Evolution of physical observables and entropy in laser process studied on the basis of Kraus-form solution of laser's master equation

Abstract

Though laser physics began at 1960s, its entropy evolution has not been touched until very recently the Kraus-form solution of laser's master equation is reported (Ann. Phys. 334 (2013)). We study the new physics based on the discovery in this paper. We analyze time evolution of physical observables and quantum optical properties in the laser process with arbitrary initial states, such as the photon number, the second degree of coherence, etc. The evolution of entropy of these states is also studied. Our results well conform with the known behaviour of laser, which confirms that the master equation describes laser suitably, and the Kraus-form operator solution is correct, elegant and useful.

Evolution of the chaotic field in the laser process: evolution law of density operator and photon number decay

Nian-Quan Jiang, Hong-Yi Fan, Liyun Hu

Based on the Kraus operator of laser theory which we derived in [2] and by virtue of the technique of integration within ordered product of operators we exactly calculate the evolving result of a chaotic field, governed by the master equation describing the laser process, we find that the initial density operator evolves into a new chaotic field, with where g and κ represent the cavity gain and loss of the laser, respectively. When g = 0, the system reduces to an amplitude dissipative channel, and f' becomes −ln [(e−f − 1) e2κt + 1]. The law of photon number decay in this process is evaluated, and the corresponding Wigner function's evolution is also demonstrated.

Evolution of the photon-added coherent state in a laser channel

Jun Zhou, Jun Song, Hao Yuan +1 more

We investigate the time evolution of a quantum state in the laser channel with cavity gain coefficient g and loss coefficient κ by virtue of the thermo entangled state representation. This is a new approach for solving master equations. We exactly calculate the evolving result of the photon-added coherent state (PACS) governed by the master equation describing the laser process, and the normal ordered form of the density operator in the laser channel is derived, based on which we calculate the Wigner function analytically and graphically. The corresponding law of the PACS evolution in the laser channel is evaluated.

New solution to quantum master equation for diffusion

F. Gao, Heng Fan, Feng Shuang +1 more

Based on the Kraus-form solution to the master equation describing diffusion we develop an integral form solution by using the method of integration within ordered product of operators, i.e., the evolution law of density operator in diffusion channel can be considered as an integration transformation from an input to its output density operator. It brings much convenience for obtaining the time evolution law in the diffusion process via this formalism.

Evolution of the number state in laser process

Fu-Yi You, Junhua Chen, Hong-Yi Fan +1 more

We investigate systematically the evolution of the number state in a laser process by deriving the analytic expression of the density operator and putting it into a normal ordered form. The eigenvalue of the density operator is related to Jacobi polynomials. Then we derive the expression for the mean photon number, the second degree of coherence, the entropy, Wigner function and the photoncount distribution. The nonclassicality is discussed by virtue of the negativity of Wigner function. It is found that the Wigner function is always negative for t < t0, which is independent on the parameter m. On the other hand, the condition for the second degree of coherence larger than 1 is dependent on the parameter m.

New Approach for Solving Master Equations in Quantum Optics and Quantum Statistics by Virtue of Thermo-Entangled State Representation

Fan Hong‐Yi, Liyun Hu

By introducing a fictitious mode to be a counterpart mode of the system mode under review we introduce the entangled state representation ?|, which can arrange master equations of density operators ?(t) in quantum statistics as state-vector evolution equations due to the elegant properties of ?|. In this way many master equations (respectively describing damping oscillator, laser, phase sensitive, and phase diffusion processes with different initial density operators) can be concisely solved. Specially, for a damping process characteristic of the decay constant ? we find that the matrix element of ?(t) at time t in ?| representation is proportional to that of the initial ?0 in the decayed entangled state ?e??t| representation, accompanying with a Gaussian damping factor. Thus we have a new insight about the nature of the dissipative process. We also set up the so-called thermo-entangled state representation of density operators, ? = ?(d2?/?)?|?D(?), which is different from all the previous known representations.
