Nonlinear-dissipation-induced entanglement of coupled nonlinear oscillators

Abstract

The quantum dynamics of two weakly coupled nonlinear oscillators is analytically and numerically investigated in the context of nonlinear dissipation. The latter facilitates the creation and preservation of nonclassical steady states. Starting from a microscopic description of two oscillators individually interacting with their dissipative environments, it is found that in addition to energy relaxation, dephasing arises due to the mutual coupling. Using the negativity as an entanglement measure, it is shown that the coupling entangles the oscillators in the long-time limit. For finite temperatures, entanglement sudden death and rebirth are observed.

Sudden death of entanglement and its rebirth in a system of two nonlinear oscillators

A. Kowalewska-Kudłaszyk, W. Leoński

The problem of generating a sudden death and sudden birth of entanglement in a system of two nonlinear oscillators interacting with an external reservoir is presented. The physical mechanism needed for observing these phenomena is indicated. It is found that an external driving field (coupling to one of the nonlinear oscillator modes) can be responsible for entanglement return to the system considered.

Quantum Decoherence and Entanglement Induced by Nonlinear Dissipative Environment

H. A. Hessian

The analytical description of the dynamics of a nonlinear atom-field system described by a diagonal f -deformed Jaynes-Cummings model for a chosen initial state is obtained. The purity loss of the global system, and the atomic and field subsystems are discussed. Information on entanglement between the field and matter is studied by comparing the results for mutual entropy, which is a measure of the total correlation, and the negativity as a measure of the amount of entanglement. It is found that the nonlinearity of the dissipation tends to accelerate the decoherence of the global, field, and atomic states. In addition, we find that the so-called entanglement sudden death can occur when both of the nonlinearity couplings between the cavity field and the dissipation are combined. Subject Index: 061

Multi Quanta Relaxation and Nonclassicality of Nonlinear Oscillators

Aurora Voje

The focus of the study is the free quantum evolution of Duffing oscillators which are nonlinearly coupled to bosonic environments. The work evolves from a particular system of an undamped, nonlinear graphene resonator mode to a more generalized framework of oscillator modes interacting with two different configurations of bosonic environments. In a model with no dissipation, the nonlinear Duffing oscillator allows an initial coherent state to evolve into a macroscopic superposition state, a Schrödinger Cat state. By further subjecting a Duffing mode to nonlinear damping, the parity conservation due to the two-quanta system-bath exchange, brings the system to a nonclassical steady state - an equilibrium state very much different from the ground state. The quantum features of this state are analysed for temperatures above zero and in a more realistic scenario where the interplay of linear and nonlinear decay is taken into account. The scope of the study is then extended to bipartite systems of nonlinear interacting oscillators, each nonlinearly coupled to a bosonic environment. The generation of entanglement in initially separable states and entanglement's asymptotic behaviour are investigated. One of the outcomes is the Duffing nonlinearity not affecting the entanglement asymptote. Therefore, finally a bipartite system of harmonic oscillators, with nonlinear system-bath coupling is initiated with entangled, squeezed states, and the asymptotic behaviour is evaluated in the parameter space of temperature, squeezing and dissipation rate. This is done for common and individual reservoir configurations, and either zero or non-zero inter-mode coupling.

Dynamical phases for the evolution of the entanglement between two oscillators coupled to the same environment

Juan Pablo Paz, Augusto J. Roncaglia

We study the dynamics of the entanglement between two oscillators that are initially prepared in a general two-mode Gaussian state and evolve while coupled to the same environment. In a previous paper, we showed that there are three qualitatively different dynamical phases for the entanglement in the long-time limit: sudden death, sudden death and revival, and no sudden death [Paz and Roncaglia, Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 220401 (2008)]. Here we generalize and extend those results along several directions: We analyze the fate of entanglement for an environment with a general spectral density providing a complete characterization of the evolution for Ohmic, sub-Ohmic, and super-Ohmic environments. We consider two different models for the interaction between the system and the environment (one where the coupling is through position and another where the coupling is symmetric in position and momentum). Finally, we show that for nonresonant oscillators, the final entanglement is independent of the initial state and may be nonzero at very low temperatures.

Entanglement dynamics in a non-Markovian environment: An exactly solvable model

Justin H. Wilson, Benjamin M. Fregoso, Victor M. Galitski

We study the non-Markovian effects on the dynamics of entanglement in an exactly solvable model that involves two independent oscillators, each coupled to its own stochastic noise source. First, we develop Lie algebraic and functional integral methods to find an exact solution to the single-oscillator problem which includes an analytic expression for the density matrix and the complete statistics, i.e., the probability distribution functions for observables. For long bath time correlations, we see nonmonotonic evolution of the uncertainties in observables. Further, we extend this exact solution to the two-particle problem and find the dynamics of entanglement in a subspace. We find the phenomena of ``sudden death'' and ``rebirth'' of entanglement. Interestingly, all memory effects enter via the functional form of the energy and hence the time of death and rebirth is controlled by the amount of noisy energy added into each oscillator. If this energy increases above (decreases below) a threshold, we obtain sudden death (rebirth) of entanglement.

Quantum entanglement of anharmonic oscillators

Chaitanya S. Joshi, M. Jonson, Erika Andersson +1 more

We investigate the quantum entanglement dynamics of undriven anharmonic (nonlinear) oscillators with quartic potentials. We first consider the indirect interaction between two such nonlinear oscillators mediated by a third, linear oscillator and show that this leads to a time-varying entanglement of the oscillators, the entanglement being strongly influenced by the nonlinear oscillator dynamics. In the presence of dissipation, the role of nonlinearity is strongly manifested in the steady-state dynamics of the indirectly coupled anharmonic oscillators. We further illustrate the effect of nonlinearities by studying the coupling between an electromagnetic field in a cavity and one movable mirror which is modelled as a nonlinear oscillator. For this case, we present a full analytical treatment, which is valid in a regime where both the nonlinearity and the coupling due to radiation pressure are weak. We show that, without the need of any conditional measurements on the cavity field, the state of the movable mirror is non-classical as a result of the combined effect of the intrinsic nonlinearity and the radiation-pressure coupling. This interaction is also shown to be responsible for squeezing the movable mirror's position quadrature beyond the minimum uncertainty state even when the mirror is initially prepared in its ground state.
