Finite-size effects from higher conservation laws for the one-dimensional Bose gas

Abstract

We consider a generalized Lieb–Liniger model, describing a one-dimensional Bose gas with all its conservation laws appearing in the density matrix. This will be the case for the generalized Gibbs ensemble, or when the conserved charges are added to the Hamiltonian. The finite-size corrections are calculated for the energy spectrum. Large-distance asymptotics of correlation functions are then determined using methods from conformal field theory.

Interaction quenches in the one-dimensional Bose gas

Márton Kormos, Aditya Shashi, Yang-Zhi Chou +2 more

The nonequilibrium dynamics of integrable systems are highly constrained by the conservation of certain charges. There is substantial evidence that after a quantum quench they do not thermalize but their asymptotic steady state can be described by a generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE) built from the conserved charges. Most of the studies on the GGE so far have focused on models that can be mapped to quadratic systems, while analytic treatment in nonquadratic systems remained elusive. We obtain results on interaction quenches in a nonquadratic continuum system, the one-dimensional (1D) Bose gas described by the integrable Lieb-Liniger model. The direct implementation of the GGE prescription is prohibited by the divergence of the conserved charges, which we conjecture to be endemic to any continuum integrable systems with contact interactions undergoing a sudden quench. We compute local correlators for a noninteracting initial state and arbitrary final interactions as well as two-point functions for quenches to the Tonks-Girardeau regime. We show that in the long time limit integrability leads to significant deviations from the predictions of the grand canonical ensemble, allowing for an experimental verification in cold-atom systems.

Interaction quenches in the Lieb-Liniger model

Márton Kormos, Aditya Shashi, Yang-Zhi Chou +1 more

We obtain exact results on interaction quenches in the 1D Bose gas described by the integrable Lieb-Liniger model. We show that in the long time limit integrability leads to significant deviations from the predictions of the grand canonical ensemble and a description within the generalized Gibbs ensemble (GGE) is needed. For a non-interacting initial state and arbitrary final interactions, we find that the presence of infinitely many conserved charges generates a non-analytic behavior in the equilibrated density of quasimomenta. This manifests itself in a dynamically generated Friedel-like oscillation of the non-local correlation functions with interaction dependent oscillation momenta. We also exactly evaluate local correlations and the generalized chemical potentials within GGE.

Finite-temperature correlations in the Lieb-Liniger one-dimensional Bose gas

Miłosz Panfil, Jean-Sébastien Caux

We address the problem of calculating finite-temperature response functions of an experimentally relevant low-dimensional, strongly correlated system: the integrable one-dimensional Bose gas with a repulsive $\ensuremath{\delta}$-function interaction (the Lieb-Liniger model). Focusing on the dynamical density-density function, we present a Bethe ansatz-based method allowing for its accurate evaluation in finite but large systems, over broad ranges of momenta, frequencies, temperatures, and interaction parameters which are difficult to access using other methods. This allows us to quantify the reshaping of the zero-temperature critical behavior by thermal fluctuations, in experimentally accessible regimes.

Equilibration and Generalized GGE in the Lieb Liniger gas

Garry Goldstein, Natan Andrei

We study the nonequilibrium properties of the one dimensional Lieb Liniger model in the finite repulsion regime. Introducing a new version of the Yudson representation applicable to finite size systems and appropriately taking the infinite volume limit we are able to study equilibration of the Lieb Liniger gas in the thermodynamic limit. We provide a formalism to compute various correlation functions for highly non equilibrium initial states. We are able to find explicit analytic expressions for the long time limit of the expectation of the density, density density and related correlation functions. We show that the gas equilibriates to a diagonal ensemble which we show is equivalent to a generalized version of the GGE for sufficiently simple correlation functions, which in particular include density correlations.

Non-analytic finite-size corrections in the one-dimensional Bose gas and Heisenberg chain

Ferenc Woynarovich, Hans-Peter Eckle, Trong Tuong Truong

The energy spectra of the one-dimensional Bose gas and Heisenberg chain in an external field (chemical potential in the case of the Bose gas and magnetic field in the case of the Heisenberg chain) are calculated. It is found that, at general values of the external field, the spectra are not of the form expected on the basis of conformal invariance. The conformal structure can be recovered only if some extra conditions are imposed on the size of the system and the external field. It is argued that these additional conditions must be satisfied when taking the continuum limit in order to arrive at a conformally invariant theory.

One-particle dynamical correlations in the one-dimensional Bose gas

Jean-Sébastien Caux, Pasquale Calabrese, Nikita A Slavnov

The momentum- and frequency-dependent one-body correlation function of the one-dimensional interacting Bose gas (Lieb–Liniger model) in the repulsive regime is studied using the Algebraic Bethe Ansatz and numerics. We first provide a determinant representation for the field form factor which is well adapted to numerical evaluation. The correlation function is then reconstructed to high accuracy for systems with finite but large numbers of particles, for a wide range of values of the interaction parameter. Our results are extensively discussed, in particular their specialization to the static case.
