Abstract

We study the coherent state and two-mode squeezed state in the q-deformed Pegg-Barnett(PB) formalism. We show that when the truncation of the Fock space S is large enough, the phase properties of the q-deformed PB coherent state approach that of the undeformed PB coherent state. We also investigate the entanglement properties of the two-mode squeezed states in both the q-deformed and undeformed PB Fock space with the real squeezing parameter r. We see that if S is sufficiently large, the conventional two-mode squeezed states can be approximated with the PB (deformed and undeformed) states for arbitrary r. However, the value of S required increases more rapidly with the q-deformed PB states than the PB states as a function of r.

Phase-coherent states and their squeezing properties

Le‐Man Kuang, Xin Chen

Phase-coherent states associated with the Pegg-Barnett (PB) phase operator formalism are introduced in terms of the algebraic properties of the PB phase theory. The phase-coherent-state representation of the PB phase states and the PB phase operators is obtained. Squeezing properties of these coherent states with respect to the phase quadrature operators are studied. The number-phase squeezing and number-phase uncertainty relations are also investigated in detail for a two-state system. Some new number-phase minimum uncertainty states are found.

Properties of two-mode squeezed number states

Alexei Vladimirovich Chizhov, B. K. Murzakhmetov

Photon statistics and phase properties of two-mode squeezed number states are studied. It is shown that photon number distribution and Pegg-Barnett phase distribution for such states have similar (N + 1)-peak structure for nonzero value of the difference in the number of photons between modes. Exact analytical formulas for phase distributions based on different phase approaches are derived. The Pegg-Barnett phase distribution and the phase quasiprobability distribution associated with the Wigner function are close to each other, while the phase quasiprobability distribution associated with the Q function carries less phase information.

Phase Probability Distributions of Pair q-Coherent States

Zhongqing Wang, Chang‐Kui Duan

Based on our previous work, the phase state and phase operator introduced by Pegg and Barnett are generalized to two-mode q-deformed circumstances. With the aid of numerical method, the phase probability distributions of q-deformed pair coherent state are investigated. It is shown that these probability distributions of the state are regulated by the parameters of phase, the q-number and the magnitude of |ξ|. Therefore, the q-deformed pair coherent state exhibits different quantum interference properties.

Phase distribution of nonlinear coherent states

Barnana Roy, P Roy

Using the Pegg-Barnett formalism we study phase properties of nonlinear coherent states. We compute the Pegg-Barnett phase probability distribution of nonlinear coherent states and compare it with phase distributions associated with the Q function and the Wigner function. Squeezing properties of nonlinear coherent states with respect to the number and the phase operator are also studied.

Coherent states in a finite-dimensional basis: Their phase properties and relationship to coherent states of light

Vladimír Bužek, A. D. Wilson‐Gordon, P. L. Knight +1 more

The Pegg-Barnett phase-operator formalism utilizes a finite basis set to represent operators of the harmonic oscillator; this enables the phase to be represented by a Hermitian operator, but rests on taking the dimensionality of the basis set to infinity for observable quantities. Simultaneously, in their approach Pegg and Barnett consider quantum states of a harmonic oscillator which are normalized in the Fock space, i.e., the dimensionality of the basis set in which the states of the harmonic oscillator are defined is supposed to be infinite, while the phase operator is defined in the finite-dimensional basis set. In this paper we address the problem of a consistent definition of a coherent state within a finite state basis. We employ displacement operators to define such coherent states and numerically evaluate observables as a function of the size of the basis set. We investigate phase properties of these coherent states. We find that if the dimensionality of the state space is much larger than the mean occupation number of the coherent states, then the results obtained in the finite-dimensional basis are applicable in the case of a ordinary quantum-mechanical harmonic oscillator. These coherent states are minimum uncertainty states with respect to quadrature operators (i.e., the position and momentum operators) and do not exhibit quadrature squeezing. A weakly excited (compared with the dimensionality of the state space) coherent state in finite-dimensional basis is not strictly speaking a minimum uncertainty state with respect to the number and phase operators. We give definitions of amplitude and phase squeezing and show that weakly excited coherent states can be amplitude squeezed. In the high-intensity limit (again compared with the dimensionality of the state space) these states exhibit phase squeezing.

Phase Properties of Nonlinear Coherent States

Song Tong-Qiang, Yuejin Zhu

Using the Pegg–Barnett formalism we study the phase probability distributions and the squeezing effects of measured phase operators in the nonlinear coherent states introduced by R.L. de Matos Filho and W. Vogel to describe the center-of mass motion of a trapped ion and the q-coherent states. Moreover, we have obtained the completeness relation of nonlinear coherent states and proved that the q-Fock state introduced in many papers is, in fact, the usual Fock state.
