Dynamics of entanglement between two harmonic modes in stable and unstable regimes

Abstract

The exact dynamics of the entanglement between two harmonic modes generated by an angular momentum coupling is examined. Such a system arises when considering a particle in a rotating anisotropic harmonic trap or a charged particle in a fixed harmonic potential in a magnetic field, and it exhibits a rich dynamical structure, with stable, unstable, and critical regimes according to the values of the rotational frequency or field and trap parameters. Consequently, it is shown that the entanglement generated from an initially separable Gaussian state can exhibit quite distinct evolutions, ranging from quasiperiodic behavior in stable sectors to different types of unbounded increase in critical and unstable regions. The latter lead, respectively, to logarithmic and linear growth of the entanglement entropy with time. It is also shown that entanglement can be controlled by tuning the frequency, such that it can be increased, kept constant, or returned to a vanishing value with just stepwise frequency variations. Exact asymptotic expressions for the entanglement entropy in the different dynamical regimes are provided.

Entanglement of two harmonic modes coupled by angular momentum

Lorena Rebón, R. Rossignoli

We examine the entanglement induced by an angular momentum coupling between two harmonic systems. The Hamiltonian corresponds to that of a charged particle in a uniform magnetic field in an anisotropic quadratic potential or, equivalently, to that of a particle in a rotating quadratic potential. We analyze both the vacuum and thermal entanglement, thereby obtaining analytic expressions for the entanglement entropy and negativity through the Gaussian state formalism. It is shown that vacuum entanglement diverges at the edges of the dynamically stable sectors, increasing with the angular momentum and saturating for strong fields, whereas at finite temperature entanglement is nonzero just within a finite field or frequency window and no longer diverges. Moreover, the limit temperature for entanglement is finite in the whole stable domain. The thermal behavior of the Gaussian quantum discord and its difference from the negativity is also discussed.

Nonlinear effects on the dynamics of quantum harmonic modes coupled through angular momentum

N. Canosa, R. Rossignoli, Javier Gonzalo Garcia +2 more

Abstract We investigate nonlinear effects on the dynamics of entanglement and other quantum observables in a system of two harmonic modes coupled through angular momentum. The nonlinearity arises from a Kerr-type anharmonic term in each mode. The emergence and evolution of entanglement, non-Gaussianity, photon number, photon antibunching and squeezing are examined for different initial coherent product states and couplings, through exact diagonalization in a truncated basis. It is shown that the anharmonic terms, even if weak, can lead to very significant effects for such initial states, considerably enhancing and stabilizing entanglement and leading to a non negligible non-Gaussianity of the evolved states. They also affect other observables, stabilizing the dynamics after an initial transient regime, for not too small initial average populations of each mode. Analytic short-time approximate expressions are also provided.

Entanglement in a Bipartite Gaussian State

Anne Ghesquière

To examine the loss of entanglement in a two-particle Gaussian system, we couple it to an environment and use the Non-Rotating Wave master equation to study the system's dynamics. We also present a derivation of this equation. We consider two different types of evolution. Under free evolution we find that entanglement is lost quickly between the particles. When a harmonic potential is added between the particles, two very different behaviours can be observed, namely in the over and under-damped cases respectively, where the strength of the damping is determined by how large the coupling to the bath is with respect to the frequency of the potential. In the over-damped case, we find that the entanglement vanishes at even shorter times than it does in the free evolution. In the (very) under-damped case, we observe that the entanglement does not vanish. Instead it oscillates towards a stable value.

Exact dynamics and squeezing in two harmonic modes coupled through angular momentum

N. Canosa, Swapan Mandal, R. Rossignoli

Abstract We investigate the exact dynamics of a system of two independent harmonic oscillators coupled through their angular momentum. The exact analytic solution of the equations of motion for the field operators is derived, and the conditions for dynamical stability are obtained. As for the application, we examine the emergence of squeezing and mode entanglement for an arbitrary separable coherent initial state. It is shown that close to instability, the system develops considerable entanglement, which is accompanied with simultaneous squeezing in the coordinate of one oscillator and the momentum of the other oscillator. In contrast, for weak coupling away from instability, the generated entanglement is small, with weak alternating squeezing in the coordinate and momentum of each oscillator. Approximate expressions describing these regimes are also provided.

Dynamics of quantum entanglement in two time-dependent coupled harmonic oscillators

Ayoub Ghaba, Radouan Hab-arrih, Elhoussine Atmani +1 more

We investigate the quantum entanglement dynamics of two coupled harmonic oscillators with a time-dependent interaction. Using the Lewis-Riesenfeld invariant method, we derive the exact analytical wave functions without any perturbative or adiabatic approximations and combine this with a phase-space analysis using the Wigner function to provide a complete description of the system's quantum state evolution. We obtain general expression form for the purity and the linear entropy $S_L=1-\mathcal{P}$ for arbitrary excitation numbers $(n,m)$, allows a systematic study of entanglement for a large class of quantum states. We show that the entanglement dynamics is very sensitive to the interplay between the detuning parameters $θ$ and $\vartheta_2$, the frequency parameter $β_0$ and the coupling strength $ε$: the increase of detuning takes the system from slow irregular oscillations to fast and regular periodic behavior, and the stronger coupling systematically enhances both the amplitude and the average value of the linear entropy. Most importantly, for the resonance case $ω_1=ω_2=1$ and strong couplings $ε\approx 0.99$, the system shows robust undamped synchronized periodic oscillations of the linear entropy for all quantum states considered, indicating preserved quantum coherence without saturation. Our findings demonstrate that linear entropy is a sensitive and practical entanglement witness, and we establish explicit analytical relations between the coupling parameters of the system and its entanglement properties, which are directly relevant to quantum information processing and the control of quantum correlations in continuous-variable systems.

Entanglement dynamics in short- and long-range harmonic oscillators

M. Ghasemi Nezhadhaghighi, M. A. Rajabpour

We study the time evolution of the entanglement entropy in the short- and long-range-coupled harmonic oscillators that have well-defined continuum limit field theories. We first introduce a method to calculate the entanglement evolution in generic coupled harmonic oscillators after quantum quench. Then we study the entanglement evolution after quantum quench in harmonic systems in which the couplings decay effectively as $1/{r}^{d+\ensuremath{\alpha}}$ with the distance $r$. After quenching the mass from a nonzero value to zero we calculate numerically the time evolution of von Neumann and R\'enyi entropies. We show that for $1<\ensuremath{\alpha}<2$ we have a linear growth of entanglement and then saturation independent of the initial state. For $0<\ensuremath{\alpha}<1$ depending on the initial state we can have logarithmic growth or just fluctuation of entanglement. We also calculate the mutual information dynamics of two separated individual harmonic oscillators. Our findings suggest that in our system there is no particular connection between having a linear growth of entanglement after quantum quench and having a maximum group velocity or generalized Lieb-Robinson bound.
