameter deformation of the Jaynes-Cummings model: path integral representation

R. Chakrabarti, R. Jagannathan

A two-parameter (p, q) deformation of the Jaynes-Cummings model is obtained using a recently developed (p, q)-deformed oscillator. In the rotating wave approximation (RWA) the dynamical symmetry of the model is the quantum superalgebra u p,q (1 mod 1). The partition function of the model is obtained as a path integral over generalized Perelomov coherent states corresponding to the quantum algebra U p.q (1 mod 1). The complete spectrum of the model is extracted for both the case when the coupling constants are Grassman valued and when they are c-number valued. It is noted that a relaxation of the RWA extends the dynamical symmetry to the quantum superalgebra osp p,q (2 mod 2).

Properties of a deformed Jaynes-Cummings model

J. Črnugelj, M. Martinis, Vesna Mikuta-Martinis

It is shown that various variants of the deformed Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM) correspond to the JCM with an intensity-dependent coupling characterized by two additional phenomenological parameters (p,q). The standard JCM is obtained for p=q=1. The quantum collapse and revival effects and the squeezing properties of a particular variant of the (p,q)-deformed Jaynes-Cummings model are studied numerically. The model is based on the q-deformed oscillator algebra ${\mathit{AA}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$-${\mathit{qA}}^{\mathrm{\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}}}$A=1 that interpolates between Fermi-Dirac and Bose-Einstein statistics. If the cavity field is prepared initially in a q-deformed coherent state, the quantum collapse and revival effects are observed only for q\ensuremath{\approxeq}1. For q>1, the atomic inversion 〈${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{3}$(t)〉 exhibits chaoticlike behavior, which is a feature observed also in other q-deformed JCM's. Strong squeezing is observed only for small positive and small negative q values. If q\ensuremath{\approxeq}1, the squeezing is very weak. In the limit q=1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}\ensuremath{\varepsilon} with \ensuremath{\varepsilon}\ensuremath{\ll}1, the algebra can be interpreted as describing a small violation of Bose-Einstein statistics in the JCM.

The f-deformed Jaynes–Cummings model and its nonlinear coherent states

O de los Santos-Sánchez, J. Récamier

Based on the f-oscillator formalism, we introduce a nonlinear Jaynes–Cummings model (NJCM) which is constructed from the standard JCM by deforming the single-mode field operators. Such a generalization of the JCM describes the interaction of a two-level atom with a single mode of the electromagnetic field in the presence of a nonlinear Kerr-like medium. Since the medium is modelled as an f-oscillator, it is possible to consider the field f-coherent states (nonlinear coherent states) and their evolution.

Non-Hermitian Hamiltonian for a modulated Jaynes-Cummings model with PT symmetry

Fabio Bagarello, Margherita Lattuca, Roberto Passante +2 more

We consider a two-level system such as a two-level atom, interacting with a cavity field mode in the rotating wave approximation, when the atomic transition frequency or the field mode frequency is periodically driven in time. We show that in both cases, for an appropriate choice of the modulation parameters, the state amplitudes in a generic $n$-excitation subspace obey the same equations of motion that can be obtained from a static non-Hermitian Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian with $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetry, that is with an imaginary coupling constant. This gives further support to recent results showing the possible physical interest of $\mathcal{PT}$ symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. We also generalize the well-known diagonalization of the Jaynes-Cummings Hamiltonian to the non-Hermitian case in terms of pseudobosons and pseudofermions, and discuss relevant mathematical and physical aspects.

Quantum algebra as the dynamical symmetry of the deformed Jaynes-Cummings model

Масуд Чайчиан, Demosthenes Ellinas, P. P. Kulish

The q-deformations of the quantum harmonic oscillator are used for to describe the generalized Jaynes-Cummings model (JCM) by using the q-analog of the Holstein-Primakoff realization of the su(1,1). The corresponding dynamical symmetry is described by a quantum algebra. The q-analogs of the Barut-Girardello and the Perelomov coherent states are introduced and the expectation value of ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\sigma}}}_{3}$ is calculated. The periodic revivals of the generalized JCM are destroyed for increasing deformation parameter q. The deformed original JCM in the rotating-wave approximation can be described by the u(1\ensuremath{\Vert}1${)}_{\mathit{q}}$, while its relaxation extends the dynamical algebra to the osp(2\ensuremath{\Vert}2${)}_{\mathit{q}}$ quantum superalgebra.
