Abstract

Entangled coherent states are useful for various applications in quantum information processing, but they are sensitive to loss. We propose a scheme to generate distributed entangled coherent states over a lossy environment in such a way that the fidelity is independent of the losses at detectors heralding the generation of the entanglement. We compare our scheme with a previous one for the same purpose [Ourjoumtsev et al., Nat. Phys. 5, 189 (2009)] and find parameters for which our scheme results in superior performance.

Tight bound on coherent-state-based entanglement generation over lossy channels

Koji Azuma, Naoya Sota, Masato Koashi +1 more

The first stage of the hybrid quantum repeaters is entanglement generation based on transmission of pulses in coherent states over a lossy channel. Protocols to make entanglement with only one type of error are favorable for rendering subsequent entanglement distillation efficient. Here we provide the tight upper bound on performances of these protocols that is determined only by the channel loss. In addition, we show that this bound is achievable by utilizing a proposed protocol [K. Azuma, N. Sota, R. Namiki, \ifmmode \mbox{\c{S}}\else \c{S}\fi{}. K. \"Ozdemir, T. Yamamoto, M. Koashi, and N. Entanglement generation with coherent states using cross-Kerr nonlinearity

Si Yu Song, Shuhao Wang, Guo Fu Xu +1 more

We propose methods for generating Bell-type entangled coherent states for quantum information processing. The protocols are completed using linear optical elements, single-photon detectors, and cross-Kerr nonlinearity. We investigate the decoherence effect on our protocols; photon loss is found to affect only the probability, not the fidelity, of the generation process. The entanglement of the generated entangled states is also analyzed using concurrence. Finally, the feasibility of our scheme is discussed using the continuous-time cross-phase modulation model. In the weak nonlinearity region, on the condition that θ2|αp|2∼1, θ≪1, and σ2≪1, our scheme is applicable theoretically.

Entangled-state generation with an intrinsically pure single-photon source and a weak coherent source

Rui‐Bo Jin, Ryōsuke Shimizu, Fumihiro Kaneda +3 more

We report on the experimental generation of an entangled state with a spectrally pure heralded single-photon state and a weak coherent state. Our source, which was as efficient as that reported in our previous report [Phys. Rev. A 83, 031805 (2011)], was much brighter than those reported in earlier experiments using similar configurations. This entanglement system is useful for quantum information protocols that require indistinguishable photons from independent sources.

We give an analytical result for the quantum Fisher information of entangled coherent States in a lossy Mach-Zehnder Interferometer recently proposed by J. Joo et al. [Phys. Rev. Furthermore, The formalism developed here is applicable to the study of phase sensitivity of multipartite entangled coherent states.
