Abstract

We study the two-qubit Rabi model in the most general case where the qubits are different from each other. The spectrum of the system in the ultrastrong-coupling regime is shown to converge to two forced oscillator chains by perturbation theory. An even and odd decomposition of the Hilbert space allows us to calculate the spectra in any given parameter regime; the cases studied confirm our perturbation theory prediction in the ultrastrong-coupling regime and point to crossings in the spectra within each parity subspace in the moderate-coupling regime. The normal modes of the system are calculated by two different methods, the first a linear algebra approach via the parity bases that delivers a four-term recurrence relation for the amplitudes of the proper states and, the second, via Bargmann representation for the field that delivers five-term recurrence relations. Finally, we show some examples of the time evolution of the mean photon number, population inversion, von Neuman entropy and Wootters concurrence under the two-qubit quantum Rabi Hamiltonian by taking advantage of the parity decomposition.

The two-qubit quantum Rabi model: inhomogeneous coupling

Lijun Mao, Sainan Huai, Yunbo Zhang

We revisit the analytic solution of the two-qubit quantum Rabi model with inhomogeneous coupling and transition frequencies using a displaced oscillator basis. This approach enables us to apply the same truncation rules and techniques adopted in the Rabi model to the two qubits system. The derived analytical spectra match perfectly with the numerical solutions in the parameter regime where the qubits’ transition frequencies are far off-resonance with the field frequency and the interaction strengths reach the ultrastrong coupling regime. We further explore the dynamical behavior of the two qubits as well as the evolution of entanglement. The analytical methods provide unexpectedly accurate results in describing the dynamics of the two qubits in the present experimentally accessible coupling regime. The time evolutions of the probability for the qubits show that the collapse-revival phenomena emerge, survive and finally disappear when one coupling strength increases from weak to strong coupling regimes and the other coupling strength is well into the ultrastrong coupling regime. The inhomogeneous coupling system exhibits new dynamics, which are different from the homogeneous coupling case.

N-photon solutions to the two-qubit quantum Rabi model

Qiang Lin, Junlong Tian, Pinghua Tang +1 more

We studied the two-qubit quantum Rabi model and found its dark state solutions with at most N photons. One peculiar case presents when $N=3$, which has constant eigenenergy in the whole coupling regime and leads to level crossings within the same parity subspace. We also discovered asymptotic solutions with at most $N=2i+3$ $(i=1,2,3,\dots)$ photons, and constant eigenenergy $N\hbar ω$ when coupling $g$ becomes much larger than photon frequency $ω$. Although generally all photon number states are involved in the two-qubit quantum Rabi model, such $N$-photon solutions exist and may have applications in quantum information processing with ultrastrong couplings.

Ground state of a resonant two-qubit cavity system in the ultrastrong-coupling regime

Kelvin M. C. Lee, C. K. Law

We examine a generalized Rabi model formed by two identical qubits interacting with a common oscillator mode. In the near-resonance configuration where the oscillator frequency is close to the transition frequency of the qubit, we determine the ground state of the model approximately by using a variational method and a transformation method. Both methods are shown to approximate the ground state accurately for a range of coupling strengths in the ultrastrong-coupling regime. In addition, the accuracy of the approximation can be further improved by using perturbation theory. We also characterize the ground-state entanglement between the two qubits by calculating the negativity.

Qubit-oscillator system: An analytical treatment of the ultrastrong coupling regime

Johannes Hausinger, Milena Grifoni

We examine a two-level system coupled to a quantum oscillator, typically representing experiments in cavity and circuit quantum electrodynamics. We show how such a system can be treated analytically in the ultrastrong coupling limit, where the ratio $g/\ensuremath{\Omega}$ between coupling strength and oscillator frequency approaches unity and goes beyond. In this regime the Jaynes-Cummings model is known to fail because counter-rotating terms have to be taken into account. By using Van Vleck perturbation theory to higher orders in the qubit tunneling matrix element $\ensuremath{\Delta}$ we are able to enlarge the regime of applicability of existing analytical treatments, including, in particular, also the finite-bias case. We present a detailed discussion on the energy spectrum of the system and on the dynamics of the qubit for an oscillator at low temperature. We consider the coupling strength $g$ to all orders, and the validity of our approach is even enhanced in the ultrastrong coupling regime. Looking at the Fourier spectrum of the population difference, we find that many frequencies contribute to the dynamics. They are gathered into groups whose spacing depends on the qubit-oscillator detuning. Furthermore, the dynamics is not governed anymore by a vacuum Rabi splitting which scales linearly with $g$, but by a nontrivial dressing of the tunneling matrix element, which can be used to suppress specific frequencies through a variation of the coupling.

Solvability of the two-photon Rabi Hamiltonian

Igor Travěnec

The spectrum of the two-photon Rabi Hamiltonian is found, proceeding in full analogy with the solution of the standard (one-photon) Rabi Hamiltonian, published by D. Braak [Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 100401 (2011)]. The Hamiltonian is rewritten as a set of two differential equations. Symmetries that get hidden after further treatment are found. One can plainly see how the Hilbert space splits into four disjunct subspaces, categorized by four values of the symmetry parameter $c=\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1,\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}i$. There were only two values, $\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1$, for the standard Rabi model. The values of $c$ are in fact the eigenvalues of the respective parity operators. Four analytic functions are introduced by a recurrence scheme for the coefficients of their series expansion. All their roots yield the complete spectrum of the Hamiltonian. Eigenstates in Bargmann space can also be found.

Exceptional spectra of the two-qubit quantum Rabi model

Zhanyuan Yan, Bingbing Xu, Yan, Zehui

In this report, we have studied exceptional spectra of the two-qubit quantum Rabi model in two situations. Firstly, an exceptional spectra is achieved in resonant condition, in which the frequencies of two qubit and photon field satisfy resonant relation. With transformed rotating-wave approximation (TRWA) method, the Rabi model can be mapped into the solvable formation in qubit-photon Fock states space. Based on the quantum supperconducting circuits experiment setup, the best value range of the system parameters are discussed. In the resonant station working window, the energy spectrums are calculated. Secondly, a special quasi-exact solution of two qubits Rabi model in reservoir is achieved. The algebraic structure of Hamiltonian is analyzed in the photon number space, a closed quasi-exact eigenstates space is found, and the quasi-exact solution can be clearly found from the algebraic structure of Hamiltonian. The results could be used to test quantum Rabi model.
