Abstract

Quantum simulation of a Hamiltonian H requires unitary operator decomposition (UOD) of its evolution operator, ($U=exp(-i H t)$) in terms of experimentally preferable unitaries. Here, using Genetic Algorithm optimization, we numerically evaluate the most generic UOD for the Hamiltonian, DM interaction in the presence of Heisenberg XY interaction, $H_{DH}$. Using these decompositions, we studied the entanglement dynamics of Bell state in the Hamiltonian $H_{DH}$ and verified the entanglement preservation procedure by Hou et al. [Annals of Physics 327, 292 (2012)].

Universal quantum computation and simulation using any entangling Hamiltonian and local unitaries

What interactions are sufficient to simulate arbitrary quantum dynamics in a composite quantum system? We provide an efficient algorithm to simulate any desired two-body Hamiltonian evolution using any fixed two-body entangling n-qubit Hamiltonian and local unitary operations. It follows that universal quantum computation can be performed using any entangling interaction and local unitary operations.

ENTANGLEMENT IN A 3-SPIN HEISENBERG-XY CHAIN WITH NEAREST-NEIGHBOR INTERACTIONS, SIMULATED IN AN NMR QUANTUM SIMULATOR

‎K‎. ‎R‎. ‎K‎. ‎Rao, Anil Kumar

The evolution of entanglement in a 3-spin chain with nearest-neighbor Heisenberg-XY interactions for different initial states is investigated here. In an NMR experimental implementation, we generate multipartite entangled states starting from initial separable pseudo-pure states by simulating nearest-neighbor XY interactions in a 3-spin linear chain of nuclear spin qubits. For simulating XY interactions, we follow algebraic method of Zhang et al. [Phys. Rev. A72 (2005) 012331]. Bell state between end qubits has been generated by using only the unitary evolution of the XY Hamiltonian. For generating W-state and GHZ-state a single qubit rotation is applied on second and all the three qubits, respectively after the unitary evolution of the XY Hamiltonian.

Decoherence from spin environment: Role of the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction

W. W. Cheng, Jun‐Ming Liu

We study the time evolution of decoherence factor of two spin qubits and qutrits coupled to an $XY$ spin chain with Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya (DM) interaction environment. The dynamical process of the decoherence is numerically and analytically investigated. We find that the DM interaction can enhance slightly the decay of the decoherence factor in the weak-coupling region. However, in the strong-coupling region, the decoherence factor is very sensitive to the DM interaction.

DYNAMICS OF ENTANGLEMENT IN HEISENBERG CHAINS WITH ASYMMETRIC DZYALOSHINSKII–MORIYA INTERACTIONS

Yizheng Wu, Jie Ren, Xuefan Jiang

Dynamics of the nearest-neighbor concurrence and the block–block entanglement in closed Heisenberg chains with Dzyaloshinskii–Moriya (DM) interactions are simulated numerically. It is found that the nearest-neighbor concurrence and the block–block entanglement can be generated dynamically from an initial antiferromagnetic (AF) state, and DM interactions will enhance the amplitude of oscillation of concurrence and that of block–block entanglement. Furthermore, dynamics of block–block entanglement SL in the chain with even number spins is coincident with the dynamics of SN - L for D = 0. However, with the consideration of DM interactions, the evolution of SL will not be consistent with that of SN - L for the chain with odd number spins. In a given time interval, the maximal value of the generated nearest-neighbor concurrence [Formula: see text] will first decrease with the increase of chain's length, then oscillate with the increase of N. The maximal value and the minimal value of the oscillation becomes stable for a large N, and [Formula: see text] of the chain with odd spins is larger than that of the chain with even spins for a large N. The influence of DM interaction on the value of [Formula: see text] becomes unobvious with the increase of chain's length.

Quantum simulation using fidelity-profile optimization

Manu Veliparambil Subrahmanian, Anil Kumar

Experimental quantum simulation of a Hamiltonian $H$ requires unitary operator decomposition (UOD) of its evolution unitary $U=\text{exp}(\ensuremath{-}iHt)$ in terms of native unitary operators of the experimental system. Here, using a genetic algorithm, we numerically evaluate the most generic UOD (valid over a continuous range of Hamiltonian parameters) of the unitary operator $U,$ termed fidelity-profile optimization. The optimization is obtained by systematically evaluating the functional dependence of experimental unitary operators (such as single-qubit rotations and time-evolution unitaries of the system interactions) to the Hamiltonian ($H$) parameters. Using this technique, we have solved the experimental unitary decomposition of a controlled-phase gate (for any phase value), the evolution unitary of the Heisenberg XY interaction, and simulation of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction in the presence of the Heisenberg XY interaction. Using these decompositions, we studied the entanglement dynamics of a Bell state in the DM interaction and experimentally verified the entanglement preservation procedure of Hou et al. [Ann. Phys. (N.Y.) 327, 292 (2012)] in a nuclear magnetic resonance quantum information processor.
