Quantum advantage by weak measurements

Abstract

Weak measurements may result in extra quantity of quantumness of correlations compared with standard projective measurement on a bipartite quantum state. We show that the quantumness of correlations by weak measurements can be consumed for information encoding which is only accessible by coherent quantum interactions. Then it can be considered as a resource for quantum information processing and can quantify this quantum advantage. We conclude that weak measurements can create more valuable quantum correlation.

Discord as a quantum resource for bi-partite communication

Helen M. Chrzanowski, Mile Gu, Syed M. Assad +5 more

Coherent interactions that generate negligible entanglement can still exhibit unique quantum behaviour. This observation has motivated a search beyond entanglement for a complete description of all quantum correlations. Quantum discord is a promising candidate. Here, we experimentally demonstrate that under certain measurement constraints, discord between bipartite systems can be consumed to encode information that can only be accessed by coherent quantum interactions. The inability to access this information by any other means allows us to use discord to directly quantify this ‘quantum advantage’.

Weak measurement as a tool for characterizing coherence and quantum correlations in bipartite systems

Indrajith V.S., R. Muthuganesan, R. Sankaranarayanan

Abstract In this article, we study quantum coherence of bipartite state from the perspective of weak measurement, which generalizes the notion of coherence relative to measurement. This is being illustrated by computing coherence for the well-known Bell diagonal and Werner states. Further, we have expanded the notion of coherence to encompass correlations, exploring its connections with other quantifications of nonlocality. We have determined that this coherence measure can be perceived as a generalized version of the Wigner-Yanese skew information measure and several other nonlocal measures. As a natural extension, we introduce uncertainty relations within the context of weak measurements. Additionally, we propose a novel form of variance by considering the weak value of an observable within a comprehensive framework.

Quantum discord with weak measurement operators of quasi-Werner states based on bipartite entangled coherent states

E. Castro, Rodrigo Gómez, Celso L. Ladera +1 more

Among many applications quantum weak measurements have been shown to be important in exploring fundamental physics issues, such as the experimental violation of the Heisenberg uncertainty relation and the Hardy paradox, and have also technological implications in quantum optics, quantum metrology and quantum communications, where the precision of the measurement is as important as the precision of quantum state preparation. The theory of weak measurement can be formulated using the pre-and post-selected quantum systems, as well as using the weak measurement operator formalism. In this work, we study the quantum discord (QD) of quasi-Werner mixed states based on bipartite entangled coherent states using the weak measurements operator, instead of the projective measurement operators. We then compare the quantum discord for both kinds of measurement operators, in terms of the entanglement quality, the latter being measured using the concept of concurrence. It’s found greater quantum correlations using the weak measurement operators.

Weak measurement induced super discord can resurrect lost quantumness

Uttam Singh, Arun Kumar Pati

The projective measurement usually destroys the quantum correlation between two subsystems of a composite system, thereby making the measured state useless for any efficient quantum information processing and quantum computation task. The weak measurement acts gently on quantum system and do not force the system state to decohere completely, thus revealing the super quantum discord, which can take value more than that of the normal quantum discord. Remarkably, we prove that the super quantum discord in the post measured state is equal to the difference between the super quantum discord and the normal quantum discord in the original state. Thus, the weak measurement has the ability to resurrect the lost quantumness of any composite quantum state. This suggests a conservation law for the extra quantum correlation in any composite state. The amount of extra quantum correlation which is destroyed by the projective measurement in the original state is equal to the amount of extra quantum correlation captured by the weak measurement in the post-measured state.

Quantum Correlation Resource Recycling via Sequential Measurements: Theoretical Models and Optical Experiments

Xianzhi Huang, Liyao Zhan, Liang Li +3 more

Quantum correlation is a key resource for a variety of quantum information processing and communication tasks, the efficient utilization of which has been a longstanding concern, and it is also one of the main challenges in the application of quantum technology. In this review, we focus on the interaction between quantum measurements and quantum correlations by designing appropriate measurement strategies, specifically exploring the trade-off between information gain and disturbance degree in weak measurements to ensure that quantum correlations from the same source can be shared among multiple independent observers. We introduce the basic knowledge and classification of quantum measurements, investigate the weak measurement scenario, and show the theoretical model construction of quantum correlation recycling in the original works. We summarize the theoretical and experimental development process and the latest progress in this field. Finally, we provide an outlook for more quantum resource applications that can profit from the optimization of quantum measurement strategies.
