Abstract

We present formulas to tightly upper bound the phase-flip errors in decoy state method by using 4 intensities. Our result compressed the bound to about a quarter of known result for MDI-QKD. Based on this, we find that the key rate is improved by more than $100\%$ given weak coherent state sources (WCS), and even more than $200\%$ with the heralded single-photon sources (HSPS).

Decoy-state theory for the heralded single-photon source with intensity fluctuations

Shuang Wang, ShengLi Zhang, Hong-Wei Li +5 more

The secure key rates of decoy-state quantum key distribution (QKD) using the heralded single-photon source (HSPS) are recalculated in the case of intensity fluctuations. By numerical simulations, we show that the HSPS is a good source for decoy-state QKD experiments not only because it has larger upper bound of transmission distance than the usual weak-coherent source (WCS) but also because it is more robust against intensity fluctuations than the WCS.

Three-intensity decoy-state method for measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution

Zong‐Wen Yu, Yi-Heng Zhou, Xiang‐Bin Wang

We study the measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) in practice with limited resources, when there are only three different states in implementing the decoy-state method. We present a tighter explicit formula to estimate the lower bound of the yield of two-single-photon pulses sent by Alice and Bob. Moreover, we show that the bounding of this yield and phase flip error of single-photon pulse pairs can be further improved by using other constraints which can be solved by a simple and explicit program. Our methods here can significantly improve the key rate and the secure distance of MDI-QKD with only three intensities.

Obtaining better performance in the measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution with heralded single-photon sources

Xingyu Zhou, Chunhui Zhang, Chun-Mei Zhang +1 more

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (MDI-QKD) has been widely investigated due to its remarkable advantages on the achievable transmission distance and practical security. However, the relative low key generation rate limits its real-life implementations. In this work, we adopt the newly proposed four-intensity decoy-state scheme [Phys. Rev. A 93, 042324 (2016)] to study the performance of MDI-QKD with heralded single-photon sources (HSPS). Corresponding simulation results demonstrate that the four-intensity decoy-state scheme combining HSPS can drastically improve both the key generation rate and transmission distance in MDI-QKD, which may be very promising in future MDI-QKD systems.

Decoy-state quantum key distribution with more than three types of photon intensity pulses

H. F. Chau

The decoy-state method closes source security loopholes in quantum key distribution (QKD) using a laser source. In this method, accurate estimates of the detection rates of vacuum and single-photon events plus the error rate of single-photon events are needed to give a good enough lower bound of the secret key rate. Nonetheless, the current estimation method for these detection and error rates, which uses three types of photon intensities, is accurate up to about $1%$ relative error. Here I report an experimentally feasible way that greatly improves these estimates and hence increases the one-way key rate of the BB84 QKD protocol with unbiased bases selection by at least 20% on average in realistic settings. The major tricks are the use of more than three types of photon intensities plus the fact that estimating bounds of the above detection and error rates is numerically stable, although these bounds are related to the inversion of a high condition number matrix.

Improving the Performance of Practical Decoy-State Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Key Distribution with Biased Basis Choice*

Chunhui Zhang, Chun-Mei Zhang, Qin Wang

Abstract Statistical fluctuations are unavoidable in realistic quantum key distribution (QKD) due to finite-size effect. Based on the four-intensity proposal on measurement-device-independent QKD (MDI-QKD) in [Phys. Rev. A 93 (2016) 042324], we particularly analyze the scenario that only three intensities are used, namely a three-intensity decoy-state MDI-QKD with biased basis choice. After performing full parameter optimization method, simulations results demonstrate that this scenario can obtain distinct enhancement compared with the conventional unbiased three-intensity decoy-state method, e.g. Xu et al.’s [Phys. Rev. A 89 (2014) 052333]. Furthermore, results also show that it works more efficiently by using HSPS than using WCS at longer transmission distance.
