Signature candidate of quantum chaos far from the semiclassical regime

Abstract

We numerically investigated the entanglement product in the simplest coupled kicked top model with the spin j = 1. Different from the dynamical pattern of entanglement in the semiclassical regime, two similar initial states may have discordant entanglement oscillations. A candidate of the quantum signature of this classical chaotic system was proposed. The potential antimonotonic relation between the rank correlation coefficient qualifying the concordant of two entanglement evolutions and the stationary entanglement was preliminarily revealed.

Dynamical entanglement as a signature of chaos in the semiclassical limit

M. Lombardi, A. Matzkin

The relationship between classically chaotic dynamics and the entanglement properties of the corresponding quantum system is examined in the semiclassical limit. Numerical results are computed for a modified kicked top, keeping the classical dynamics constant while investigating the entanglement for several versions of the corresponding quantum system characterized by a different value of the effective Planck constant ℏ eff. Our findings indicate that as ℏ eff → 0, the apparent signatures of classical chaos in the entanglement properties, such as characteristic oscillations in the time-dependence of the linear entropy, can also be obtained in the regular regime. These results suggest that entanglement is not a universal marker of chaotic dynamics of the corresponding classical system.

Chaos, entanglement, and decoherence in the quantum kicked top

Shohini Ghose, R. Stock, Poul Jessen +2 more

We analyze the interplay of chaos, entanglement, and decoherence in a system of qubits whose collective behavior is that of a quantum kicked top. The dynamical entanglement between a single qubit and the rest can be calculated from the mean of the collective spin operators. This allows the possibility of efficiently measuring entanglement dynamics in an experimental setting. We consider a deeply quantum regime and show that signatures of chaos are present in the dynamical entanglement for parameters accessible in an experiment that we propose using cold atoms. The evolution of the entanglement depends on the support of the initial state on regular versus chaotic Floquet eigenstates, whose phase-space distributions are concentrated on the corresponding regular or chaotic eigenstructures. We include the effect of decoherence via a realistic model and show that the signatures of chaos in the entanglement dynamics persist in the presence of decoherence. In addition, the classical chaos affects the decoherence rate itself.

Entanglement as a signature of quantum chaos

Xiaoguang Wang, Shohini Ghose, Barry C. Sanders +1 more

We explore the dynamics of entanglement in classically chaotic systems by considering a multiqubit system that behaves collectively as a spin system obeying the dynamics of the quantum kicked top. In the classical limit, the kicked top exhibits both regular and chaotic dynamics depending on the strength of the chaoticity parameter kappa in the Hamiltonian. We show that the entanglement of the multiqubit system, considered for both the bipartite and the pairwise entanglement, yields a signature of quantum chaos. Whereas bipartite entanglement is enhanced in the chaotic region, pairwise entanglement is suppressed. Furthermore, we define a time-averaged entangling power and show that this entangling power changes markedly as kappa moves the system from being predominantly regular to being predominantly chaotic, thus sharply identifying the edge of chaos. When this entangling power is averaged over all states, it yields a signature of global chaos. The qualitative behavior of this global entangling power is similar to that of the classical Lyapunov exponent.

Entanglement production in Quantized Chaotic Systems

Bandyopadhyay, J N, Lakshminarayan, A

Quantum chaos is a subject whose major goal is to identify and to investigate different quantum signatures of classical chaos. Here we study entanglement production in coupled chaotic systems as a possible quantum indicator of classical chaos. We use coupled kicked tops as a model for our extensive numerical studies. We find that, in general, presence of chaos in the system produces more entanglement. However, coupling strength between two subsystems is also very important parameter for the entanglement production. Here we show how chaos can lead to large entanglement which is universal and describable by random matrix theory (RMT). We also explain entanglement production in coupled strongly chaotic systems by deriving a formula based on RMT. This formula is valid for arbitrary coupling strengths, as well as for sufficiently long time. Here we investigate also the effect of chaos on the entanglement production for the mixed initial state. We find that many properties of the mixed state entanglement production are qualitatively similar to the pure state entanglement production. We however still lack an analytical understanding of the mixed state entanglement production in chaotic systems.

Signatures of chaos in the dynamics of quantum discord

Vaibhav Madhok, Vibhu Gupta, Denis-Alexandre Trottier +1 more

We identify signatures of chaos in the dynamics of discord in a multiqubit system collectively modelled as a quantum kicked top. The evolution of discord between any two qubits is quasiperiodic in regular regions, while in chaotic regions the quasiperiodicity is lost. As the initial wave function is varied from the regular regions to the chaotic sea, a contour plot of the time-averaged discord remarkably reproduces the structures of the classical stroboscopic map. We also find surprisingly opposite behavior of two-qubit discord versus entanglement of the two qubits as measured by the concurrence. Our results provide evidence of signatures of chaos in dynamically generated discord.

Bridging entanglement dynamics and chaos in semiclassical systems

Alessio Lerose, Silvia Pappalardi

It is widely recognized that entanglement generation and dynamical chaos are intimately related in semiclassical models via the process of decoherence. In this paper, we propose a unifying framework which directly connects the bipartite and multipartite entanglement growth to the quantifiers of classical and quantum chaos. In the semiclassical regime, the dynamics of the von Neumann entanglement entropy, the spin squeezing, the quantum Fisher information, and the out-of-time-order square commutator are governed by the divergence of nearby phase-space trajectories via the local Lyapunov spectrum, as suggested by previous conjectures in the literature. General analytical predictions are confirmed by detailed numerical calculations for two paradigmatic models, relevant in atomic and optical experiments, which exhibit a regular-to-chaotic transition: the quantum kicked top and the Dicke model.
