Abstract

In this article, the processes of energy absorption and coherent transfer in a dimer are studied. The dimer includes two two-level pigments, donor and acceptor, where the donor is assumed to be excited by a control pulse in the time domain. We investigate the dynamics of probability that the acceptor is in the excited state and the total efficiency of energy absorption and transfer under different temporal shapes of the control pulse. Quantum concurrence of the dimer is also discussed.

Coherent excitation-energy transfer and quantum entanglement in a dimer

Jie‐Qiao Liao, Jin‐Feng Huang, Le‐Man Kuang +1 more

We study coherent energy transfer of a single excitation and quantum entanglement in a dimer, which consists of a donor and an acceptor modeled by two two-level systems. Between the donor and the acceptor, there exists a dipole-dipole interaction, which provides the physical mechanism for coherent energy transfer and entanglement generation. The donor and the acceptor couple to two independent heat baths with diagonal couplings that do not dissipate the energy of the noncoupling dimer. Special attention is paid to the effect on single-excitation energy transfer and entanglement generation of the energy detuning between the donor and the acceptor and the temperatures of the two heat baths. It is found that, the probability for single-excitation energy transfer largely depends on the energy detuning in the low temperature limit. Concretely, the positive and negative energy detunings can increase and decrease the probability at steady state, respectively. In the high temperature limit, however, the effect of the energy detuning on the probability is negligibly small. We also find that the probability is negligibly dependent on the bath temperature difference of the two heat baths. In addition, it is found that quantum entanglement can be generated in the process of coherent energy transfer. As the bath temperature increases, the generated steady-state entanglement decreases. For a given bath temperature, the steady-state entanglement decreases with the increase of the absolute value of the energy detuning.

Realistic Quantum Control of Energy Transfer in Photosynthetic Processes

Reda M. El‐Shishtawy, Robert C. Haddon, Saleh H. Al-Heniti +4 more

The occurrence of coherence phenomenon as a result of the interference of the probability amplitude terms is among the principle features of quantum mechanics concepts. Current experiments display the presence of quantum techniques whose coherence is supplied over large interval times. Specifically, photosynthetic mechanisms in light-harvesting complexes furnish oscillatory behaviors owing to quantum coherence. In this manuscript, we study the coherent quantum energy transfer for a single-excitation and nonlocal correlation in a dimer system (donor+acceptor) displayed by two-level systems (TLSs), interacting with a cavity field with a time-dependent coupling effect considering the realistic situation of coupling between each TLS and the cavity field. We analyze and explore the specific conditions which are viable with real experimental realization for the ultimate transfer of quantum energy and nonlocal quantum correlation. We show that the enhancement of the probability for a single-excitation energy transfer greatly benefits from the energy detuning, photon-number transition, classicality of the field, and the time-dependent coupling effect. We also find that the entanglement between the donor and acceptor is very sensitive to the physical parameters and it can be generated during the coherent energy transfer.

Controlling Coherence Transfer of Dimer Interacting with Independent Environments

Fang Su, Zhong‐Xiao Man

We study the coherence transfer between two pigments (donor and acceptor) of a dimer interacting with two independent environments. By means of a prior weak measurement on the donor and a post measurement, which is either a reversal measurement or a weak measurement, on the acceptor, we present a scheme to optimally control the transfer of the donor's coherence to the acceptor. We construct explicit relationships for the two measurement strengths and the evolution time, by which the coherence degree of the acceptor can approach the maximum value 0.5 at the cost of a decreased probability.

Vibration-assisted coherent excitation energy transfer in a detuning system

Xin Wang, Hao Chen, Hongrong Li

The roles of the vibration motions played in the excitation energy transfer process are studied. It is found that a strong coherent transfer in the hybrid system emerges when the detuning between the donor and the acceptor equals the intrinsic frequency of the vibrational mode, and as a result the energy can be transferred into the acceptor much effectively. Three cases of the donor and the acceptor coupling with vibrational modes are investigated respectively. We find that the quantum interference between the two different transfer channels via the vibrational modes can affects the dynamics of the system significantly.

Energy transfer and correlation dynamics in a three-quasi-spin-pigment system

Yinping Zhang, Hongrong Li, Aiping Fang +2 more

In this paper, the effects of quantum and classical correlations on the excitation energy transfer in a three-quasispin-pigment system are investigated. We first study the dependence of the energy transfer efficiency on various initial correlations of the donor pigments, and find that the initial concurrence is crucial to the efficiency no matter whether the initial states are pure or mixed. We then demonstrate the dynamics of correlations of the system and observe the appearance of sudden death of quantum correlations in the donor pigments. The relation between the energy transfer efficiency and the dynamics of correlations in the donor pigments is also discussed.

Theoretical Study of Quantum Entanglement Dynamics in a Photosynthetic Dimer System

Maryam Saberi, R. Roknizadeh, M. Bagheri Harouni

In this paper, a new analytical approach for the dynamics of excitation energy transfer and quantum entanglement in a photosynthetic dimer system is presented. In this approach, the protein environment is investigated as a phonon bath and the coherent representation is investigated to display of their states. The exact analytical expressions for the population of two pigments and their quantum entanglement is obtained. It is shown that numerical results have a good matching with the experimental results for both limits of weak and strong electronic coupling at cryogenic and physiological temperatures.
