Entanglement creation in low-energy scattering

Ricardo Weder

We study the entanglement creation in the low-energy scattering of two particles in three dimensions, for a general class of interaction potentials that are not required to be spherically symmetric. The incoming asymptotic state, before the collision, is a product of two normalized Gaussian states. After the scattering, the particles are entangled. We take as a measure of the entanglement the purity of one of them. We provide a rigorous explicit computation, with error bound, of the leading order of the purity at low energy. The entanglement depends strongly on the difference of the masses. It takes its minimum when the masses are equal, and it increases rapidly with the difference of the masses. It is quite remarkable that the anisotropy of the potential gives no contribution to the leading order of the purity, in spite of the fact that entanglement is a second-order effect.

Entanglement dynamics of electron-electron scattering in low-dimensional semiconductor systems

Fabrizio Buscemi, Paolo Bordone, Andrea Bertoni

We perform the quantitative evaluation of the entanglement dynamics in scattering events between two indistinguishable electrons interacting via the Coulomb potential in one- and two-dimensional semiconductor nanostructures. We apply a criterion based on the von Neumann entropy and the Schmidt decomposition of the global state vector suitable for systems of identical particles. From the time-dependent numerical solution of the two-particle wave function of the scattering carriers we compute their entanglement evolution for different spin configurations: two electrons with the same spin, with different spin, and singlet and triplet spin states. The procedure allows us to evaluate the mechanisms that govern entanglement creation and their connection with the characteristic physical parameters and initial conditions of the system. The cases in which the evolution of entanglement is similar to the one obtained for distinguishable particles are discussed.

Universal Scaling Properties of Cold Atom Scattering Dynamics in Confined Low Dimensional Geometries

Jeff Maki, Fei Zhou

Intermediate energy scale physics plays a very important role in non-equilibrium dynamics of quasi-low dimensional cold atom systems. In this article we obtain the universal scaling relations for the generalized reflection coefficient, i.e., the fraction of atoms scattered out of the initial state, at intermediate energies scales. These intermediate energies are larger than the trap frequency, but necessarily smaller than the effective range of the inter-atomic potential. For harmonically confined one and two dimensional geometries, whenever the energy of the system is commensurate with a transverse energy level, it is shown that the system becomes non-interacting. For energies close to a transverse energy level, the reflection coefficient and scattering dynamics take on universal scaling forms, only depending on the difference between the energy of the particles and the transverse energy level. In this article, the universal power law behaviors of these scattering observables are obtained.
