Abstract

We extend the approach in Ref. 5 [Y.-X. Liu, L. F. Wei and F. Nori, Phys. Rev. A 71 (2005) 063820] for preparing superposition states of a cavity field interacting with a superconducting charge qubit. We study effects of the nonlinearity on the creation of such states. We show that the main contribution of nonlinear effects is to shorten the time necessary to build the superposition.

Preparation of a superposition of squeezed coherent states of a cavity field via coupling to a superconducting charge qubit

Dagoberto S. Freitas

The generation of nonclassical states of a radiation field has become increasingly important in the past years given its various applications in quantum communication. It has been recently proposed a way to engineer quantum states using a SQUID charge qubit inside a cavity with a controllable interaction between the cavity field and the charge qubit. Since decoherence is known to affect quantum effects uninterruptedly and decoherence process are working even when the quantum state is being formed, therefore, is interesting to envisage processes through which quantum superpositions are generated as fast as possible. We succeed in linearizing the Hamiltonian of the system through the application of an appropriate unitary transformation and for certain values of the parameters involved, we show that it is possible to obtain specific Hamiltonians. In this work we will use this approach for preparing superposition of two squeezed coherent states.

Generation of entangled coherent states of two cavity fields via coupling to a SQUID-based charge qubit

Jie‐Qiao Liao, Le‐Man Kuang

We propose a scheme to generate entangled coherent states (ECSs) of two microwave cavity fields coupling to a SQUID-based Cooper pair box (CPB) charge qubit by extending the single-cavity model of coupling between a single microcavity and a CPB charge qubit proposed by Liu et al (2005 Phys. Rev. A 71 063820). We show that by measuring the states of the CPB charge qubit, ECSs of the two cavity fields can be generated with a controllable interaction between the cavities and the CPB charge qubit.

Measurement-induced generation of Schrödinger cat states in cavity QED

Tong Wang, Peng-Fei Wei, Hai-Jun Xing +1 more

Schrödinger cat states, representing coherent superpositions of macroscopically distinguishable states, are indispensable nonclassical resources for continuous-variable quantum information processing. Existing generation protocols typically rely on strong nonlinear interactions, complicated control techniques, or engineered dissipation, posing challenges for experimental implementation. Here, we propose a simple measurement-based protocol for generating Schrödinger cat states in a cavity-QED system by combining coherent driving, dispersive atom--cavity interactions, and atomic postselection. The atom--cavity interaction establishes coherent correlations between the atomic and photonic degrees of freedom, while the subsequent atomic postselection projects the cavity field onto a non-Gaussian superposition state with pronounced Wigner negativity. Numerical simulations based on the Lindblad master equation show that the generated Schrödinger cat states remain robust against moderate cavity dissipation. Our results demonstrate that conditional atomic measurements provide an effective and experimentally accessible approach for preparing nonclassical cavity states without relying on strong optical nonlinearities or engineered dissipation.

Preparation of a superposition of squeezed coherent states of a cavity field via coupling to a superconducting charge qubit

Dagoberto S. Freitas

The generation of nonclassical states of a radiation field has become increasingly important in the past years given its various applications in quantum communication. The feasibility of generating such nonclassical states has been established in several branches of physics such as cavity electrodynamics, trapped ions, quantum dots, atoms inside cavities and so on. In this sense, we will discuss the issue of the generation of nonclassical states in the context of a superconducting qubit in a microcavity. It has been recently proposed a way to engineer quantum states using a SQUID charge qubit inside a cavity with a controllable interaction between the cavity field and the charge qubit. The key ingredients to engineer these quantum states are a tunable gate voltage and a classical magnetic field applied to SQUID. Some models including these ingredients and using some appropriate approximations which allow for the linearization of the interaction and nonclassical states of the field were generated. Since decoherence is known to affect quantum effects uninterruptedly and decoherence process are works even when the quantum state is being formed, therefore, it is interesting to envisage processes through which quantum superpositions are generated as fast as possible. The decoherence effect has been studied and quantified in the context of cavity QED where it is shown that the more quantum is the superposition, more rapidly the environmental effects occur during the process of creating the quantum state. In the latter reference, we have succeeded in linearizing the Hamiltonian through the application of an appropriate unitary transformation and for certain values of the parameters involved, we have showed that it is possible to obtain specific Hamiltonians. In this work we will use such approach for preparing superposition of two squeezed coherent states.

Preparation of Entanglement and Schrödinger Cat States of Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices Qubits via Coupling to a Microwave Cavity

Wen‐Xing Yang

An alternative scheme is proposed for the generation of n-qubit W states of superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID) in cavity QED. In this scheme, Raman coupling of two lower flux states of SQUID system is achieved via a microwave pulse and the cavity mode. Conditioned on no photon leakage from the cavity, the n-qubit W state can be generated whether the effective coupling parameters of the SQUID to cavity mode and classical microwave fields are the same or different. Our strictly numerical simulations of the time evolution of the system including decay show that the success probability of our scheme is almost unity and the interaction time is on the order of 10 −9 s. The scheme can also be used to generate the Schrödinger cat states of multi-SQUID.
