Abstract

We demonstrate the occurrence of free quasi-particle excitations obeying generalized exclusion statistics in a BCS model with asymmetric pair scattering. The results are derived from an exact solution of the Hamiltonian, which was obtained via the algebraic Bethe ansatz utilizing the representation theory of an underlying Yangian algebra. The free quasi-particle excitations are associated with highest weight states of the Yangian algebra, corresponding to a class of analytic solutions of the Bethe ansatz equations.

Deconfined quantum criticality and generalized exclusion statistics in a non-Hermitian BCS model

Jon Links, Amir Moghaddam, Yao-Zhong Zhang

We present a pairing Hamiltonian of the Bardeen–Cooper–Schrieffer form which exhibits two quantum critical lines of deconfined excitations. This conclusion is drawn using the exact Bethe ansatz equations of the model which admit a class of analytic solutions. The deconfined excitations obey generalized exclusion statistics. A notable property of the Hamiltonian is that it is non-Hermitian. Although it does not have a real spectrum for all choices of coupling parameters, we provide a rigorous argument to establish that real spectra occur on the critical lines. The critical lines are found to be invariant under a renormalization group map.

Cooper pairs and exclusion statistics from coupled free-fermion chains

Paul Fendley, Kareljan Schoutens

We show how to couple two free-fermion chains so that the excitations consist of Cooper pairs with zero energy, and free particles obeying (mutual) exclusion statistics. This behaviour is reminiscent of anyonic superconductivity, and of a ferromagnetic version of the Haldane–Shastry spin chain, although here the interactions are local. We solve this model using the nested Bethe ansatz, and find all the eigenstates; the Cooper pairs correspond to exact-string or '0/0' solutions of the Bethe equations. We show how the model possesses an infinite-dimensional symmetry algebra, which is a supersymmetric version of the Yangian symmetry algebra for the Haldane–Shastry model.

The exact solution of the asymmetric exclusion problem with particles of asrbitrary size: matrix product ansatz

Francisco C. Alcaraz, Matheus J. Lazo

The exact solution of the asymmetric exclusion problem and several of its generalizations is obtained by a matrix product ansatz. Due to the similarity of the master equation and the Schrodinger equation at imaginary times the solution of these problems reduces to the diagonalization of a one dimensional quantum Hamiltonian. Initially, we present the solution of the problem when an arbitrary mixture of molecules, each of then having an arbitrary size (s = 0; 1; 2; ...) in units of lattice spacing, diffuses asymmetrically on the lattice. The solution of the more general problem where we have the diffusion of particles belonging to N distinct classes of particles (c = 1; ... ; N), with hierarchical order and arbitrary sizes, is also presented. Our matrix product ansatz asserts that the amplitudes of an arbitrary eigenfunction of the associated quantum Hamiltonian can be expressed by a product of matrices. The algebraic properties of the matrices defining the ansatz depend on the particular associated Hamiltonian. The absence of contradictions in the algebraic relations defining the algebra ensures the exact integrability of the model. In the case of particles distributed in N > 2 classes, the associativity of this algebra implies the Yang-Baxter relations of the exact integrable model.

Quasi-exactly solvable models derived from the quasi-Gaudin algebra

Yuan-Harng Lee, Jon Links, Yao-Zhong Zhang

The quasi-Gaudin algebra was introduced to construct integrable systems which are only quasi-exactly solvable. Using a suitable representation of the quasi-Gaudin algebra, we obtain a class of bosonic models which exhibit this curious property. These models have the notable feature that they do not preserve U(1) symmetry, which is typically associated to a non-conservation of particle number. An exact solution for the eigenvalues within the quasi-exactly solvable sector is obtained via the algebraic Bethe ansatz formalism.

A physical interpretation for the non-Hermitian Hamiltonian

L. Jin, Z. Song

We explore a way of finding the link between a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian and a Hermitian one. Based on the analysis of Bethe ansatz solutions for a class of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians and the scattering problems for the corresponding Hermitian Hamiltonians, it is shown that a scattering state of an arbitrary Hermitian lattice embedded in a chain as the scattering center shares the same wavefunction with the corresponding non-Hermitian tight binding lattice, which consists of the Hermitian lattice with two additional on-site complex potentials, no matter whether the non-Hermitian is broken symmetry or even non- symmetry. Exactly solvable models are presented to demonstrate the main points of this paper.

Derivation of a matrix product representation for the asymmetric exclusion process from the algebraic Bethe ansatz

O. Golinelli, Kirone Mallick

We derive, using the algebraic Bethe ansatz, a generalized matrix product ansatz for the asymmetric exclusion process (ASEP) on a one-dimensional periodic lattice. In this matrix product ansatz, the components of the eigenvectors of the ASEP Markov matrix can be expressed as traces of products of non-commuting operators. We derive the relations between the operators involved and show that they generate a quadratic algebra. Our construction provides explicit finite-dimensional representations for the generators of this algebra.
