Abstract

We study ground-state correlation functions in one- and two-dimensional lattice models of interacting spinful fermions - BCS-like models, which exhibit continuous quantum phase transitions. The considered models originate from a two-dimensional model of d-wave superconductivity proposed by Sachdev. Due to the exact diagonalizability of the considered models in any dimensionality, exact phase diagrams, with several kinds of quantum-critical points, are constructed and closed-form analytic expressions for two-point correlation functions are obtained. In one- and two-dimensional cases we provide analytic expressions for the asymptotic behavior of those correlation functions at large distances and in neighborhoods of quantum-critical points. The novelty of our results is that in two-dimensions explicit expressions for direction-dependent correlation lengths in terms of model parameters and the values of direction-dependent universal critical indices $ν$, that characterize the divergence of correlation lengths on approaching critical points, are determined. Moreover, specific scaling properties of correlation functions with respect to parameters of underlying Hamiltonians are revealed. Besides enriching the knowledge of properties of lattice fermion systems exhibiting continuous quantum phase transitions, especially in two dimensions, our results open new possibilities of testing unconventional methods of studying quantum phase transitions, as the promising fidelity approach or the entanglement approach, beyond one-dimension and beyond the realm of paradigmatic XY and Ising chains in transverse magnetic fields.

Quantum critical scaling of fidelity in BCS-like model

Mariusz Adamski, Janusz Jȩdrzejewski, Taras Krokhmalskii

We study scaling of the ground-state fidelity in neighborhoods of quantum critical points in a model of interacting spinfull fermions - a BCS-like model. Due to the exact diagonalizability of the model, in one and higher dimensions, scaling of the ground-state fidelity can be analyzed numerically with great accuracy, not only for small systems but also for macroscopic ones, together with the crossover region between them. Additionally, in one-dimensional case we have been able to derive a number of analytical formulae for fidelity and show that they accurately fit our numerical results; these results are reported in the article. Besides regular critical points and their neighborhoods, where well-known scaling laws are obeyed, there is the multi-critical point and critical points in its proximity where anomalous scaling behavior is found. We consider also scaling of fidelity in neighborhoods of critical points where fidelity oscillates strongly as the system size or the chemical potential is varied. Our results for a one-dimensional version of a BCS-like model are compared with those obtained by Rams and Damski in similar studies of a quantum spin chain - an anisotropic XY model in transverse magnetic field.

Phase transition and thermodynamics of quantumXYmodel in two dimensions

Hong Q. Ding

The two-dimensional spin-1/2 XY model is investigated via an extensive quantum Monte Carlo simulation on square lattices as large as 128\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}128. The transverse susceptibility and correlation length show precise thermodynamic scaling behaviors of a phase transition of the Kosterlitz-Thouless type at ${\mathit{kT}}_{\mathit{c}}$/J=0.353(3). The correlation functions near the transition point exhibit a universal scaling behavior. Various critical exponents are determined and our results demonstrate that the universality class of the two-dimensional quantum system with continuous symmetry is the same as its classical analog. The specific heat exhibits a finite peak around kT/J=0.45, decreases very rapidly near ${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{c}}$, and falls off as ${\mathit{T}}^{2}$ near T=0, validating the spin-wave treatment. The ground-state energy is -0.5543(1)J per spin.

Thermal Ising transitions in the vicinity of two-dimensional quantum critical points

Stephan Heßelmann, Stefan Weßel

The scaling of the transition temperature into an ordered phase close to a quantum critical point as well as the order parameter fluctuations inside the quantum critical region provide valuable information about universal properties of the underlying quantum critical point. Here, we employ quantum Monte Carlo simulations to examine these relations in detail for two-dimensional quantum systems that exhibit a finite-temperature Ising-transition line in the vicinity of a quantum critical point that belongs to the universality class of either (i) the three-dimensional Ising model for the case of the quantum Ising model in a transverse magnetic field on the square lattice or (ii) the chiral Ising transition for the case of a half-filled system of spinless fermions on the honeycomb lattice with nearest-neighbor repulsion. While the first case allows large-scale simulations to assess the scaling predictions to a high precision in terms of the known values for the critical exponents at the quantum critical point, for the later case, we extract values of the critical exponents $\ensuremath{\nu}$ and $\ensuremath{\eta}$, related to the order parameter fluctuations, which we discuss in relation to other recent estimates from ground-state quantum Monte Carlo calculations as well as analytical approaches.

Behavior of quantum coherence in quantum phase transitions of two-dimensional XY and ising models

Narjes Taghadomi, Azam Mani, Ali Bakouei

Abstract We investigate the quantum coherence behavior of the ground states of 2D Heisenberg XY model and 2D Ising model with a transverse field on square lattices using the Quantum Renormalization Group (QRG) method. Our analysis focused on the ground state density matrix and its marginal states, revealing non-analytic behavior of quantum coherence (especially two-site coherence) near the critical point. This behavior allowed us to detect quantum phase transitions (QPT) in these models. By examining the scaling behavior of the maximum derivative of quantum coherence with system size, we determined the critical exponent of coherence for both models and the length exponent of the Ising model. Additionally, we investigated the time evolution of coherence in both models. Our results closely align with those obtained from entanglement analysis, that is while quantum coherence requires fewer computational calculations compared to discord and entanglement approaches.

Quantum critical properties of non-Hermitian XY models with magnetic field

Jia-Jia Luo, Volker Meden

The characterization of the quantum critical properties of genuine non-Hermitian many-body systems remains ambiguous as neither the state considered nor the definition of expectation values is unique. In this work, we investigate the quantum critical properties of two models of non-Hermitian XY spin chains with magnetic field. Using exact solutions, we systematically investigate the parameter dependence of the energy, the magnetization as well as the long-distance asymptotic behavior of static correlation functions. We compute expectation values within the standard formalism of quantum mechanics as well as within biorthogonal quantum mechanics and take two different states which one might reasonably consider to be the analog of the ground state of a Hermitian model. The critical properties, including such fundamental characteristics as the phase diagram, depend on both the formalism used as well as the state considered. We provide arguments in favor of the use of standard quantum mechanics. Which state to be taken in computations, depends on the (hypothetical) experimental preparation of the system.
