Abstract

We present some deterministic schemes to construct universal quantum gates, that is, controlled- not, three-qubit Toffoli, and Fredkin gates, between flying photon qubits and stationary electron-spin qubits assisted by quantum dots inside double-sided optical microcavities. The control qubit of our gates is encoded on the polarization of the moving single photon and the target qubits are encoded on the confined electron spins in quantum dots inside optical microcavities. Our schemes for these universal quantum gates on a hybrid system have some advantages. First, all the gates are accomplished with a success probability of 100$%$ in principle. Second, our schemes require no additional qubits. Third, the control qubits of the gates are easily manipulated and the target qubits are perfect for storage and processing. Fourth, the gates do not require that the transmission for the uncoupled cavity is balanceable with the reflectance for the coupled cavity, in order to get a high fidelity. Fifth, the devices for the three universal gates work in both the weak coupling and the strong coupling regimes, and they are feasible in experiment.

Universal quantum gates on electron-spin qubits with quantum dots inside single-side optical microcavities

Hai‐Rui Wei, Fu‐Guo Deng

We present some compact quantum circuits for a deterministic quantum computing on electron-spin qubits assisted by quantum dots inside single-side optical microcavities, including the CNOT, Toffoli, and Fredkin gates. They are constructed by exploiting the giant optical Faraday rotation induced by a single-electron spin in a quantum dot inside a single-side optical microcavity as a result of cavity quantum electrodynamics. Our universal quantum gates have some advantages. First, all the gates are accomplished with a success probability of 100% in principle. Second, our schemes require no additional electron-spin qubits and they are achieved by some input-output processes of a single photon. Third, our circuits for these gates are simple and economic. Moreover, our devices for these gates work in both the weak coupling and the strong coupling regimes, and they are feasible in experiment.

Universal quantum gates for hybrid system assisted by atomic ensembles embedded in double-sided optical cavities

A‐Peng Liu, Liu‐Yong Cheng, Qi Guo +2 more

We propose deterministic schemes for controlled-NOT (CNOT), Toffoli, and Fredkin gates between flying photon qubits and the collective spin wave (magnon) of an atomic ensemble inside double-sided optical microcavities. All the gates can be accomplished with 100% success probability in principle and no additional qubit is required. Atomic ensemble is employed so that light-matter coupling is remarkably improved by collective enhancement. We qualified the performance of the gates and the results show that they can be faithfully constituted with current experimental techniques.

Universal hybrid hyper-controlled quantum gates assisted by quantum dots in optical double-sided microcavities

Tie-Jun Wang, Yong Zhang, Chuan Xi Wang

Exploiting the giant optical circular birefringence induced by the double-sided quantum-dot–cavity system, we construct a deterministic hybrid hyper-controlled-not (hyper-CNOT) gate, in which the spatial-mode and polarization states of a photon act as the two control qubits, whereas two stationary electron spins in quantum dots confined inside the optical microcavities serve as the two target qubits. In our scheme, the control qubits are easily manipulated with simple optical elements and the target qubits are suitable for storage and processing use. With our hybrid hyper-CNOT gates, we design a high-capacity direct transmission quantum communication network which requires neither the establishment of entanglement between remote locations nor the use of long-lived quantum memories. We discuss the feasibility and efficiency of our hybrid hyper-CNOT gate, concluding that it is feasible with current technology.

Hybrid quantum gates between flying photon and diamond nitrogen-vacancy centers assisted by optical microcavities

Hai‐Rui Wei, Gui Lu Long

Hybrid quantum gates hold great promise for quantum information processing since they preserve the advantages of different quantum systems. Here we present compact quantum circuits to deterministically implement controlled-NOT, Toffoli, and Fredkin gates between a flying photon qubit and diamond nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers assisted by microcavities. The target qubits of these universal quantum gates are encoded on the spins of the electrons associated with the diamond NV centers and they have long coherence time for storing information, and the control qubit is encoded on the polarizations of the flying photon and can be easily manipulated. Our quantum circuits are compact, economic, and simple. Moreover, they do not require additional qubits. The complexity of our schemes for universal three-qubit gates is much reduced, compared to the synthesis with two-qubit entangling gates. These schemes have high fidelities and efficiencies, and they are feasible in experiment.

High‐Fidelity Universal Quantum Controlled Gates on Electron‐Spin Qubits in Quantum Dots Inside Single‐Sided Optical Microcavities

Cong Cao, Yu‐Hong Han, Li Zhang +3 more

Abstract Semiconductor quantum‐dot (QD) spins hold great promise in quantum information science and technology. The implementation of high‐fidelity quantum gates on QD‐spin qubits is of great importance. Here, two schemes are presented to implement two universal quantum controlled gates, that is, the two‐qubit controlled‐not gate and the three‐qubit Toffoli gate, on stationary electron‐spin qubits in QDs inside single‐sided optical microcavities, based on the cavity‐assisted photon scattering under the balance condition. Compared with the previous schemes based on the ideal giant circular birefringence, the present schemes use the balance condition of the single‐sided QD‐cavity system, which can be achieved in both the weak‐ and strong‐coupling regimes of cavity quantum electrodynamics. Under the balance condition, the noise caused by the unbalanced reflectance between the coupled and uncoupled QD‐cavity systems can be efficiently depressed, so that the fidelity of each quantum gate operation can be increased to unity in principle. The schemes exhibit the possibility of realizing high‐fidelity and scalable quantum computing with single QD spins and single photons using the feasible and robust light–matter quantum interface. These high‐fidelity quantum controlled gates can lead to more efficient construction of quantum circuits for quantum computing, and provide a convenient avenue for quantum networking.

Universal photonic three-qubit quantum gates with two degrees of freedom assisted by charged quantum dots inside single-sided optical microcavities

Bo-Yang Xia, Cong Cao, Yu‐Hong Han +1 more

Abstract Although universal quantum computation can be realized with two-qubit controlled-not (CNOT) gates and single-qubit rotations, it would be convenient to have resource-efficient and robust multiqubit quantum gates in practical quantum information processing. Here we present two new schemes to determinately implement three-qubit Toffoli gate and Fredkin gate on photon systems with two degrees of freedom (DOFs), assisted by charged quantum dots (QDs) inside single-sided optical microcavities. In contrast to the traditional Toffoli and Fredkin gates operating in photonic one DOF, the gates presented here with two DOFs can reduce the photon numbers required to implement the gate operations. Compared with the ones synthesized by CNOT and single-qubit gates, the present gates can reduce the complexity in experiment. Our schemes exploit the robust giant circular birefringence induced by a single-electron spin in a QD-cavity system, which do not require photon indistinguishability or photon interference as demanded by other schemes using linear optics. Moreover, additional ancillary photons are not required in the schemes. We discuss the feasibility of our schemes, concluding that they can be realized with current or near-future technologies.
