Comparison of non-Markovianity criteria in a qubit system under random external fields

Abstract

We give the map representing the evolution of a qubit under the action of non-dissipative random external fields. From this map we construct the corresponding master equation that in turn allows us to phenomenologically introduce population damping of the qubit system. We then compare, in this system, the time-regions when non-Markovianity is present on the basis of different criteria both for the non-dissipative and dissipative case. We show that the adopted criteria agree both in the non-dissipative case and in the presence of population damping.

Non-Markovian dissipative dynamics of two coupled qubits in independent reservoirs: Comparison between exact solutions and master-equation approaches

Elena Ferraro, M. Scala, Rosanna Migliore +1 more

The reduced dynamics of two interacting qubits coupled to two independent bosonic baths is investigated. The one-excitation dynamics is derived and compared with that based on the resolution of appropriate non-Markovian master equations. The Nakajima-Zwanzig and the time-convolutionless projection operator techniques are exploited to provide a description of the non-Markovian features of the dynamics of the two-qubit system. The validity of such approximate methods and their range of validity in correspondence to different choices of the parameters describing the system are brought to light.

The population and decay evolution of a qubit under the time-convolutionless master equation

Jiang Huang, Mao-Fa Fang, Xiang Liu

We consider the population and decay of a qubit under the electromagnetic environment. Employing the timeconvolutionless master equation, we investigate the Markovian and non-Markovian behaviour of the corresponding perturbation expansion. The Jaynes-Cummings model on resonance is investigated. Some figures clearly show the different evolution behaviours. The reasons are interpreted in the paper.

Dynamical signatures of non-Markovianity in a dissipative-driven qubit

Graziano Amati

We investigate signatures of non-Markovianity in the dynamics of a periodically driven qubit coupled to a dissipative bosonic environment. We propagate the dynamics of the reduced density matrix of the qubit by integrating the numerically exact hierarchical equations of motion. Non-Markovian features are quantified by comparing on an equal footing the predictions from diverse and complementary approaches to quantum dissipation. In particular, we analyze the distinguishability of quantum states, the decay of the volume accessible to the qubit on the Hilbert space, the negativity of the canonical rates in the generalized Lindblad equation, and the relaxation of the memory kernels in the Nakajima-Zwanzig generalized quantum master equation. We study the effects of controlled driving on the coherent dynamics of the system. We show that a suitable external field can offset the ergodic relaxation of time-correlation functions, increase distinguishability over time, and strengthen non-Markovian effects witnessed by the canonical dissipation channels. We furthermore observe the phenomenon of eternal non-Markovianity for sufficiently small system-bath coupling and we discuss how this can be enhanced by modulating the frequency of the external drive. This work provides a broad theoretical analysis of quantum dissipation in the framework of open quantum dynamics and quantum information.

Non-Markovianity in the time evolution of open quantum systems assessed by means of quantum state distance

G. Mouloudakis, I. Stergou, P. Lambropoulos

Abstract We provide a quantitative evaluation of non-Markovianity (NM) for an XX chain of interacting qubits with one end coupled to a reservoir. The NM of several non-Markovian spectral densities is assessed in terms of various quantum state distance (QSD) measures. Our approach is based on the construction of the density matrix of the open chain, without the necessity of a master equation. For the quantification of NM we calculate the dynamics of the QSD measures between the Markovian-damped and various types of non-Markovian-damped cases. Since in the literature several QSD measures, appear in forms that imply trace preserving density matrices, we introduced appropriate modifications so as to render them applicable to the case of decaying traces. The results produce remarkable consistency between the various QSD measures. They also reveal a subtle and potentially useful interplay between qubit–qubit interaction and non-Markovian damping. Our calculations have also uncovered a surprisingly dramatic slowing-down of dissipation by the squared Lorentzian reservoir.

On the validity of non-Markovian master equation approaches for the entanglement dynamics of two-qubit systems

Elena Ferraro, M. Scala, Rosanna Migliore +1 more

In the framework of the dissipative dynamics of coupled qubits interacting with independent reservoirs, a comparison between non-Markovian master equation techniques and an exact solution is presented here. We study various regimes in order to find the limits of validity of the Nakajima–Zwanzig and the time-convolutionless master equations in the description of the entanglement dynamics. A comparison between the performances of the concurrence and the negativity as entanglement measures for the system under study is also presented.

LOCAL APPROACH TO THE NON-MARKOVIAN EVOLUTION OF QUANTUM SYSTEMS

Dariusz Chruściński, Andrzej Kossakowski

We analyze a local approach to the non-Markovian evolution of open quantum systems. It turns out that any dynamical map representing evolution of such a system may be described either by non-local master equation with memory kernel or equivalently by equation which is local in time. The price one pays for the local approach is that the corresponding generator might be highly singular and it keeps the memory about the starting point "t0". This is the very essence of non-Markovianity. We illustrate a local approach by simple examples.
