Abstract

We study a system consisting of a quantum kicked rotor with an additional degree of freedom. We show analytically and numerically that this model is characterized by its quantum resonances with ballistic spreading and by the entanglement between the internal and momentum degrees of freedom. We conclude that the model shows certain interesting similarities with the standard quantum walk on the line.

Resonant Quantum Kicked Rotor as A Continuous-Time Quantum Walk

Michele Delvecchio, Francesco Petiziol, Sandro Wimberger

We analytically investigate the analogy between a standard continuous-time quantum walk in one dimension and the evolution of the quantum kicked rotor at quantum resonance conditions. We verify that the obtained probability distributions are equal for a suitable choice of the kick strength of the rotor. We further discuss how to engineer the evolution of the walk for dynamically preparing experimentally relevant states. These states are important for future applications of the atom-optics kicked rotor for the realization of ratchets and quantum search.

Sub-ballistic behavior in quantum systems with Lévy noise

A. Romanelli, R. Siri, Victor Micenmacher

We investigate the quantum walk and the quantum kicked rotor in resonance subjected to noise with a Lévy waiting time distribution. We find that both systems have a sub-ballistic wave function spreading as shown by a power-law tail of the standard deviation.

Generalized Quantum Random Walk in Momentum Space

A. Romanelli, A. Auyuanet, R. Siri +2 more

We introduce a discrete-time quantum walk on a one-dimensional momentum space including both discrete jumps and continuous drift. Its time evolution has two diferent stages. Initially a Markovian diffusion develops during a characteristic time interval, after which dynamical localization sets in, as in the well known Quantum Kicked Rotor system. For some exceptional values of the model's parameter the system exhibits resonant behavior and the system model behaves as the standard discrete time quantum walker on the line.

Dynamics of wavepackets and entanglement in many-body kicked rotors under quantum resonance

Yangshuo Zhou, Jiao Wang

We investigate a many-body interacting system of quantum kicked rotors, where each rotor resides in its respective quantum resonance. Rich many-body dynamics are found to emerge from the interplay between the principal and secondary resonances. In particular, for both the wavepacket and bipartite entanglement entropy, we analytically demonstrate three distinct dynamical regimes -- quadratic spreading (growth), period-2 oscillation, and their hybrid -- governed by the respective symmetries of the relevant potentials. Based on these symmetries, the connection between the wavepacket and the entanglement dynamics is illustrated. Other related issues are also discussed, including higher-order resonance effects, the robustness of the predicted dynamical behaviors, extension to many-body kicked tops, and relevance to experimental studies.

Emergence of Classical Random Walk from Non-Hermitian Effects in Quantum Kicked Rotor

Wenhua Song, Jiaming Zhang, Lihao Hua +2 more

We investigate the quantum random walk in momentum space of a spinor kicked rotor with a non-Hermitian kicking potential. We find that the variance in momentum distributions transitions from quadratic to linear growth over time for the non-Hermitian case. Correspondingly, the momentum distributions are in the shape of Gaussian wavepackets, providing clear evidence of a classical random walk induced by the non-Hermitian-driven potential. Remarkably, the rate of the linear growth of the variance diverges as the non-Hermitian parameter approaches zero. In the Hermitian case, deviations from the quantum resonance condition dramatically suppress the quadratic growth of the variance, leading to dynamical localization of the quantum walk. Under such quantum non-resonance conditions, the classical random walk is significantly reduced by the non-Hermitian-driven potential. Interestingly, non-Hermiticity enhances quantum entanglement between internal degrees of freedom, while deviations from the quantum resonance condition reduce it. Possible applications of our findings are discussed.

Quantum Resonances of the Kicked Rotor and the SU(q) Group

V. V. Sokolov, O. V. Zhirov, Daniel Alonso +1 more

The quantum kicked rotor map is embedded into a continuous unitary transformation generated by a time-independent quasi Hamiltonian. In some vicinity of a quantum resonance of order q, we relate the problem to the regular motion along a circle in a (q(2)-1) component inhomogeneous "magnetic" field of a quantum particle with q intrinsic degrees of freedom described by the SU(q) group. This motion is in parallel with the classical phase oscillations near a nonlinear resonance.
