Abstract

By using the concept of the quantum discord (QD), we study the spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain with next-nearest-neighbor interaction. Due to the $SU(2)$ symmetry and $Z_{2}$ symmetry in this system, we obtain the analytical result of the QD and its geometric measure (GMQD), which is determined by the two-site correlators. For the 4-site and 6-site cases, the connection between GMQD (QD) and the eigenenergies was revealed. From the analytical and numerical results, we find GMQD (QD) is an effective tool in detecting the both the first-order and the infinite-order quantum-phase-transition points for the finite-size systems. Moreover, by using the entanglement excitation energy and a universal frustration measure we consider the frustration properties of the system and find a nonlinear dependence of the GMQD on the frustration.

Quantum Correlations in Spin Chains at Finite Temperatures and Quantum Phase Transitions

T. Werlang, Christian Trippe, G A P Ribeiro +1 more

We compute the quantum correlation [quantum discord (QD)] and the entanglement (EOF) between nearest-neighbor qubits (spin-1/2) in an infinite chain described by the Heisenberg model (XXZ Hamiltonian) at finite temperatures. The chain is in the thermodynamic limit and thermalized with a reservoir at temperature T (canonical ensemble). We show that QD, in contrast to EOF and other thermodynamic quantities, spotlight the critical points associated with quantum phase transitions (QPT) for this model even at finite T. This remarkable property of QD may have important implications for experimental characterization of QPTs when one is unable to reach temperatures below which a QPT can be seen.

Quantum discord in matrix product systems

Zhao‐Yu Sun, Liang Li, K.L. Yao +5 more

We consider a class of quantum systems with spin-flip symmetry and derive the quantum correlation measured by the quantum discord (QD). As an illustration, we investigate the QD in a three-body interaction model and an XYZ interaction model, whose ground states can be expressed as matrix product states, and the QD is exactly soluble. We show that the QD behaves differently than the quantum entanglement (QE) in many ways; for example, they may show opposite monotonicity and completely different finite-size effects. Furthermore, we compare the capability of the QD and the QE to detect quantum phase transitions (QPTs) and find that the QD is more reliable than the QE for signaling QPTs in these models: In the three-body interaction model, the QE is singular at the quantum critical point, however, it exhibits an additional singularity in the noncritical region, while the analyticity of the QD can be used to identify the quantum critical point perfectly; and in the XYZ interaction model, the QE vanishes in the thermodynamic limit, thus losing its ability to detect QPTs, while the QD still functions very well.

Quantum Correlations in Heisenberg XY Chain

Yinyan Zhu, Yong Zhang

Quantum correlations measured by quantum discord (QD), measurement-induced distance (MID), and geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD) in two-qubit Heisenberg XY spin chain are investigated. The effects of DM interaction and anisotropic on the three correlations are considered. Characteristics of various correlation measures for the two-qubit states are compared. The increasing D z increases QD, MID and GMQD monotonously while the increasing anisotropy both increases and decreases QD and GMQD. The three quantum correlations are always existent at very high temperature. MID is always larger than QD, but there is no definite ordering between QD and GMQD.

Quantum phases of the 1D anisotropic spin-1/2 frustrated ferromagnetic model: view point of quantum correlations

F. Khastehdel Fumani, Mostafa Motamedifar, S. Mahdavifar

Abstract We have studied the ground state phases of the one-dimensional (1D) spin-1/2 anisotropic frustrated ferromagnetic model, using the numerical Lanczos method. We have focused on the quantum correlations as the concurrence and the quantum discord (QD) between the nearest neighbor (NN) and the next-nearest neighbor (NNN) spins. Numerical results show that the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid (TLL), the even-parity dimer, and the vector chiral phases can be distinguished from each other using the long-distance quantum correlations. Specially, the critical points are explicitly detected in the first derivative of the concurrence between the nearest neighbor spins with respect to the frustration parameter.

Pairwise correlations via quantum discord and its geometric measure in a four-qubit spin chain

Abdel‐Baset A. Mohamed

The dynamic of pairwise correlations, including quantum entanglement (QE) and discord (QD) with geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD), are shown in the four-qubit Heisenberg XX spin chain. The results show that the effect of the entanglement degree of the initial state on the pairwise correlations is stronger for alternate qubits than it is for nearest-neighbor qubits. This parameter results in sudden death for QE, but it cannot do so for QD and GMQD. With different values for this entanglement parameter of the initial state, QD and GMQD differ and are sensitive for any change in this parameter. It is found that GMQD is more robust than both QD and QE to describe correlations with nonzero values, which offers a valuable resource for quantum computation.
