Abstract

The entanglement quantification and classification of multipartite quantum states are two important research fields in quantum information. In this work, we study the entanglement of arbitrary-dimensional multipartite pure states by looking at the averaged partial entropies of various bipartite partitions of the system, namely, the so-called Manhattan distance (${l}_{1}$ norm) of averaged partial entropies (MAPE), and it is proved to be an entanglement measure for pure states. We connected the MAPE with the coefficient matrices, which are important tools in entanglement classification and reexpressed the MAPE for arbitrary-dimensional multipartite pure states by the nonzero singular values of the coefficient matrices. The entanglement properties of the $n$-qubit Dicke states, arbitrary-dimensional Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states, and ${D}_{3}^{n}$ states are investigated in terms of the MAPE, and the relation between the rank of the coefficient matrix and the degree of entanglement is demonstrated for symmetric states by two examples.

Entanglement Classification of Arbitrary-Dimensional Multipartite Pure States under Stochastic Local Operations and Classical Communication via the Ranks of the Coefficient Matrices

Wang Shuhao, Yao Lu, Jianlian Cui +2 more

The coefficient matrix is an efficient tool in entanglement classification under stochastic local operation and classical communication (SLOCC). In this work, we take all the ranks of the coefficient matrices into account in the method of entanglement classification, and give the entanglement classification procedure for arbitrary-dimensional multipartite pure states under SLOCC. As a main application, we study the entanglement classification for quantum systems in the Hilbert space H = C2 ⊗ C2 ⊗ C2 ⊗ Cd in terms of the ranks of the coefficient matrices.

Observable measures of multipartite entanglement

Francois Payn, Davide Girolami

Multipartite entanglement is the premier resource for quantum technologies. Yet, its exact quantification in the laboratory is notoriously challenging, typically requiring the full knowledge of high dimensional quantum states. Here, we construct observable bounds to multipartite entanglement for systems of arbitrary size, which are functions of the local and global state purities, and correlation functions. First, we derive experimentally accessible upper and lower limits to both the bipartite entanglement of formation and the squashed entanglement of bipartite systems, by leveraging cornerstone results of quantum information theory: the entropy strong subadditivity inequality and the Koashi-Winter monogamy relation. Then, we convert them into bounds to the entanglement up to degree k for arbitrary states, and to the genuine k-partite entanglement, by employing a recently proposed method. Finally, we analytically and numerically test these results, by bounding the multipartite entanglement of several relevant states and mixtures, including the important classes of GHZ, Dicke, W states, and random pure states.

Geometric measure of entanglement and applications to bipartite and multipartite quantum states

Tzu-Chieh Wei, Paul M. Goldbart

The degree to which a pure quantum state is entangled can be characterized by the distance or angle to the nearest unentangled state. This geometric measure of entanglement, already present in a number of settings [A. Shimony, Ann. NY. Acad. Sci. 755, 675 (1995); H. Barnum and N. Linden, J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 34, 6787 (2001)], is explored for bipartite and multipartite pure and mixed states. The measure is determined analytically for arbitrary two-qubit mixed states and for generalized Werner and isotropic states, and is also applied to certain multipartite mixed states. In particular, a detailed analysis is given for arbitrary mixtures of three-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger, W, and inverted-$W$ states. Along the way, we point out connections of the geometric measure of entanglement with entanglement witnesses and with the Hartree approximation method.

Characterization of multipartite entanglement

Bo Chong

In this thesis, we discuss several aspects of the characterization of entanglement in multipartite quantum systems, including detection, classification and quantification of entanglement. First, we discuss triqubit pure entanglement and propose a special true tripartite entanglement, the mixed entanglement, besides the Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) entanglement and the W entanglement. Then, based on quantitative complementarity relations, we draw entanglement Venn diagrams for triqubit pure states with different entanglements and introduce the total tangle Tau sup(T) to quantify total entanglement of triqubit pure states by defining the union I that is equivalent to the total tangle Tau sup(T) from the mathematical point of view. The generalizations of entanglement Venn diagrams and the union I to N-qubit pure states are also discussed. Finally, based on the ranks of reduced density matrices, we discuss the separability of multiparticle arbitrary -dimensional pure and mixed states, respectively.

Classification of arbitrary-dimensional multipartite pure states under stochastic local operations and classical communication using the rank of coefficient matrix

Shuhao Wang, Yao Lu, Ming Yuan Gao +2 more

We study multipartite entanglement under stochastic local operations and classical communication (SLOCC) and propose the entanglement classification under SLOCC for arbitrary-dimensional multipartite ($n$-qudit) pure states via the rank of coefficient matrix, together with the permutation of qudits. The ranks of the coefficient matrices have been proved to be entanglement monotones. The entanglement classification of the $2 \otimes 2 \otimes 2 \otimes 4$ system is discussed in terms of the generalized method, and 22 different SLOCC families are found.
