Quantum Fisher information for states in exponential form

Abstract

We derive explicit expressions for the quantum Fisher information and the symmetric logarithmic derivative (SLD) of a quantum state in the exponential form $\ensuremath{\rho}=exp(G)$; the SLD is expressed in terms of the generator $G$. Applications include quantum-metrology problems with Gaussian states and general thermal states. Specifically, we give the SLD for a Gaussian state in two forms, in terms of its generator and its moments; the Fisher information is also calculated for both forms. Special cases are discussed, including pure, degenerate, and very noisy Gaussian states.

Symmetric Logarithmic Derivative of Fermionic Gaussian States

Angelo C. M. Carollo, Bernardo Spagnolo, Davide Valenti

In this article, we derive a closed form expression for the symmetric logarithmic derivative of Fermionic Gaussian states. This provides a direct way of computing the quantum Fisher Information for Fermionic Gaussian states. Applications range from quantum Metrology with thermal states to non-equilibrium steady states with Fermionic many-body systems.

Quantum Fisher information and symmetric logarithmic derivative via anti-commutators

Jing Liu, Jie Chen, Xiao-Xing Jing +1 more

Abstract The symmetric logarithmic derivative (SLD) is a key quantity to obtain quantum Fisher information (QFI) and to construct the corresponding optimal measurements. Here we develop a method to calculate the SLD and QFI via anti-commutators. This method has originated from the Lyapunov representation and would be very useful for cases where the anti-commutators among the state and its partial derivative exhibit periodic properties. As an application, we discuss a class of states whose squares linearly depend on the states themselves, and give the corresponding analytical expressions of SLD and QFI. A noisy scenario of this class of states is also considered and discussed. Finally, we readily apply the method to the block-diagonal states and the multi-parameter estimation scenarios.

Phase space formalism for quantum estimation of Gaussian states

Alex Monràs

We formulate, with full generality, the asymptotic estimation theory for Gaussian states in terms of their first and second moments. By expressing the quantum Fisher information (QFI) and the elusive symmetric logarithmic derivative (SLD) in terms of the state's moments (and their derivatives) we are able to obtain the noncommutative extension of the well known expression for the Fisher information of a Gaussian probability distribution. Focusing on models with fixed first moments and identical Williamson 'diagonal' states --which include pure state models--, we obtain their SLD and QFI, and elucidate what features of the Wigner function are fundamentally accessible, and at what rates. In addition, we find the optimal homodyne detection scheme for all such models, and show that for pure state models they attain the fundamental limit.

Estimation of Gaussian quantum states

Dominik Šafránek

Abstract We derive several expressions for the quantum Fisher information matrix (QFIM) for the multi-parameter estimation of multi-mode Gaussian quantum states, the corresponding symmetric logarithmic derivatives, and conditions for saturability of the quantum Cramér–Rao bound. This bound determines the ultimate precision with which parameters encoded into quantum states can be estimated. We include expressions for mixed states, for the case when the Williamson decomposition of the covariance matrix is known, expressions in terms of infinite series, and expressions for pure states. We also discuss problematic behavior when some modes are pure, and present a method that allows the use of expressions that are defined only for mixed states, to compute QFIM for states with any number of pure modes.

Extended convexity of quantum Fisher information in quantum metrology

S. Alipour, A. T. Rezakhani

We prove an extended convexity for quantum Fisher information of a mixed state with a given convex decomposition. This convexity introduces a bound which has two parts: (i) The classical part associated with the Fisher information of the probability distribution of the states contributing to the decomposition, and (ii) the quantum part given by the average quantum Fisher information of the states in this decomposition. Next we use a non-Hermitian extension of a symmetric logarithmic derivative in order to obtain another upper bound on quantum Fisher information, which helps to derive a closed form for the bound in evolutions having the semigroup property. We enhance the extended convexity with this concept of a non-Hermitian symmetric logarithmic derivative (which we show is computable) to lay out a general metrology framework where the dynamics is described by a quantum channel and derive the ultimate precision limit for open-system quantum metrology. We illustrate our results and their applications through two examples where we also demonstrate how the extended convexity allows identifying a crossover between quantum and classical behaviors for metrology.

Multiparameter quantum estimation theory in quantum Gaussian states

Bakmou Lahcen, Mohammed Daoud A, Rachid ahl laamara

Abstract Multiparameter quantum estimation theory aims to determine simultaneously the ultimate precision of all parameters contained in the state of a given quantum system. Determining this ultimate precision depends on the quantum Fisher information matrix (QFIM) which is essential to obtaining the quantum Cramér–Rao bound. This is the main motivation of this work which concerns the computation of the analytical expression of the QFIM. Inspired by the results reported in J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 52 035304 (2019), the general formalism of the multiparameter quantum estimation theory of quantum Gaussian states in terms of their first and second moments is given. We give the analytical formulas of right logarithmic derivative and symmetric logarithmic derivative operators. Then we derive the general expressions of the corresponding quantum Fisher information matrices. We also derive an explicit expression of the condition which ensures the saturation of the quantum Cramér–Rao bound in estimating several parameters. Finally, we examine some examples to clarify the use of our results.
